Ronaldo wins the 2016 battle

So two
Questions.
1. Who was better in 2016 in your opinion?
2. Who at this stage is better overall?

I played a random video of Ronaldo to my nephew. He said he was fast, he said he had skill, and he commented that nobody can take the ball from him. His vocabulary isn't at its peak yet, but the tone of his voice implied he'd never seen anyone play like that before. Oh yes, this was during the middle of one of the el classico games on sky's box sets. We went back to that game, and his comment upon watching the new shit Ronaldo was he falls over a lot, he's always complaining a lot. Hahaha such truth.

I agree with Tom Brown, Suarez was better than 'em both in 2016 and is better than them both now as they are showing signs of wear and tear.

I've always preferred Ronaldo as a footballer. I think he could play in any league at any time and be the best player in the world. To add to that, I've often thought Maradonna was better than Messi in the sense he played at a time with much less protection than today's football. Neither statements are meant to criticise Messi in the slightest. He's an insane footballer footballer and I love watching him play, but he's very much a product of his time.

I think Messi is head and shoulders above Ronaldo myself and that the little Argentinian will be looked back upon as perhaps the greatest player of all time.

I haven't seen enough of either of them in La Liga in 2016 to say whether it's fair that Ronaldo get's the pick but he's also been crowned European Champion so I guess that's alright.

Messi for me though every day of the week.

It's hard to reconcile the two parts of your post there.

You say Ronaldo - a noted diver and whinger even by modern standards - could play at any time and yet criticise Messi, who actually has ridden a fair few bad challenges in his time and tends to just get on with things on the pitch, for not having to deal with leg breakers week in, week out.

If anything, it is Ronaldo who is the product of his time/

I'm not that arsed, or interested, because they both play for clubs I dislike.

But it is worth noting that Ronaldo's natural brilliance has been amplified by his own astounding dedication to honing his technique and incessant practise, but also sculpting himself into a quite amazing physical specimen, almost superhuman in its power, speed, agility and physicality. He can run faster, jump higher and hit harder than most other footballers. And is also technically marvellous.

Messi also has that dedication, but in terms of the "modern footballer" of his time, no amount of gym work can make him 5 inches taller. So while he obviously has many natural gifts - low centre of balance, speed etc - he lacks some of the more obvious physical attributes that Ronaldo has.

And he's STILL better.

Arguably. Or as good, anyway - I'm not that bothered about who is better, because they're both outlandishly great players. Plus I don't really care.

Thought it would be something interesting:

3. Who would win in a dance off when smashed out of their minds?

How do you know my real name?

How do you know my real name?
I do possess excellent powers of deduction; firstly, you have a very similar posting style to a very good friend of mine also called Tom Brown (true story) and secondly you have unwittingly used all the letters of your name in your forum nom de guerre.

On further reflection though I think you might be Tombrow N. like when Brendan did his Brendanj "thing"......I have my suspicions; admitting to being Tom Brown they way you just did seems all too convenient. I'm onto you Tombrow!

Can't believe anyone could give a different answer

I would think so too but as a friend who is a big Ronaldo fan has pointed out he is racking up the personal and team awards.

At what stage is it not such an automatic answer for question two?

One helped the Mancs win titles and the Champions League. The other played a big role in humiliating the Mancs in two champions league finals.

There should be only one winner in this debate on a LFC forum.

Which teams would Messi not improve?

He would improve most teams - but he wouldn't necessarily be able to lead them to medals ... Granted, it's impossible to prove as both players have been at clubs who are dominant and win constantly but I think Messi's stats and dominance wouldn't be nearly as staggering if he wasn't in a system like Barca's from day 1. That doesn't mean he's not the world's best player - it's just the Barca set up is as key to making him great. I don't see the same with Ronaldo.

Team awards? He's been there eight years and won one league. He's their Lucas

You tell him Dreamy! Woland's face is going to be so red when he realises that he forgot about those two European Cup wins!
