The world's best natural full-back in his age group?

What the fuck does that even mean, you drooling fucking lunatic?

How can anyone have that opinion about Insua after watching last season's laughablely shit, fat-arsed spasticry?

I'm not going to abuse people or anything, just to have a look through some of the threads.
It sounds like a fun place.

That is your second 'Stulikes' gag in two days! Go for the hat-trick sure!

He's not one of these 'unnatural' players who has been artificially enhanced by fitness conditioning and so forth.

Note to self, must try harder.

In RAWK in their Mascherano thread they are convincing themselves he's not that good and (of course) not as good as Lucas anyway (thank God no-one is offering 25 m to prise that gem from us). In the latest installment, someone was saying that Mascher couldn't replace Busquets, because Busquets was a better player. The immediate response with no hint of irony was

Lucas would be a more appropriate replacement for Busquets

They are a crazy bunch.

And by crazy I mean a bunch of complete window lickers.

Has anyone asked then to explain how come Masher is a £25 million rated captain of his country and his Lucas is a £3-5 million target for Palermo?

They'd still say the rest of the football world is mad, not them. Is it the "Times" or the "Torygraph" which is said to have run a headline once that read: "Fog Over Channel - Continent Isolated"? Sums them up, that does.

I'll be honest and admit I don't go on RAWK, but are the 'hardcore' mentalists on there match-going Scousers, or the worst kind of try-hard superfan?

Because nobody I know in real life who I would describe as 'match-going' or scouse - or a lapsed version of either - has any other opinion about Lucas other than 'shit'

And they're so fucking humourless

So it isn't a hardcore match-going scouse thing is it?

They really do seem like...I dunno...fucking *nerds*

Like the super-keen anorak who HAS to know every song and chant word-perfect, but could just as easily have been a trainspotter as a Liverpool fan

i think there are plenty of proper fans on there: SOS seems to have a major presence, with all their petitions etc appearing prominently, and there are lots who seem to follow the youth teams and reserves first hand.

plus, as i've said before, there are absolutely LOADS of them. just by sheer numbers, you'd have to think that site offers a far more representative sample of liverpool fans than this one: they must have AT LEAST 20 times more members than us.

It gets some traffic. Reminds me of church in black and white. Some raging Irish paedo preaching armageddon in Latin.
Some of the guys are genuine season ticket holders but most of them are bandwagon jumping twats.
I left 4 weeks ago because I had this Welsh guy who pm'd me almost everyday insisting that I join SoS and buy the Standard Corrupted shirt.
I eventually placed an order for the shirt just for the sake of it but a few weeks later I got this big long e-mail from the same guy claiming that it was fans like me that was destroying the club that they supposedly love.
He finished his e-mail with the sentence'Apathy is killling LFC I'm working for you but what are you doing?
Packed me bags and left the site after that.

That's my impression

I don't think they're representative at all, based on the shit I've read
but i'm just talking from a purely statistical angle, in which case that's a lot of unrepresentative people they're attracting then isn't it? i just checked the site and it's got 746 users online - i think we've got about 20-30 or so!

I'm fucking torn. On the one hand I do love the passion and endeavour when fans *know* something is shit, and try and do something about it, so I try not to sneer too much

But Christ, you'd need to have a will made of titanium not to at least have the occasional cynical snigger

Ah well

I'd be willing to bet there are a lot more LFC fans that don't visit forums than there are ones that do. I've yet to meet anyone who thinks Lucas is decent.

The only people that seemingly do really rate Lucas are the same ones that carry SOS memberships and who proclaimed the world was going to end when we sacked Benitez. They tend to also rate Insua as a future world class full back.

Tompkins-esque really.

I suppose it's like most things: context is required.

It's like when you like a certain artist, musician, TV show, comic, designer or whatever.

You have a spare few minutes. You google a relevant website and have a look at the messageboards. And there they are: the fucking hard-core loons; berating newcomers; whining about irrelevant minutia; taking everything so seriously they appear to be mentally ill

And all the enthusiasm you might have had is sucked out of you

That's where context, humour and the word 'cunt' are so invaluable

hmmm, i see what you're saying, and i used to think the same thing, but i'm not so sure anymore. i always used to assume that proper scouse kopites would never be seen dead on internet forums, but occasionally i'll see fans interviewed on on LFC tv - proper, working-class scouse fans, not the kind of weirdo freaks that SSN always manage to find prowling around outside anfield - and they always harp on about what they see on the 'forums an' tha''

i'm not sure there's a section of society too old-fashioned for the internet to have infiltrated.

Forum lunacy can be found anywhere. The worst, bitchiest, most acidulous forum that I've ever been on was devoted to the music of Mozart, and it had all the drawbacks folk have identified in this thread, plus a sickening extra dash of @rse-licking from some when one particular distinguished but extremely rude musicologist "graced" us with his presence. I and another poster objected to his snootiness and were rounded on by a slavering minority of his sycophants. I can't deny that some of those exchanges were entertaining to take part in, but it was a bit sad when all was said and done.

There's quite a few 'proper scouse kopites' on this site
me included. i used to live on smithdown road, and would 'ead over to the local for me scran most nights.

The only thing I have ever checked out on RAWK is their Photo Shop thread, I never have looked at any other threads, and based on the comments posted here, am not going to start now.

There'll come a day when the social networking or fanforum site that you use to discuss your club will define you as much as the identity of the club of the place itself. We'll be chanting at each other from different parts of the stadium.

I can see it now. A kid going to his first game with his Dad.

"Dad, who are those fans in that section over there, singing that song about Lucas and with all the Rafa banners?"

"That's the RAWK section son".

"And why do they all have metal wands coming from their foreheads?"

"No one knows son, it's just always been that way."
