Aah-HAH !

The *crux* of the matter.

So, a "controversial" Scouser....ooooh, let meeee seeee, let's say, Joey Barton, is Kosha ?

Least he knows he's a tit.

Fined and his twitter page be shut down. That'll probably be the outcome. From a business perspective, it'd be silly to sack him.

Nathan Eccleston

A YOUNG Liverpool FC striker was today under investigation by the club after claiming 9/11 was not the work of terrorists.

Reserve team striker Nathan Eccleston, 20, has caused outrage after his posting on Twitter on the 10th anniversary of the atrocity.

In it, he claimed the attacks were "an accident" and that he believed the "Illuminati" – a shadowy society spread across the world – were responsible.

Eccleston, who has so far made nine appearances for the Reds, wrote: "I aint going to say attack don’t let the media make u believe that was terrorist that did it. #O.T.I.S."

OTIS stands for ‘Only The Illuminati Succeed’.

Now senior officials at the US-owned club have told the Manchester-born player he faces an investigation into his posting.

Today, the Tweet had been removed from his site.

An LFC spokesman said: "The club takes this matter extremely seriously and senior club officials have informed Nathan Eccleston that we are undertaking an investigation into the circumstances surrounding these postings and will decide on an appropriate course of action."

Fans were split over the striker’s actions.

Some took to internet message boards to defend him as "only young", saying he was allowed to voice an opinion.

But most slammed him, with some calling for him to never wear the shirt again and others labelling him as "idiotic, misinformed and basically stupid".

Eccleston joined LFC from Bury aged 15 and has spent time out on loan at Huddersfield Town and Charlton Athletic.

He gave up his number 39 shirt from last season’s squad when Craig Bellamy returned to Anfield last month.

Are the club right to investigate him or should he be allowed to say what he likes?

Re: Nathan Eccleston

I think we should be careful about being overly indignant, its like the world has become one enormous "daliy mail".

He is clearly being a twat.... let him.... he will either wise up or he won't.

I don't see how the club can judge him TBH, rightly or wrongly they're his beliefs, he's not being offensive or derogatory in them either.

Personally I think believing in the Illuminati in the traditional form is bizarre, but belief in global events being controlled by a small number of people with wars & 'terror' being exaggerated & even created for their profit is a fairly obvious conclusion when you step back from the shite we're regularly fed.

How would we react when some ill-informed idiot repeats the old canards about Hillsborough? Tom Werner lost friends on 9/11, and this clot babbles crap about the incident now. He's a stupid person who needs educating, just like the Hillsborough myth-propagators do.

Bit of a fuss about not a lot really isn't it?

He's not being that offensive to anyone. The view he has is one that many people have - you can read similar in loads of articles, you hear it on TV and radio, there are videos on YouTube etc.

Okay, most sensible people would say these theories are a load of nonsense but if he believes them that is up to him. Don't care much. I care that he doesn't appear to be a particularly good player but that is another issue!

I sense Lawro tearing up that open letter right now. It's all about opinions, innit.

Extremely valid point

Conspiracy theorists and Holocaust deniers can be infuriating, but we are all entitled to think what we like. Only the Communists and the Spanish Inquisition made bad thoughts into a crime for which you could be punished.

It's when people start to express their thoughts to others that potential problems can arise, but I wouldn't say a tweet by a reserve team player amounts to a big deal.

I'm sure if Eccleston was in the first team and scoring regular hat tricks, we would be a bit more tolerant of his peculiar opinions! ;D

Personally i think it's fucking ludicrous the lad's comments are being investigated. He's entitled to his opinion and what he's said hasn't been disproved has it.

The timing was a bit off, no?
A simple RIP would suffice.
In the end it was a memorial for 3000+ people who died.

He can freely express his thoughts in private, but as long as LFC pays his wages he is also a representative of the club. Anything he says in public reflects on the club. He (and anyone else employed by the club who spouts retarded bullshit in public) should be punished. This is normal procedure for any public entity that has any concern for its image at all.

It was very poor timing .

Regardless of the cause. The outcome was the loss of life for thousands .

Also he surely knows the nationality of his employers ..

Yeah, it wasn't the smartest thing to come out with at such a time but an investigation over his comments is daft in my view.

There have been at least two TV programmes that I've seen demolishing the conspiracy theory in the last few days, and they've had plenty of predecessors.

But he's not saying the victims of 9/11 brought it on themselves, or their deaths were caused by co-workers.

I don't see the parallels.

The investigation is probably about the timing of the tweet. A little sensitivity is called for.

That's precisely what it was as far as the inquisition was concerned, otherwise they wouldn't permit conversion.

The idea that only communists and the spanish inquisition made bad thoughts into a crime is laughable though. First of all, no one has access to your thoughts do they? What is punished is the expression of those thoughts in word or deed. And as far as what governments/institutions do that? Every single one.
