Barack Obama will do fine after office, you know, the payback portion of the job. There are so many people making far more money than Rooney for less work, I'm hardly going to get upset when the talent gets a win.

I don't see much reason to be glum here. Man U are panicking and making stupid decisions that will have long consequences. I find this one almost incredible in how stupid it is. The more stupid decisions they make, the more expensive it will be for them to buy their way out of their problems.

It's seems the contract is actually the same £250,000 per week he's currently on, but with the addition of Utd's very successful commercial dept working to attract personal sponsorship for Rooney on his behalf. It's the addition of that sponsorship money which is taking the quoted contract figure to £300,000 (which is actually just a guess). It will be costing Utd £250,000 + the cost of the time the commercial dept spends working for Rooney.
