Robbo at LCB

This is a problem - one that exacerbates another defensive problem we have on the opposite flank. What is Klopp thinking exactly? Is he going to ask Robbo to play differently when the season starts? If not, Konate and Trent will pay the price.

I fucking hate it with passion. The hybrid was a good temporal switch to factor for our deficiencies at RB/Midfield but now we need to sign a DM or 2 that can cover at right fullback when Trent’s jogging back from high up, go back to having Trent playing at RB and Robbo at LB.

Why are we moving away from the system that worked so well for us?

This quote was from a few days ago. Yet, in our last pre-season game this was exactly what we saw - one full-back in the middle and the other constantly high up on the left side. So strange!

Well, we're not signing a LCB, so best get used to it.

Also should anticipate Konate, Matip and Gomez being rotated through that RCB position given that one of them will almost certainly be injured at any given point.

Poor van Dijk will be begging for a move to Saudi Arabia by the end of the season.

See - I don’t think it was a temporal fix.

We started pushing Trent more infield at the start of last season and we’ve continued to do it ever since.

The tweak was having Gakpo as a False 9 and having Jones provide the width on the left instead of Robbo.

The problem we had last season wasn’t just about Trent - it was the space that opened up between our CBs.

@ibromurph is bang on - we’re playing with 2 CBs - because Robbo likes to push up - he has to hold his position more.

Although, that was always our problem - because we’ve always pushed our FB’s high up the pitch and we’ve never used a double pivot at DM until the Trent hybrid role started to evolve.

We could revert to old Trent - but the problem will be the same - opposition will hit the space behind him & Robbo.
