Rod Fanni Skills

And the Daily Mirror says:

Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson is ready to move for French right-back Rod Fanni - as he looks to replace Glen Johnson.

Hodgson flew to watch the Rennes defender against Auxerre on Sunday and is poised to make a bargain offer of around £3 million in the New Year window.

Fanni, 29 next month, is one of the most respected right backs in his homeland and has won five caps for France.

He has been close to coming to the Premier League before when Newcastle, Sunderland and Everton tried for him.

Hodgson is in the market for an experienced defender and is frustrated by England right back Johnson’s injuries and average form since he took charge.

Johnson will be sold in the January market if a suitable offer comes in and Hodgson’s decision to look at potential replacements points towards a change in that department.

Fanni is a regular in the Rennes side but almost joined Atletico Madrid in the summer before the move fell through.

Hodgson has been playing Jamie Carragher and young Martin Kelly as cover for Johnson during his absence, but a sensible investment in a mature international would fit in with his plans.

Liverpool’s new owners would like to sign young talent for the future, but there are short-term measures also needed - and landing a player who could take over from Johnson and give them a profit would also tick boxes.

Amusing name. That's all I know about him.

But certainly Budgie has got a decent track record in signing 29 year old defensive players for Liverpool.

We'd definately be a hit with the porn industry.

A team full of Cunts and Fannis, with an old cunt for a manager (for the gerontophile demographic).

This is bollocks.

We've got 4 or 5 potential World Class players in the squad on their respective positions and on form Glen Johnson is one of them.

He's years younger than this for me rather unknown 29-year-old and most likely better too.

If this is true it's just sad so I've decided it's bollocks.

There is no way on this earth Budge should be around until January, nevermind trusted to spend a penny in the transfer market for us. I loathe him.

I did promise to cut out the insults, mainly to Stu, but I can't do it any longer.

Hahaha. Once I read the title I knew what was coming.

Just LOL. It was obvious but it still brightened my day

surely the fact that he's a month away from being 29 will mean that NESV will veto this deal as it doesn't represent value for money?

I wonder if this would be Budge's signing though? I'm quite sure Comolli has his hands in this one if it happens.

Value for money does not always mean "young".
It often means "old and cheap"

So we're replacing our Johnson with a Fanni?
*chortle*

If this Fanni is class then he's perhaps beeing brought in for RW or with the view to move Johnson upfield?

That's the only way anyone can defend this signing. And it's still a rather slim argument.

I don't know if Magic is a better RB than Fanni, but I bet it's quite tight.

Havent seen much of him but my mate who watches the french ligue seems to think he is pretty good
Talking of Fannis

Fanni is a defensively sound full back, johnson isn't and is injury prone. That's how I'd defend this signing
Does this mean Roy is in the hunt for Fanni?
Seems so and is prepared to pay £3m too. And it's a bargain for him.

Probably a case of 1+1 too, given that he watched Rennes' match. The initial Stade Rennes player linked was Yann M'vila yesterday. Fanni's name might've been brought up due to the Glenn Johnson remarks by Roy.

Well people might have jumped to conclusions that we were looking at a young, highly rated midfielder for Rennes. Instead, Roy was probably there watching this old, cheap, average full back.
We've got Kelly.

And Johnson isn't 'worldclass' unfortunately.
Potentially he is. When on form you'll struggle to name more than three better attacking-minded right fullbacks.

Fanni is a better defender than Johnson. No doubt.
But Johnson is a better attacking full back. Might aswell stick with ole GlenJo
