I don't agree with the implication behind that bolded bit, not as a general statement. Written communication would be impossible without some common standards to work to. Even the Quadraspazzes of this world need them as a backdrop to their colloquialisms.
That said, I don't have a problem with our resident Quadraspaz's style. It's part of the rich tapestry that is 6CM. 8)

The thing about Spazzy is that he uses common standards enough to bracket his clearly articulated Scouse-ness, and this, apart from his natural wit, is why it works so well.
If it was all scally and no literary talent, then it wouldn't work.
