Rodgers this season

Klopp this season
14 games 19 points = 1.35 points per game

Lol.

You can't judge a manager until he's had a full summer and a pre-season according to Sky sports, so this thread is moot Rosco.

Yup, it's not going well so far.

I'm sure klopp will improve when he gets players who he actually would like, rather than what's he's got.

To be fair , I think Danny ings would be having a field day in the league right now and as much as I like benteke as a player , he clearly doesn't fit the system and until we have a goalscorer in our starting xi , its hard to judge.

Any one of ings, sturridge or origi would improve our starting eleven immeasurably

The fact that it's Rodgers' team and the 0.15 point differential between him and Klopp probably says it all. Over a season its just 2 wins.

In my naivety I kinda expected an immediate turn around from Klopp, I thought this squad was good enough, sadly its not even close, we have to look to next season again, we have to miss out on the champions league again, and we have to miss a golden opportunity to gain on our rivals fuck up's yet a fucking gain. Still there is encouragement under Klopp, moreso than under Rodgers, when we play well,we play really well, and I believe there's a lot more to Klopp than there ever was to Brendan. The whole Mourinho esc throw on a CB worries me a little, but its already gained us points I suppose, but my main worry, is a problem Klopp's inherited, not created, it's the total lack of goals in this squad. If you have players in your team who score goals you do well in this league, it's not complicated its really fucking simple, if we don't buy a goalscoring winger / attacking midfielder this window I despair

Yep, its a travesty he's injured for both us and him, there's a worry that the whole injured player becomes messiah effect could be happening here, but I'm convinced he'd be in double figures by now if he'd stayed fit.

I will ashamedly put my hand up and say I expected him to make a silk purse out of a pigs ear of our first team squad, with or without the man of glass.
But apart from us harassing the opponents, having more possession, we still seem to be shit in defence still and we're not creating any real amount of clear cut chances, and when we do we seem to hit them straight at the keeper or off target.
This season will be a write off really, we'll just have to hope and pray that FSG bankroll him in the summer, and that he can unearth some hidden gems as the players we want probably wont come as we've no champions league football for them.

When Brendan took over he excused every setback by stressing the fact he'd inherited someone else's squad, so Klopp is entitled to say the same thing.

You should tell the full story though:

I am another who - despite my reputation - actually did think this squad was better than it obviously is. In mitigation, it really doesn't help when you lose the likes of Ings, Sturridge, Skrtel, Gomez,Coutinho to lengthy injuries, but even so.

I am a big fan of Klopp's personality and passion - not to mention a very impressive CV - and I do prefer how he seems to want us to play football, but the results have been disappointing, one has to admit that. He's still clearly a superior manager to Rodgers and doubt there's a Liverpool fan in the world who would prefer Rodgers to Klopp, but there's a LOT of work to do, and he is making some quite odd decisions.

But as we have already discussed, he isn't magic, so Top 4 seemed unlikely given we need at least 4 or 5 new players.

He's been here 100 (ridiculously congested) days and has had to contend with likely the worst initial injury list any new manager has had to face. Just look at how many CB combinations (usually of fringe players) he's had to pick.

He's an incredible track record at Dortmund and has the air of a man with deserved confidence in his methods.

Why on earth is anyone questioning him right now?

His position shouldn't be questioned, but some of his decisions deserve to be looked at.

The continued faith in Mignolet
A failure to address our weakness from set pieces
Selecting sides with little goal threat.
Bringing Benteke on too late last night.

I had hoped from better for him, but he hasn't had it easy. It's becoming clear than this isn't a job which will work with some quick fixes. He's going to need 2-3 years to stamp his identity on to this club.

I would certainly echo all of those points. Well, I have to, given I've made them too. Repeatedly.

Except for the very last bit. I am expecting next season to be a much closer reflection of what he can do at Liverpool.

Think those can be mitigated to some extent. Continued faith in Ming may well be because he has no other choice (although a new contract undermines that). Weakness from set pieces - aye, that's a major problem and I had hoped things would have improved by then.
Selecting sides with little goal threat - without Sturridge, Ings or even Origi we have no goal threat. Not sure Benteke coming on earlier would have made much difference as he's been shite.

I don't know what on earth the club is doing with Mignolet, but Klopp (outside of the press conference PR puffery) doesn't seem THAT full of faith. He's tried playing Bogdan, realised he's even worse. There's not much that can be done before the summer apart from working to boost Mignolet's fragile confidence. As with so many issues, it's surely a case of 'wait and see'.

The weakness with set pieces HAS been 'addressed'. It just hasn't been solved. Again, we've not had a settled back four since he arrived, and he currently has to play Kolo in there, so I'm not that surprised there's not a dramatic improvement. The malaise in defence has been there for years. Rodgers took a step forward by buying Clyne. Klopp has done well to get Sakho back in, and Moreno a little more solid, and bring back Smith, but, yes, I'd imagine they're working hard to get set piece defending much better. Will it improve quickly? I doubt it but it needs to.

