Rivals : United

Trust me on this.

When you have to start justifying big-money players as a "statement of intent", your club is fucked.

Maybe if it isn't followed up by further signings.

Di Maria is a fantastic player, have we over paid? Yes absolutely probably by as much as £20m
Will he improve us? Yes absolutely

Yeah I couldn't be arsed having a united thread here. What's the benefit of it? To give our one poster who supports united a platform to give us a level headed view on things? Couldn't give a fuck. What are we doing talking about their sponsorship deals and CEO etc. Fuck that off. This thread will only be worthwhile if the united fan cracks and gives us some entertainment due to a e-rage meltdown.
I've no problem chatting about United with my level headed friends who support them. I'll hear them out, because, well, their my mates. I'll even suffer a bit of idle chat about their current predicament with work colleagues and feign some sort of understanding while masking the majority of my delight at their demise at the same time. No offence to the united fan here but I've no motivation to converse about their current plight and play nice with a blow in off the internet.

United mocked and heckled us as they won all around them. I grew up to this. I didn't get to experience our 'glory' days. It's hilarious watching them struggle each weekend. The fear factor is slipping if not gone. Long may it continue. The bookies had them favourites to be top by the end of August. Delighted the early bubble has burst and the fresh start under LVG is already stale. I hope QPR scalp them after the international break. One more year outside the Top 4 would be excellent.

You've really got 2 options mate.

a) If you (pl. ) want to talk about the PL, and our rivals in general, then threads like this permit you to do so. It's sometimes enlightening (if you want to be enlightened) and better improves your knowledge of the opposition, LFC's ability to handle them and how our players compare, and your ability to debate against them from a position based on fact not fiction or wishful thinking.

b) Don't enter the thread in the first place ! It's so damn obvious, the title tells you all you need to know so you can't enter by mistake. You don't want to talk about United or Chelsea or City ? Then don't go into threads that are set-up to discuss their players, team, manager or their threat to our CL place. The thread was set-up to debate just those aspects and yet it seems some people are coming in here just to bitch and vent, one has to ask WTF and why do you feel the need to do that when as a team we are well ahead of them at the moment ? All the thread does is take up one line on the forum page, just skip past it and save yourself the pain.

We are all in here because we love LFC (well most of us) but LFC doesn't exist in isolation and therefore all aspects of the PL/CL/FAC and all of our rivals that may/do impact on our club should be worthy of debate.

I think it's the level of discussion that I'm not enjoying Froggy. I've no problems discussing United, Chelsea etc. If we had a Chelsea or City thread (for example) we wouldn't be playing nice and talking in depth about their sponsorship deals, what's their best formation and all things nice like that. A Chelsea thread for example would only exist to poke fun at their plastic soulless fans and hapless owner/'fan' in the stand. If we get a level headed Chelsea fan on the boards do we open a thread for them to enlighten us as it "improves your knowledge of the opposition, LFC's ability to handle them and how our players compare, and your ability to debate against them from a position based on fact not fiction or wishful thinking".

That last bit (using your own words against you) wasn't me being a cunt by the way. I'm just venting, but if other's have no problem with a United thread like this then fire away. I'll probably continue to read it like, something to do isn't it!!

Fact is (for me at least) beating United and being able to enjoy their current situation was a major part of the delight of last season (and hopefully this). I grew up with us sweeping all before us, both domestically and in Europe, so the last 20 years have, with the odd beautiful exception here and there, been a nightmare.

Now the situation, for as long as it remains, is reversed and this thread will enable me to revel in it, as well as satisfying my urge to know what is happening with our bitterest rivals and discuss PL football in general. I'm sure if something horrendous comes to pass then this thread will die a quick death 😉

I get Dave's point, but I love hearing from fans of other teams, so this thread and others like it don't bother me.

I get bored to pure cunt reading the same bullshit from most of you lot, and there's only so many times I can go back and re-read my own posts, so it's at least refreshing to have an alternative discussion once in a while.

I agree completely.

Fresh from motivating Kagawa by telling the press that the player didn't wish to conform to his system, Van Gaal tries his hand to gee up Marcos Rojo, by giving him some sound advice:

But Van Gaal warned the Argentina international, who was sent off four times during two seasons in Portugal, that he needs to improve his disciplinary record.

"First of all, he needs a lot of brain to be aware of spaces because we are defending spaces and that is the first word I used to him," he added.

Having a thread like this is a good idea as it keeps all comments re: United in one place and those who don't like it just don't need to enter. Simple. Should also prevent comments about them entering other threads. win win as moaners moan less and those who like to discuss football wider than United can do so more.

Running the risk of a quiff I know but if we are in a thread titled "rivals" why are we discussing Man U?

I thought it might be a good idea to have one on each of the top teams - but United as our bitterest rival and probable rival with Arsenal for 2 of the other CL spots (City & Chelsea being shoe-ins) was first up. I did offer to change it to an all encompassing 'Rivals' (no designated team) however the mods felt it was OK to leave it as it is.

Shakes head in disbelief and amazement

I'll continue to read the thread mate, it's new posts at the end of the day isn't it? It was just the content that had me pissing and moaning initially. At one stage I think there was a discussion on whether United should sell Welbeck or not. Fuck Welbeck like, ha. What next, should Cleverly go out on loan or remain a part of the first team squad? It's okay to have a thread on united to keep on top of things but do we really need to discuss them as if they were our own team? For what, to facilitate a united fan? (no offence to the poster, he seems sound like).

A Chelsea thread or conversation wouldn't exist like the united one. We'd all just rag on Chelsea and call them out for the plastic pricks they are. The united one really only exists as a platform for the united fan to patronise us with his balanced and realistic views. 😉 Maybe if we create a Chelsea thread, we can tag team the shit of Chelsea and co with our new united fan?

As I said, I'll continue to join in with the thread when things prop up that interest me. I'll drop the moaning as I'm only repeating myself.

It's hilarious. He's worth half that.
My dad's a Madrid fan so watch a fair few games with him, and the guy is good, but not that good. Not even close.
Considering 15 mil more gets you Suarez.
Hilarious.
It's on a par to us signing Andy Carol.

He's a very good player, not on the level of ronaldo/messi etc but he's one of the most direct wingers in the world right now.

On a par with Carrol?

Thats just a bizarre statement in all fairness.

His value should be closer to 35-40 So i'd defo agree with that
