Rooney or Torres - who the better player?

Status
Not open for further replies.
Rooney reminds me of Gerrard in that he's got very few weaknesses and often looks on another level talent wise to everyone else on the pitch.

Torres is by far the better #9, Rooney is the better #10.

If I could pick any two players to form a strike partnership, it'd be those two. Thank god Utd didn't get Torres.

Rooney is all effort.

Torres does it with such ease and elegance.

Oh & Torres has proven himself in 2 top leagues.
[/quote]

That's grossly unfair.

Firstly Rooney is so, so, so much more than "all effort".

Secondly Torres was mainly potential in Spain, which we unlocked. Also when you're playing for one of the worlds greatest clubs, in the toughest league, the 'he's only played in one league' argument means fuck all' - especially when he's won a significant amount of trophies compared to Torres.

For my tuppence worth.

Rooney is a stunted little blue/manc goyt dwarf with attitude problem and generally not as good as Torres.

Its a truly daft question IMHO.

NOBODY would swap them unless their were a jealous man U fan. Ive seen Rooney play some great games but i have never seen him absolutely fucking scream class like Torres did on saturday, Torres is a different league excitement wise.

I also reckon he will get 40 plus goals this year if he stays fit so that cunt Ronaldo can fuck right off n all.

Manc cunts.

Rooney has a stupid chin and does that annoying "shouting face", which has even been used as a positive on adverts.

Torrs is beautiful.

It's a silly comparison really. Torres is a centre forward, Rooney isn't. I'm not quite sure what Rooney is but if you're comparing them as strikers, Torres is by far his superior. The real question should be, 'Who's better Gerrard or Rooney?'

Rooney doesn't play in Gerrard's position either, Rooney and Torres is a much more valid comparison.

Anyway, the answer is Gerrard, I like this game.

Gerrard has played in a variety of positions over the same time period, RM, CM, AM, even CF. He did very well at every position.

Fair enough, but I think Rooney has shown more that he is being played "out of position" in midfield, to accomodate other players, whereas Gerrard hasn't.

Yea, because it made me want to strangle Benitez on the couple of occasions he was played there.

Rooneys ability is being massively sold short in this thread.
There isnt a player in this league id want more than him. Hes an absolutely super player.
But i wouldnt trade Torres for him. Im emotionally bound to Torres, its too easy to say who's better who's best. I love that Torres is a Liverpool player and i love how much he loves us back. EUERY single time i see him run out in our kit i get butterflies. THATS FUCKING FERNANDO TORRES THAT! Id never get that with Rooney, even though hes probably just as good a player.

Off on a slight tangent, do you feel the same about Fabio Capello?

i'd alternate between rooney in dirk's place and gerrard in mid.

Rooney's class. I'd love him at Liverpool, he's one of my favourite non-LFC players to watch, and who plays for makes that all the more puzzling and is a testament to his ability.

Torres is the better striker and better goalscorer, whereas Rooney is a world class second striker. I think he'll get 20 league goals this season if the drunkard plays him up top.

I have a friend who thinks there are 25 better forwards than Rooney in the world.

He's an idiot.

I understand why managers do it, but I just detest watching players without a great left foot, playing on the left, and vica versa. It makes the game uglier. I feel the same way about Babel, but it is worse when it is a great player.

Rooney is an excellent player but has yet to prove he can a) score goals regularly and b) lead a team's front line by himself. Torres has done both ... Rooney may become his 'equal' this year though - he's surely started the season brilliantly.

I don't think he has to prove that, as he's not that kind of player and that's not his best position. Otherwise, agree with your post.

As far as this argument goes, I think the question was answered on the previous page, as in, this is the wrong question to be asking. The question is, Rooney or Gerrard?

every time i read the thread title i get an image of bernard manning doing an impression of a black man.

HAHAHAHAHAHA

This is very similar to the Gerrard v C Ronaldo arguement for me.

The more versatile, jack-of-all-trades, passionate player versus the player who'll outscore him each season, is more skillful and will probably finish higher than him on a poll of the world's best most seasons.

Rooney is a better overall footballer, but Torres is a better striker and is more likely to directly affect a big game as he has that indefinable magic about him that seems to count in the big situations.

Torres for me (and I do consider Rooney an exceptional talent).
