You must stop this Mors because all you're succeeding in doing is polarizing opinions after going to absurd extremes yourself. Maybe this is why Wizardry and a few others have devalued Messi's performances last season even though it's not necessary and wide of the mark.

Messi is playing at a higher level this season, but not by *that* much. He was in similarly sensational form last season, however was hampered by injuries and a team in disarray. Ronaldo had no such issues to contend with. Now that Messi is playing in a solid team, he too has the platform to get to Ronaldo's level (although I don't think they'll win the CL).

Ronaldo was on another level in terms what he achieved to anyone else last season and it *is* probably one of the finest individual seasons we'll ever witness from a player. It's ridiculous to bring up players like Park because you're comparing squad players to THE player that dragged them over the finish line in both competitions.

I couldn't give two hoots about polarizing opion my friend.
And yes, my talk of the usless Fletcher and Park etc is meant in jest.

I'm not discrediting the waiters effort last season, but what I'm trying to tell you is that he played at a higher level against poorer oppositon more often than not, wheras last season and this season, Messi was/is capable of doing it against the best.

Messi has more ability with the ball at his feet, consistantly, than the waiter.

Matter of opnion. The fact is that the waiter won the award.

Ad finem.

What a fucking clueless bell-end you are Mors

It's no fucking wonder so many people think you're a dozy, hateful, ignorant cunt and wish you'd fuck off somewhere else
And no wonder you're not listening to provide something insightful to this discussion or to fucking jog on you prat.

Be off with you child.

These are the facts;

Messi is without any question of a doubt the best footballer around at this day and age.

Ronaldo did however do enough last Season to earn the prize. He was in outstanding form and as Messi was to often injured and not AS prolific at this time around last Season there's nothing wrong in handing the prize to the Portuguese*.

*Whom I dislike very very much btw.

Come on Mors, it's rare to come across team that can label most teams in the league as cannon fodder in the same way that Barca can at the moment. They're clearly on a different level, even to their rivals - which is evidenced by the fact that so far they've played Real, Sevilla, A.Madrid and Valencia off the park. So really, I don't think it's valid to say that Ronaldo has played against easier opposition - both enjoy the fact that they play in one of the best teams in Europe that are expected to thrash whoever is put in front of them the majority of games.

I agree that Messi is better at beating players, particularly in tight spaces however that's not really what is being discussed is it? If the contentious issue is who deserves all the awards, then the only answer is Ronaldo. They judge performances as well as achievements and there is no question as to who achieved more over that period of time.

The difference is about the trophies they won during the season and how instrumental they were in making their team won these trophies. Ronaldo won everything and was instrumental in ManU trophies. Messi won nothing.
Its a no brainers.

This is one of the strangest myths that just doesn't seem to go away.

Against the 5 sides below United in the premiership last season, he scored 8 goals including 1 in the Champions League final. With his other 7 Champions League goals it is fairly hard to say he doesn't do it against the bigger teams.

Ronaldo is a cunt but he is a cunt who is also the best player in the world.

I dont agree, messi is technically better than the manc bastard but he is not as fast nor is he as good in the air nor is he as good at getting goals.

IMO.

What would you say about Xavi vs Gerrard?

Im guessing that neil started this thread based on this season so far. As much as I hate to admit it Ronaldo had a season last year that if he didnt get world player of the year it would have been a disgrace. When you take everything utd won last year into consideration and how instrumental he was in it and even the goals scored against "relegation fodder" are worthy of it because as we all know it those games are equally important to get results in when putting together a winning title bid.

Messi is, at this moment in time, playing the best football on the planet and 12 months from now should he stay injury free and keep playing the way he is coupled with a la liga win and possibly some more silverware then he should win it hands down, but thats next year. I think he was a deserved runner up and definitely possesses more skill than ronaldo (plus doesnt act as much of a tit on the pitch) but that being said and agreeing that messi is the best in the world right now, i cant begrudge the Portuguese twat his awards.

Ronaldo was better last year, Messi is better this year. Simple really.

On another note, did you see the smug cunt collect his award? What a twat.

Messi will never top what Ronaldo did last season;

40 plus goals, the league title and the European Cup

One of the greatest individual seasons ever
Is correct.

If Ronaldo played for Barca and Messi for United, I'd daresay the opinion on here would be markedly different.

amused.

Hindsight is always 20/20

No one could predict someone could better that season from ronaldo

Someone will always break the unbreakable.

It usually takes more than a year though!

Take heed United !

Indeed. However I have never thought Ronaldo was ever better than Messi at any stage.