Selecting sides with little goal threat? The same sides that have struggled have looked pretty threatening in other games, most notably against Man City. The bigger point is: we don't HAVE much of a goal threat. We have a top striker who is chronically crocked, and Benteke has been woeful much of the time.

I agree it's going to take a long time to turn this around. As I said before, this season is going to be full of mini experiments and sudden highs and lows.

We're playing better.

The defence looks more organised.

Our forwards can't score.

In essence - we're a more cohesive team, but the key things that undermined the end of the Rodgers "era" are still there.

It won't get sorted immediately.

All good points.

However he has ruled out looking at new keepers in January. He's decided to 'wait and see' rather than act in the window. I just hope his options currently aren't available and he'll sort it out in the summer. It's good of him to allow every to start fresh under him, but as a fan it's frustrating having to watch a new manager have to go through the same process we all have over the last 2-3 years in realising that Mignolet is not up to standard.

My issue with the lack of goal threat doesn't come solely from the strikers, though. I agree he should be playing Firmino as his striker and keeping Benteke on the bench. The problem last night he placed Milner and Lallana either side of him and it meant we couldn't produce. Neither are creative or direct enough to help us score goals. Ibe, whilst far from a savior, is more likely to either score or assist than the pair of them and he was left on the bench. A front three of Milner, Firmino and Lallana could play for a week and not score a goal. The side last night was selected more to run than to score.

If everyone's fit we're not too bad. Not good, but not bad. Say a 5th placed team not a 9th placed team. Klopp has however inherited a squad that is mediocre and lacking in leadership, and skill. This time next year, if we're where we are now I'll be worried. The team wont look anything like it does once he's had a summer and some money.

We've got a decent team. Unfortunately it's injured.

Yeah that's a big factor for me. We had zero cutting edge yesterday. Coutinho, Ings and Sturridge would have made a world of difference. Of course we have to deal with injuries and our back up players to them are simply not as good. That is always going to be the case though. We will have a chance (another one) in the summer to buy a striker who can play with Sturridge (when fit) or replace him when injured. Skrtel, Gomez, Ings, Coutinho and Sturridge are all out and they would be in my first team if available. That's five first team players. I do think we have some good players but sadly they are injured and their supporting cast aren't good enough on their own to carry the team.

The best we can do now is plug away til the season end and address it again in the summer. There was no point buying a CB. Lovren and Skrtel and Gomez are to return. Loan deal for Caulker was the correct thing to do and then move for Matip (insert potential first choice CB here) in the summer. There was also no point buying a goal keeper. We'd need to find one willing to leave mid season and any decent keeper might even be cup tied for Europe. We will have to make do with our two shit heals til the summer. If Klopp doesn't buy a new keeper in the summer I'll be amazed.
I would always welcome an attacking outlet regardless of what transfer window it is but I'm presuming any player we buy would be a stop gap and potentially a waste of money. I think, what i'm trying to say is that I'm close to being happy with washing my hands of this dire season. If we had a realistic chance of 4th I'd be willing to cough up the cash to buy a few players to carry us over the line but is 4th a pipe dream at this point?

He needs to buck up his ideas.
I am sure he will but with results as they are and showing he cant really improve a squad with his coaching methods, tactical nous etc (something the likes of Pullis, Sherwood, Pardew and a bunch of other shite managers have shown they CAN do) you would hope that he will wave the magic wand regarding transfers.
Caulker and Long would suggest that may not be the case.

Im far from convinced by anything ive seen other than 2 games where Coutinho played out of his skin and made us look a proper team.

Nothing we can do about injuries, but Arsenal have Sanchez, Ozil, Walcott, Cazorla and Coquelin out or in and out and still seem to find a tune.....oh yeah they have a goalkeeper and not a giddy string of sausages.

21 games in 100 days doesnt give you much time for coaching though.
But, we've created the most chances in the league since he took over and seeing as we have about zero goalthreat you can see where the problem is.
10-12 injuries wont help and as George Graham once said about taking over a new club "this squad got the other manager sacked". Its far to early to judge this in any way or form. Yes, in some matches Klopp could have handled things differently but its a learning process for him aswell. We've seen some of these cuntbag players for years and know how average some of them are.
We've had issues defensively for years now and that wont solve itself in a few months. Certainly not without a pre season.

Signing Caulker on a 6 month loan means nothing. Better to do that and wait for your first choice targets who are available this summer. We wont sign Long.

Comparing us to Arsenal who have had Wenger in charge for nearly 20 years is a bit pointless. Even with injuries to 4-5 players the way of play and tactics are incorporated from top to bottom.
