Reina to Barca ?

I'd sell in this order

masher
alonso
pepe

pepe would be hardest to replace, then xabi then masher. I also put the value of the players in that order as well, masher, alonso and then pepe.

mancini is excellent. maybe if rafa weren't on holiday we could have got him 😉. on a season loan is great business by zola

But he's also more limited (though that has made him the best around at what he DOES do). Replacing Xabi would be a monster assignment and I don't have an easy answer for your question, but at least there would be a certain number of playmakers out there to look at. How many other out-and-out DMs at all, let alone of the requisite quality, are there apart from Mascher now that Makelele's over the hill?
I'd happily take either Yaya Touré or Lassana Diarra in part-ex for Mascher, depending which big Spanish club we were selling him to. If anything, both those players are better passers than Mascher.

I can't think of anyone who could adequately replace Xabi, apart from maybe Xavi - and Barca are not gonna let *him* go.

I've never understood the obsession with Mancini on these boards, he's never been that great at all at any stage in his career, yes he can do stepovers, but..

Let's agree to differ, Bunny.  Lasagna Diarrhoea and Yaya Toure are both good players, but more box-to-box than Mascher.  Neither is as good as he defensively, and the latter is what makes Mascher such a vital part of our set-up. With either of those other two in there, a number of players around them would have to shoulder more of the midfield defensive burden and our overall balance just wouldn't be the same.

Well, I can't claim to watch Barca and Real every week, but to me it looks like Touré and Diarra do *exactly* the same job as Mascher does for us. If anything, they take on more of the defensive burden, because Liverpool have Xabi alongside Mascher who is also (contrary to his reputation) a very solid tackler. Not sure about Real, but Xavi and Iniesta definitely play higher up the pitch for Barca, and make fewer tackles.

Buying joe hart, young and english. He was being linked with one of the promoted sides for a permanent fee of 4/5 million.

Buy him and then loan him out, as united have done with Ben Foster.

Boa Morte or Mancini?

Good business by West Ham.

Why would City sell him for that little? Why would he join us just to be loaned out again? Why waste £5m on a player who won't even play for us next season?

This 'link' is purely to scare Valdes into signing a new contract.
My thought exactly. I really really hope we are right here.

Valdes is a liability and an obvious weakness in their team. Surely pep realises this. I would be very surprised if Reina left. He seems settled but I guess you never really know.

Valdes has improves massively over the last couple of seasons.

Valdes has a far inferior defence compared to the one which plays for us, which on one hand means he has many more opportunities to prove his ability, but on the other hand gives him many more opprtunities to falter.

From what I saw of him last season, he still flaps a hell of a lot at set pieces and makes the odd howler. He may have improved but imo he's still a weak link in Barcas team. Not that Im complaining I hope they keep him.

"We would send text messages to each other about the clean sheets. I told him [Petr Cech] I would swap all my clean sheets for his league titles"
- Pepe on his relationship with Petr Cech.

The bald geek.

I don't think so - he's always been a solid shot stopper, but he's error prone and his positioning at times is dreadful. He's not a bad keeper, but there's a lot more keepers I'd have over him that aren't in the Buffon/Reina/Casillas range.

Shit depressing rumour #3 can now be put to bed.

Valdes has agreed terms on 5 year extension.

Reina going nowhere. Eat.fact.

I don't rate Mancini either.

Sure he won the Serie A, but it was after Juventus and Milan were punished for the Calciopoli scandal.

It was a piss take really in the end, no one could ever challenge Inter after that.

And the best he's done in Europe is a quarter-final appearance.
