Even if I am as depressed as anyone by the season behind us leading to the black hole we are in, I am actually encouraged by our huge continent in the world cup. I think most of them has been good ambassadors for us, and they seem from a distance to show each other a good amount of repsect. Agger nd Kuyt aftr their clash i.e. Maxi and Zorba has been encouraged by the chance to play each other as well. Maybe not a big deal, but it is important that our players seem to be in a good mood and be proud of being each others temamates!

Yeh i think most of our players have handled themselves very well so far... they all look very proffesional and well drilled.

Torres has looked completely out of sorts though.

You think so? He got himself involved in a lot of chances yesterday... That his sharpness was a bit rusty was maybe expected. He aint nothing but Human?

perhaps im just a bit cynical as i expect so much from the lad. He was amazing in his first year for us. So good that i well and truely thought that he was the best striker in the world by some distance. At this time i was quite vocal with my friends about his quality and rubbed it in a fair bit. Because of injuries and fitness his form has been pretty average for over 6 months and i think im just eating a bit of humble pie..

i hope he hits form soon as i find it very hard to watch him struggle through games.

I reckon you're both right. Torres has taken a while to get to where he is now, but I was encouraged by the commitment he showed yesterday. What he needs now is a scruffy, scrappy goal to go in off his @rse or the back of his head or something - anything as long as his name's on the scoresheet. I have no doubt he'll kick on from there.

Ill be honest.. i missed most of the Honduras game as it was being shown at 4am here. How was his body language?

Against Switzerland he looked like a lost boy playing in a team completely unsuited to him. I think my biggest problem with him in the last year has been his body language. He just looks so defeated on the field.

He missed some real sitters against Honduras, but looked sharp as he created openings and movement for himself. t is hard to inerprete his body language, however he looked disbeliefed that he missed a open header, but all in all he was sharp.

As for Switzerland. Have you ever seen a team lying so deep desperate to close down another team. They won a match hey didnt even try to win....

I saw Villa' second and was a bit confused as to why he didnt play Torres in...

Made me think he must have missed a few during the game.

He looked focused to me. I didn't see any of that moping around which we'd had to endure from him at times, he didn't let his misses put him off trying, and his general leading of the line was excellent too.

And England are playing in an all red strip tomorrow. So we can all pretend it is Liverpool if we turn the commentary down.

If they play like they did last Friday they won't need the red kit.

Usually the World Cup tends to bugger up players for the next domestic season, but in Torres' case, looking for match fitness after his operation, it may act as a kind of pre-season training! 🙂

*applauds wildly*

Another thing if he only bags a few without ever hitting top gear there's a good reason the hype and transferrumours surrounding him will be kept at a minimum this Summer as well.
