Rodwell to city.

Isn't that what they offered for Agger? Is Rodwell centre half back up good news for Agger to stay?

Rodwell played mostly CB at junior level until he joined the blueslime's first team squad. Plenty of good judges say CB will be Martin Kelly's true position, and for the same reason, despite the fact that he hasn't played CB for the first team yet.

Thank you Judge. Not canny, sly, or strong enough to cope at CH in the Prem yet. But he will be, and will be in the mould of Rio as the boy can play.

One point i'd like to raise - despite thinking that Rodwell could be a good signing if he develops with Mancini - is that this move smacks of desperation. You only really need a CB (they only really have Lescott and Kompany, as Savic is shit and Richards inconsistent). I guess it's good for us as we may hold onto Danny boy but still, what an unnecessary signings.

This reminds me of Scott Parker going to Chelsea from Charlton a few years back. In the same vein, he’s gone waaay too early.

I can absolutely see why Moyes sold him. 15M for him, he can invest that into 3 or 4 other players, plus he keeps Fellaini who’s a more established player anyway.

But I can’t see this working, short-term anyway. He’s got talent, like Parker had, but I doubt he even knows how to properly play in the Premier League yet. He’s raw, needs a few ytears to develop, and this could end up hurting more than working for him. He looks like the sort of kid who needs to continually play, needs plenty of confidence, and has the manager’s backing. I’m not sure he’s gonna get that at City. He’ll be 3rd/4th fiddle, and will be expected to be ready to go from day one. He isn’t. He’s an unsure, talented but naïve centre midfielder that has gone too early.

He’ll be sold on within 3 years, confidence smashed.

Ryan - good points, it seems that these big clubs with money buy up young potential and then don't play them enough so they never reach the level one would hope. Consequently I think this actually has a huge knock on effect on the national team. He will be up against it big time at City.

About him leaving too soon, maybe...but it worked out for other players. Rooney didn't do too bad when he moved to Man U for instance. On the other hand your theory could be applied to a certain player we bought last summer.
Or he could have stayed and self-destructed like Michael Johnson.
City have a lot games this season and Rodwell is gonna get his fare share of time on the pitch.
The kid is clearly talented and he might just excel with better players around him.
Hence why I think it's a great move for City. I just find it strange that Ferguson didn't try to sign him. He was linked with them before.

Rooney was the best young player (arguably) in Europe when he left Everton.

There's a difference Modo.

True, how about Smalling, then?
Im not trying to be right I'm just saying that we don't really know.
Depends on the kid's mentality, I guess.

There's a difference between United and City though. United don't have 4 first team international footballers in every position, and they have Ferguson, who's a master at trusting and giving young players time and confidence. If Rodwell is afforded that at City, he could very well go on to be an excellent player. But the odds don't seem to stack up.

I have never seen it with Rodwell.
Hes obviously a good young player but ive never seen him as top 4 class.
Hope im right.

Rodwell has got a great deal of potential.

And if City have paid £12M then it's decent business for them providing they use him and he gets games. If he doesn't then it's just wasted money. City do not seem the sort of club which will persevere with young talent, but we shall see.
