Did u not read my last line?

I did.

It's also one of the reasons we didn't sign Kaka, Ronaldo or Messi
There isn't any really, but it is the clubs job to keep any rifts under wraps. A lot does get reported these days but an equal amount will go undiscovered. You must admit that it's a strange a player who was playing in the best international team in the world, fully fit, couldn't get a look in in our squad for a good while.

It could be completely wrong but it seems logical enough to me.

Riera is better helping our defensively than any other LW option we have. Considering how badly Insua's struggling, he is important.
Hes better offensively than anything we have on the left too! Thats not saying he's brilliant, hes ok! But he does bring a better balance to the left. And yes.....Insua is a nightmare at the moment. Rafa needs to stick him on the bench or back in the reserves to work on his weaknesses. Or send him out on loan or somewhere where his lack of experience wont harm the first team!

I think we've missed Riera dearly this Season. He's got great abilities and can score you goals and take on defenders.

That said he's got to work on his general level of performance.

When he's bad like he surely was in the weekend he's just really, really bad.
He's had a shit goal scoring record throughout his career. And he rarely beats a man on account of being so slow.

He is our best left winger, though.

I'm fine with him being off the pace, needing game time, looking a little out of touch.

I'm not fine with his fucking bullshit effort, like the one he (didnt) put in on Saturday. S'far as I'm concerned, he barely even tried at the weekend, and for someone who struggles to get into our best 11 at the best of times, that's hardly acceptable.

He came back from the Confederations Cup with ideas way above his station in my opinion. You're not a Torres, a Reina, a Gerrard, or a Mascherano Albert. So swanning around the park with the swagger of one is pretty ill-becoming.
I agree with the effort part but I think its understandable considering how he's been treated this season.

I'd rather a player p*ssed off with not getting games than say Voronin who doesn't seem to give a shit.
But surely the point is that a player "pissed off with not playing" should be showing how pissed off he is by champing at the bit to get back in and prove how much of a cock his manager was being and not swanning around the pitch looking bored and disinterested.

I'd imagine Riera was dropped at the start of the season to gte his feet firmly back on the ground. Since then he's had injuries and shown no form what-so-ever. I don't want to be too harsh on the lad as he is comiong back from injury, but performances like his against Blackburn do not help his case.
I agree but not every player is a model pro like Yossi.
So what are you suggesting.... preferential treatment to those who go in a huff or make little effort?
You treat players based on their mentality. You can't treat them all the same. Every top coach knows this. F8ck it an under 8'd coach knows this.

Some need the arm around the shoulder, some need a fire under their ass.

Rafa treats them all the same and it doesn't work.

Well, if he came back from the confederations cup with ideas above his station, that says to me he was confident, perhaps even over confident, and there is absolutely no harm in that at all for a player.
Perhaps Rafa saw it the way you seem to have too and decided to slap him down a bit and not include him in the squad for the opening game.... that will show him who's boss. It will fuck up his confidence , but he will know who is boss and that he is not a Torres, a Reina, a Gerrard, or a Mascherano...or indeed a Lucas or a Dirk

Well, given that Riera contributed fuck all goals and fuck all assists last season, I doubt we've lost out on that much. In the long-run, it might work out for the best. Who knows?

Zero goals and assists? I don't think that's quite right Ryan........Whatever he did or didn't contribute last season is a fucking site more than has been contributed from the left this season.

What? In what way will it end up better in the long run?

Riera is better than anyone else at the club at that position, as proven by many many games, not just by the handful he's intermittently had this season. That isn't a raving endorsement given his competition, but you put the best you have on the field.

So no matter what goes wrong we can always just say who knows how it will work out?

Reira should have started the season on the left for us considering how we have faired til now. Everyone bar yourself is in agreement on that.

Riera would be an excellent squad player to retain - as back up to David Silva.
What the hell are we waiting for?

Missed this post earlier.

You're making assumptions Vlad. His form at the Confed Cup wasn't that fucking flash, which I've really no problem with. His form in the pre-season games for us was brutal though, and (in my opinion) was related to a bit of a swagger he'd gained from being away with the bigger names. You can carry that off if you're gonna perform on the park, but he was coming into the new season with us wildly off form. Babel, by conicidence, had done ok in pre-season, and Rafa chose him for Spurs. Again, fine. I'm not a huge fan of either as you know, (I will admit Riera's the better option of course) but if Riera was off the boil, getting ideas above his station, and at the time Babel was showing some encouraging signs then I've no issues with that team selection.

Of course Riera went on to play a few games after that, and was fucking rubbish, before getting injured for a lengthy spell. Hardly Rafa's fault.

I think you're over-exaggerating Rafa's treatment of him. Besides, even if he were trying to bring him down a peg or two, it's hardly a revolutionary tactic or a stick to beat him with, given that such 'laying down of the law' is what Managers like Ferguson, Wenger and Mourinho their names.

Joe Cole
Beckham
Ian Wright
Vieira
Ince
Stam
Scholes
Terry

Every one of them have received similar treatment from their managers for getting too big for their boots. Rafa's, Albert's, and our problem is that unfortunately Riera doesn't have a fucking ounce of the ability of one of the afore-mentioned.

Some people take such treatment and better themselves, like the above. Others fucking swan around Ewood Park on their return like their Johann fucking Cruyff. Luckily for us though, we've got a manager to blame for that.

If he can find even a modicum of form, then he has got to be in. We have looked so narrow and Insua has been 'got at' too many times this season.

I am not making any assumptions Ryan.
The only assumption in this is "He came back from the Confederations Cup with ideas way above his station "
All I was saying was ifRafa saw it the way you did perhapshe decided to give him a slap. Which unless I have read this completely wrong was your spin too.
I am merely pointing out that , in my opinion, players like Riera should be built up and not knocked down.
As regards form in pre season, I seem to recall most players being shite, particularly those who returned from the confederations cup, and in fact those players pretty protected. I have just checked and he does not feature on the starting line up of any.
In my opinion Riera has been harshly treated after an excellent start to last season that did tail off, but as everyone else can see his worth is that he does give some balance to the team, which helps others play more consistently.
I am not saying he is a world beater, but he is our best option and I don't think he has been handled well this season

regards

Good post Vlad.
Reria was poor against Blackburn but he wasn't alone.
I also have never noticed this 'swagger' either. Surely it would be a good thing to see at least one of our players with some confidence right now?
