Sod off Avy. Sorry you cannot keep things in perspective after a loss to the world's best team.

I don't think they're the world's best team ... I am not remotely upset about the loss - I barely watched the game (was playing footy, which was more fun!) ... When I see us so toothless up front - like we were against Soton too despite having our best striker - it just brings back memories of what we did last year ... So I hope we beat HUll - even if we need their defenders to help, but c'est la vie.

Honestly? I don't think we've fucked it up ... We haven't signed bad players, we just haven't played OUR game much this season ... What made us successful last year has barely been shown this year - was it ONLY Suarez that made us tick? If so, then we were bound to fail ... If not, then I still think we'll be ok ... Rodgers just has to go back to what was working ...
Honestly, I don't think it's Suarez alone. Of course he's a major factor.
Agger was better than many here gave him credit for. Like he himself said, look at the stats.
To a much lesser extent Lucks, who's been out of the team.
Also were playing without our second wonder striker from last season.
I think we'll improve when Sturridge is back, and I still think a Balotelli, Sturridge partnership could be lethal. Want proof? See the Spurs game.

Too many changes, that's probably it.

Who's better?

And I get being frustrated by how impotent we've been this season, but you're better than a couple of your posts tonight, mate... "Hope you're all happy..." shit is troll stuff - That's not like you.

Which of the players we have signed fill you with confidence then.

Cause I'm struggling to find one

I think STurridge Balo will work too ... but Balo may have cocked things up royally for himself if reports of him Sakhoing are true.

Lucas wasn't as key as you're making it out dude - and you know deep down inside that injuries have played their part ...

Agger couldn't do it anymore dude - he said it himself. He took less money to play back home at 29 ... Let it go ole chap, if he could do more - he'd have gone to a bigger team and played well there too.

I'm very curious to see how Rodgers handles the youngsters - especially Markovic - he's bought ...

A team with a shit keeper doesn't have the season we had last year. Academic, but let's set that straight.
We conceeded more than Palace.
A couple of goals less than Hull and West Ham.
Our finish last year had NOTHING to do with a decent keeper or back 4.
Hes a terrible goalkeeper.
I cant believe he plays for us.

I think Bayern and Barca are better TEAMS ... Real have the best attackers, but they don't have a defensive midfielder (they've not replaced what Xabi or Di Mario provided in the middle of the park), their defense is average at BEST and their goalie is past it ...

Sorry for trolling - it's just nights like these you want to have the stars who got you there ... and it's frustrating.

I think Manquillo and Moreno will be Spain's FBs for 7-8 years once they start there ...

I still have hope in Markovic -

I think Lovren can still return to the form he's shown at Soton & Lyon.

And I think with STudge, Balotelli will be far far better ...

I like Lallana too.

We started well and for 20 mins we looked like the team of last year, but then we took the foot of the pedal afterwards and allowed Real back into the game.

It's obvious we tired off after all that pressing, hustling and bustling. The difference with last year was that we had a striker who could finish off the chances when we pressed like a bunch of lunatics on acid. With us leading in front, teams would gradually open up and this would allow us to afford to recuperate. That's why Brodgers mentioned before that we burst and press in spurts at specific moments of the game - to save energy and knowing when to release them.

This year, we bust our guts but with no one to finish. Eventually we tire and fade and the pressing wanes. For an opposition team to beat us - all they have to do is defend well for the first 20-30 mins and then hit us on the counter, which was what Real did to brutal effect tonight.

WE NEED STUDGE BACK ASAP !

I agree with that, except Lovren was fairly average for Lyon.

Mignolet shit
Johnson shit
Skrtel shit
Lovren a bit shit
Moreno shit
Gerrard shit
Allen ok
Henderson shit
Coutinho very good
Sterling shit
Balotelli shit

Markovic shit
Can ok
Lallana a bit shit

Those are rubbish ratings Oncy.

We certainly need a Sami like presence in the middle at the back. Someone to command the area.

We're missing one more match winner - after Sturridge returns. Reus would obviously be sensational but our strength last year was down to having so many players who could suddenly step in with a match winning display. It was nigh on impossible to contain them all. This year Sterling has had to do the job of Suarez, Coutinho has had to do the job of Sturridge, Lallana has had to do the job of Sterling and Markovic has had to do the job of Coutinho.

Anything remains possible but some players need to make a leap forward very quickly.

Those ratings are spot on.

We terribly missed a top class striker tonight. We made life easy for them because they hardly had to defend, and could attack with numbers. And they have wonderful attackers. If we had someone like Suarez or Sturridge up front who could be a threat to them things might have looked different.
They are a wonderful team. They scored 4 in Munich last season, and there are only a few teams who are a match for them.
We need to improve. Definitely.
Getting a top striker in January is a must. If we cannot get a world class striker, I'd like to see us sign Berahino.
Jognson should not start for us. Manquillo and Moreno are the way forward.
Gerrard cannot play ALL our games. He must share the load, and I think this will make his contribution to the side much more significant (when he plays).
I guess all the rest has been said already...

Just to offer a bit of perspective, we were great in the first 20 minutes...very similar to what we saw so often last season. If we'd scored in that period i doubt we would have gone on to get turned over as we did. So we lost to the best side in Europe who, according to their manager, put in their best performance of their season so far. But there are fine margins and IF we'd got that first goal, who knows?

Now, let's talk about Suarez. And Rafa.

Well at least you're all taking it in your stride!

I think most were resigned to that result , (maybe even expecting worse) before the match even started Peter. People may argue whether or not RM are currently the best is the world, but it was always on the cards for a team that struggled to beat QPR, indeed have struggled for every point they have won this season, bar Spurs.

You've not liked what you've seen from Lallana? Or either of the new FBs?

Lallana neat and tidy is a decent player. Is he top class I'm not too sure.
The two fulls have looked good at times going forward which can somewhat cloud peoples judgement, defensively have they improved us ? Markovic and Ballotelli look awful signings.

I cannot see how are going to improve defensively,if you look tonight we never won a first ball coming into either box and we were slow to react to any second ball, last season we had great stats from set-pieces and always looked a threat. Its so disappointing that we are so weak at either end of pitch!!:-(

Well this thread doesn't read like people were resigned!! Or even somewhat realistic.

What we see in Europe now is 4 or 5 just incredibly strong sides, better than any national team, who are all capable of hammering the rest on a given day. Look at what Bayern did to a very decent Roma side last night.

That has to be recognised before we even attempt to analyse tonight's match.
