See Messi's winner last night against Osasuna?

Cripes.

I'd fucking 'LOVE IT' if he tips the cunt to the post for world player of the year. Love it. He deserves it.

Who's faster dyou think?
[/quote]

You're kidding - Ronaldo by a street; faster acceleration and faster top pace. Messi really does have amazing balance though - it gets him into and out of very tightly marked situations.

Regardless of what Messi says though I'd still take Ronaldo over him; he didn't even pick Stevie in his world 11 which shows how flawed it is.

Messi has done very well this season and he could have a sensational year though I don't think he'll get near Ronaldo's 40+ goals. For me the question is what would Messi do in the epl and what would Ronaldo do in Spain. I'd be surprised if anyone has any doubts that Ronaldo would be an enormous success in Spain; I do imagine that there would be a few who might doubt how Messi could transfer his influence in Spain to England.

Messi's acceleration is part of what makes him so unstoppable - by the time defenders realize what's going on, he's past them. I don't know about top pace, but I wouldn't be so sure Ronaldo has a faster acceleration and if he does, it most certainly isn't by a street.

If anyone has been even half closely watching messi from the past 2 seasons, they would never doubt his ability in any league in the world. He's truly truly world class, probably the best player i've ever seen with the ball, the ball never escapes his feet, and the way he drops the shoulder is magical.

He gave chelsea so many problems at the bridge the last time they played, A cole couldn't handle him, he was just jinking past everyone left right and centre.

I truly believe anyone who would doubt Messi's impact or transfer of effectivness from spain to our league would be foolish.

I am a huge Messi fan and can't think of a reason as to why he wouldn't succeed here in England other than failing to settle (plus I'm not sure the cold weather would do his hamstrings any favours), however I can understand why some might have reservations I guess.

The Premiership is a notoriously difficult league for foreign players to adapt to (although can we saying it's becoming less so?) and maybe some would want to see how Messi handles being booted about the pitch by Prem defenders. In the recent El Classico, Real adopted the tactic of kicking the shit out of him early on in a desperate bid to give themselves a fighting chance and to a degree it worked - he started brightly, but faded after a few nasty fouls. He's suffered similar treatment before and come through it, but others may view it as something to consider.

Messi would be awesome in the Premier League, ideally for us.

They are both wonderful players.I would pay to watch either but first for Messi. He is just sublime to watch. However, I think Ronaldo offers more to a team.

Yeah, he did give Chelsea a roasting at the Bridge on the last visit; the time before that he limped off having decided it was all too rough. He did absolutely nothing in the 2nd leg against the mancs although the same could be said of Ronaldo.

Ultimately there is no doubting his skill but there have been a vast number of remarkably skillful players who've left the epl with a tattered reputation.

Messi is in that untouchable bracket.

Barring injury there is zero chance of him failing in any league in world football.

He is as close to Maradonna as you will ever see and his acceleration is quicker than Ronaldo's.

Ha! You're right - I did.

I also said it about Smicer, Veron and a number of other similar cases.

I re-iterate that I don't know if Messi would do well here or not; he certainly has the skill but he certainly didn't enjoy the attention Chelsea paid him on a couple of occasions; I doubt the likes of Bolton or Stoke would be shy in doing the same.

How the FUCK would he have beaten Ronaldo to that title?

Ronaldo scored 45 goals, won the biggest and best club trophy in the world, and his domestic title.

I'm surprised that some players in Holland were not up for the award then Brendan? Maybe Alfonso Alves should have been in for it?

I'm not saying the prick didn't score loads of goals, but in my opnion, world player of the year is about more than goals, it's about the all round ability of the player and his performances of that year. In which case Messi was miles ahead of him.

Means fuck all to me anyway, hope the cunt keeps up his driving style.

Are you intentionally missing the point that Ronaldo won the number one club trophy in the world with the mancs last year? Nobody playing in Holland could win the CL cause manu don't play in Holland.

Ronaldo was miles ahead of anybody last season in end product. His team won their domestic title (arguably the toughest domestic title in the world) as well as winning the Champions League ahead of every other team in Europe.

Messi??? Well he didn't perform anywhere near that level. This year a different story but last year its a simple no.

Just noticed on the BBC site that Balague & a national Spanish newspaper today are both reporting that Ronaldo has agreed a deal with madrid for next summer!

So winning arguably the best league in the world, the best club competition in the world and scoring over 40 goals did not merit the prize ahead of Messi, who, ermmm, let's see...er, nothing

I'll be clear here; anyone who doesn't think Ronaldo deserved that prize is a fucking clueless bell-end

With no offence intended by this - You obviously dont watch any Spanish football. And for sure didn't watch any last season.

Let me also list some players that got a champs league medal last year:
Gary Neville
Wes Brown
Darren Fletcher
Ji Sung Park

So being part of a squad that wins the champions league isn't the be all for winning world player of the year.

As I've said before, I think the only people that can comment on the difference between the waiter and Messi last season is people who watched both of them play last year. I was unlucky enough to watch about 10 whole games the waiters, and about 15 of Messi's.
I'd suggest you watched 38+ of the waiters, and fuck all of Messi's.

Mm, does'nt quite work like that Mors.

One of them, won a team the most competitive football league in the world and was part of a team that won the CL.

Scoring a phenomenal 40 odd goals.

The other did none of those things.

It's a no brainer. Messi is a great footballer, Ronaldo was just better last season.

mind you, I've always known Mors was a clueless fucking bell-end, so this further evidence was never really required

Well you're discussing it like a normal bloke, so I don't mind debating with you unlike the dick above.

Granted his team won the champs league, and he scored a boat load of goals against the relegation fodder, BUT, if you'd have watched Messi last season, and what he did against top opposition over and over again, you'd see why he was the better footballer last season. The waiter went missing or was ineffective in the majority of his big games last season but tore apart the shite most games, whereas it was the reverse for Messi - he seems to flourish in those games.

I'm not disputing that the waiter was one of the best players in the world last year, but, I'm saying anyone that watched Messi may well beg to differ that he was the best. I think the key is people seem to be blindly wanking over Ronaldo when they saw virtually nothing of Messi last year. Brendan watches fuck all Spanish football as he's a cock, so we'll rule out any of his opinions for a start.

You clueless fucking bell-end.

You must stop this Mors because all you're succeeding in doing is polarizing opinions after going to absurd extremes yourself. Maybe this is why Wizardry and a few others have devalued Messi's performances last season even though it's not necessary and wide of the mark.

Messi is playing at a higher level this season, but not by *that* much. He was in similarly sensational form last season, however was hampered by injuries and a team in disarray. Ronaldo had no such issues to contend with. Now that Messi is playing in a solid team, he too has the platform to get to Ronaldo's level (although I don't think they'll win the CL).

Ronaldo was on another level in terms what he achieved to anyone else last season and it *is* probably one of the finest individual seasons we'll ever witness from a player. It's ridiculous to bring up players like Park because you're comparing squad players to THE player that dragged them over the finish line in both competitions.
