Reina to Bayern Munich

There were serious offers? "Yes," he says. "I stayed because I wanted to keep believing in Liverpool."

In fact, Reina, Torres and Gerrard – the club's three greatest assets – were told they could not leave at a time when the club were looking for a new buyer. Reina will not admit it and nor will he deny it. "The clauses in my contract are between me and the club," he says simply – but he secured a buy-out clause understood to be in the region of £20m. In the meantime, little changed to encourage him to stay. In fact, the handling of Torres's departure did the opposite. Loyalty cuts both ways.

"The offer for Torres came back again," Reina says simply. The offer for him did not. But it will. And then? Reina puffs out his cheeks. "I can't … I don't want to guess what the future holds."

Reina has already ruled out a move back to Spain, telling Onda Cero radio: "My place is in England." Arsenal's goalkeeping crisis has not gone unnoticed; nor has Edwin van der Sar's imminent retirement at Manchester United. For Liverpool fans the nightmare scenario emerges: lose to Manchester United tomorrow on Sunday and their rivals will step closer to taking their record of league titles off them and they could yet take their goalkeeper too.

If much of what Reina says about Torres applies to himself, there is one thing that does not. Torres ruled out United. Asked whether he would do the same, Reina replies: "No player can ever say no to anything."

Reina wasnt good in his last season, it didnt look like his heart was in it anymore, but then neither was anyone elses we were fucking cack.

I wish him good luck.

I still think Mignolet is waaaay to dodgy and we need better.

I started following the club in Fall 2010, so I have a very limited window. But I've never seen the good Reina from that point, only the bad. He's always struck me as being well below par in key areas, and left a lot to be desired. I don't doubt that he was a very good keeper in his day, but I haven't ever seen that form from him in what's coming up on 4 years now.

Medical done and will sign today acc to Bayern.

Good luck Pepe. You were absolutly brilliant but the last few years makes me just say meh when you leave.
Flirting with other clubs and gone to shite and looking uninterested for 2 years.

After all the talk of Barca and finishing his career at A.Madrid it's funny how the options quickly dried up for Reina. Bayern are a great club but being second choice is shit no matter where you're at.

He's got a chance to add a Bundesliga title and maybe even another CL final to his CV. Better than Napoli if you are looking for medals not starts.

Their other back up keeper, Starke, has played 5 games in 2 years.

Pepe was a great keeper when interested. He got lazy without competition and looked to engineer a move away to Barca. Thats where I lost my respect for him. Glad to be rid of him.

Really lost his way in the last couple of years. Not sorry to see him go but he was brilliant in the Rafa years

Done deal! @PReina25 has just signed a contract: "I came here as I want to win as many trophies as possible without having to lift my finger." More to follow shortly..

He was one of the best keepers for us in his prime, but got long in the tooth with his more recent form and comments.

Might be in the minority, but I think Dudek at his best for us - before he mysteriously lost his confidence and went bad - was better than Reina at his best. And more classy as well.

Best keeper I've seen for us I reckon, but the meh attitude to his departure is a reflection of how people feel about him, after he sold himself for the last few years. Another potential legend who lost the respect of the fans.

Agree. Reina ended up having the better LFC career but IMO The Dude had the greater talent before it went to sh!te.

Glad to see I'm not in the minority of one!

Actually, I'd dispute the part about Reina having the better LFC career. I think in terms of individual accolades, as in clean sheet records, yes. In terms of honours won though, Reina had just a FA Cup and a League Cup to show for it. Dudek won everything with us

A toast to the Pole, in Reina's thread. Ha!

Also for the record, Clemence is still our best keeper in terms of the ratio of clean sheets to appearances. Reina is second, followed by Grobbelaar and Dudek.

I wonder how much of his wages we're paying for the next couple of years. I hope bayern are picking up the lions share as they've got a few quid.

Reina is a heartless bastard, and i for one am glad we acted in kind towards him.

Good luck slaphead.

I think it was that 'wrists like crisp packets' comment from Ian Wright that done his confidence in.

At his peak I thought Reina was level with Cech for best in England and top 5 in the world. He unfortunately is no longer at that level and his frequent unwelcome comments mean Im not sad to see him leave. That said he was a hell of a keeper and I wish him well.

Pepe Reina has written an open letter to Liverpool FC fans after sealing a switch to Bayern Munich.

Back in July last year, Reina wrote a first letter to supporters after moving to Napoli on loan. But tonight he has penned an "update" now his permanent departure has been confirmed. Headlined 'Once a Red Always a Red', the message from the former Liverpool keeper thanks fans for their support during his nine-year spell at Anfield.

He says: "I want to take the opportunity to thank everyone at Liverpool – and I mean everyone – for everything that they have done for me over years. "I have been extremely fortunate to spend so many years at what I consider to be one of the greatest clubs in world football. "It has been an honour and a privilege. The memories I have of Anfield, my team mates, the supporters and the people of Liverpool will stay with me forever." Reina adds: "It is always difficult to say goodbye to something that is special to you."

On his new chapter at Bayern, he says: "Hopefully I will enjoy being with them as much as I enjoyed being with Liverpool and again, I am fortunate to be going from one great club to another."

If he doesn't enjoy being there a sod of a lot more than he seemed to do at LFC latterly, this move is not going to work out.

Not saying Rodgers was the best manager he'd played under was his mistake last summer. That really seemed to piss Rodgers off. Anyway, at his best, Reina was excellent for us. I'm surprised how good Dudek has become since this thread started. If it goes on much longer he'll end up as one of the greats, rather than the no-better-than-decent keeper he was in real life.
