So sad to hear. Brought the club back and helped modernise us by becoming more professional. Will never forget the treble season. RIP le patron

Sad news, a real football man. I'll never forget his return against Roma after heart surgery, that was a special night. He did so much to help turn the club arpund after we had lost our way a little bit

Wow - What shit news. He hasn't been a well man though so not a total surprise

RIP club legend

He was a bit like a parent, with the kids hating him, criticising and disagreeing with everything they do at the time, and then eventually realising they were right.

Very sad. He was a strange mixture - very suave and seemingly self-asssured, and yet he read absolutely everything about himself and took any criticism incredibly personally. There's no doubting how important he was for the club - he dragged it ito the 21st century, he made it more professional and, regardless of how it ended for his own reign, the success that followed has been in part because of the changes that he set in motion.

Genuinely upsetting and horrible news.

He was the first manager who I saw success under and restored some pride in the club. Excellent manager and a true gent until the end. He laid the foundations for Benitez and all following managers for us to be a top club.

A man so obsessed with football and nearly killed him and certainly shortened his life.

He'll be missed.

Sad sad new. [emoji26]

He modernized the club, and brought us much needed glory.

RIP Ged.

Got it in one, macca. I wished at the time that he'd been able to bring himself to leave earlier, as I was afraid the last knockings of his by then exhausted regime might adulterate his legacy, but all things considered there's no doubt in my mind that his LFC account will always be substantially in credit.

Gérard Houllier RIP.

I've felt genuine sadness about the passing of someone I've never met 5 times in my life.

This is one of those times.
