No, most strikers start off nothing like Robbie or Owen - and end up nothing like Robbie or Owen. I don't see anything in Wash's game at all tbh: not enough pace, not enough power, not enough composure or control or vision or precision. What, other than blind hope, makes you think he'll make it at Liverpool?

HE CAN DO STEPOVERS!!!!!!

I am trying not to get excited about any of these kids ... I just cannot see Rafa even given them 'sub time' unless it's an emergency (ie Ayala vs Spurs & Stoke) ...

Wash gets way more playing time than I'd like, as it is.

He's the one 'youngster' who gives me hope that Rafa will give our youngsters a chance down the line ... He's good enough to be a very good player for us in the long haul. Have faith ... Not every striker starts off like Robbie or Owen.

watch the dismantling of the England u21 team by N'gog ... or just see how this kid, who you think lacks everything, does score goals - even if they're simple tap ins like vs Stoke. I just wish people would look at how Manure built the spine of their team the past 20 years. Fantastic youth players who either became stars or solid contributors (ie Fletcher, Wes Brown, Phil Neville etc) ... So we don't have 'stars' but they can be solid contributors -

The odd thing is - I think N'Gog has a better chance of 'making' it at Liverpool than Pacheco ...

Yes, Pacheco has so much more pressure on him to 'click' when he gets his chance. He has to come in and immediately be at the centre of things tactically and at the top of his game, otherwise it'll all go Lucas-like with the booing brigade. Someone like Ecclestone could go on for a few minutes, use their pace and have some fun. I hope Pacheco does make it, though, he's definitely got the potential.

Yeah, I never saw that u-21 game, which is apparently the only evidence that Wash is really a footballer. I take your point about solid contributors, LTW, but such players tend not to be strikers. To be a striker at a top club, you need to have more than just a good attitude and a good engine.

And let's face it, *anyone* could have scored that goal against Stoke, including Mellor and all the other young reserve strikers who never made it here.

Considering players that a lot of us rate, like Pacheco (great skill) or Nemeth (fantastic finihser), cannot get a game and he does, he's obviously rated by Rafa.

I think he's a capable finisher, and that's all I really want from a striker - he doesn't have to have Bellamy's speed, or Zlatan's skill etc, just the ability to score a goal every 2/3 games ... and I think he can do that.

I'm amazed he didn't do what Lucas did and worked on some weights over the summer. At least Lucas tried to do something to adapt more effectively to the English game. N'Gog seems as frail as ever - he dodged some challenges last night and was brushed aside by young defenders when he did try to beat them. I quite like his balance and his technique, but he just has to get stronger.

I think Ngog is a capable finisher too. Whenever a chance has fallen to him, he has taken them with a degree of composure.

I also think he's capable of a decent weight of pass and can link up quite well. There was a league match last season when he started.... can't remember which and there weren't that many. He was awful until he got his goal and then he was transformed and I was really surprised by how good his link up play is.

The only thing is that he isn't ready yet to be Torres's cover should we need him in that role for a sustained period of time.

I wonder if Rush would have made it if he was starting now. He was an under-confident young player (or rather one who'd lost a lot of confidence when he stepped up to a new standard) who really only started to find his real potential after being coaxed back to form in the reserves. I doubt N'Gog will have many games for the reserves, he'll just be sitting on the bench. Players don't improve this way, they just keep going on to look under-confident and a bit lost.

A very good point. He was heading for the door before Paisley provoked him into realising his potential.

The one thing he has got is a knack for taking up good positions off the ball, he does what all good strikers do in getting infront of the goalkeeper and generally finding space in the box.

On the ball though he leaves alot to be desired.

Pretty much 😀

No seriously, most of the goals he's scored have been tap ins from being in the right place, at the right time, which as I said is what alot of good strikers do (Owen for example). It's just basic stuff but at least he has that something.

And as said, he does have good balance and a few tricks up his sleeve, it's just sometimes when running with the ball he looks a bit Babel-esque (ie, brainless).
