I hate the fact that so few of our players can receive the ball under pressure, turn and look for a pass. We wasted so many good openings by having to go back tonight - it's fucking frustrating.

Reina, Masher, Agger and Babel were the pick of the bunch tonight.

Not sure why Lucas is getting so many high marks. Otherwise agree with the general drift. I thought Reina was our MotM.

How many times did we push the ball back? I lost count ... It was infuriating to watch ... It's as if we were playing (like Lyon definitely) were for a draw.

Dossena - rating for Yossi was too high. He really went missing most of the game today. Big let down.

I though he was quite good.

His passing was 99% accurate. He showed for the ball. He put in some very good challenges. He nearly scored.

His passing was 99% sideways. As for the challenges, I just remember that non-challenge he made on Gomis, where he basically ushered him into miles of space in front of our defence so he could have a shot from distance. It was naive in the extreme.

He cant pass forward if there is nobody available to pass to.

Lucas and Mascherano always pass it sideways or backwards then they rely on Kuyt and his awful touch to do something out wide

that's why it looks shit and has for weeks and until Aquilani or Gerrard gets back it wont change

infact he should have sent Aquilani on today, there was nothing to lose. we may have played some long passes and got in behind them for once

Nope.

There were a few good passes to Kuyt and Benayoun. You may have just turned a blind eye.

He was pretty good.

yeah Lucas does the pass out wide to Kuyt who then mis controls it and watches it bounce away

that's the problem and isnt going to change until the midfielders change, players like Aquilani and Gerrard look for the striker and ignore Kuyt

You can't really blame Lucas for Kuyt's mis-controls.

Gerrard passes the ball to Kuyt loads of times.

You're talking absolute rubbish.

We needed one of them to come through with a big performance ... Both had few moments and never really 'dominated' ...

Gerrard/Alonso (and I suspect Aquilani) can thread the ball through the final third for the striker and does it often, that's what we miss

Lucas tries but he can't do it, so most of his passes are simple wide ones. Mascherano is also very limited when on the ball and there was about 5 times a half where he receives it and is asked to do something with it and he ends up passing it sideways, backwards or wide. none of them run or look for a through ball or even shoot, well Masher shoots but hes' crap at that too

Doesn't make sense. I didn't see the game.

The job of Masher and Lucas is to protect that back four and also link our forward. If our forwards and defenders were so poor then how come the two of them get an 8?

Alonso was very good at dictating the play. But threading through balls I'm not sure was ever his specialty.

Of course you could bring up the youtube vid of the game v Sunderland when Garcia scored two goals, but that's the exception rather than the rule.

Gerrard was out injured, and Aquilani (I suspect) isn't fit.

I thought Lucas played well for Lucas. That means average, maybe slighly higher.

Mascher was a beast.

What about the letting it bounce then ineptly cushioning a header onto their striker's foot?

True, but at the same time I thought Agger could have done more to a) shield, b) let him know what was going on around him, and c) get in Lopez' way.

Shite defending all round.

Lopez was giving Agger problems all night, they were pretty good on the break. Babel? Great goal, but he summed himself up in the two moments that followed, belting that freekick out for a throw in and then the close range shot, where a bit of composure would have seen him bag a brace.

Stunning, stunning goal though and miles better than anything Voronin would have offered, ever.

Some of the ratings for Lucarse are, frankly, laughable

It's almost like you have all forgotten what a Liverpool midfielder looks like

We have Masher doing the dirty workan tackling and short passing

What the fuck is Lucas there for? What the fuck is the point of the useless twat?

He has a deleterious effect on the entire team; masher tries to do things he isn't capable of, the defence don't bother passing because they get it right back, and the attack never see the ball because his passing is shit

[/quote]And twice getting turned on the halfway line and pulling down his opponent and feigning injury.
It was a fucking awful performance.

I've never seen such a disparate set of ratings before and by-and-large I disagree with most of them, particularly some low mark for Yossi who, although his creative attempts proved fruitless on the night he; always showed for the ball, always tried something inventive and seemed to take on the Gerrard mantle.

Reina 8 - Looked assured and a few good saves.

Carra 7 - Steady
Kyriakos 6 - Would have been a 7 but for his poor efforts for their goal
Agger 8 - He looked in control for most of the game and brought the ball out of defence in a way that none of our other CB's can
Insua 6 - Good early start with some good balls into their area but defensively still dodgy and very, very slow.

Benayoun 7 - Always tried to lead by example, tried many things that on another day could have worked.
Mascherano 8 - MOM, dominated their midfield.
Lucas 6 - Since when does he start getting 7's and 8's just for not playing his usual shite. He was average.
Kuyt 5 - 100% for effort but gave us no width, goal-threat, creativity etc.

Voronin 3 - *Cries*
Torres 6 - He looked up for it but given very little service.

Lucas is there because we don't have better, currently. His role is far too similar to Masher's and it does have a negative effect on our attacking play. Of course, none of this is his fault - it's the manager's.

I've been very critical of Lucas this season but he was decent yesterday. He made some very important interceptions and put himself about well. You are clearly blinded by your hatred for him.

Voronin and Greek doesn't deserve a rating under their name. Horrendous fucking display last night.

Reina (7). A couple of very smart saves, no chance with the goal

Carra (6). Did his job and tried his best to organise a defence with two hapless cunts in it.

Agger (7). Carried Zorba all game, which isn't really fair on him. Not great for the goal, but again he wasn't the only culpable one.

Zorba (3). Fuck off.

Insua (4). Ball-watching, slow-as-fuck, defensively inept. A liability all season.

Masher (7). MOTM. Busy, some great tackles and used the ball well. Did not deserve to lose.

Lucarse (5). Unusually good by his standards. Still offered virtually fuck all in attack, was bypassed too often, and can't lift the team ever. But no howling errors and actually had a shot. Well done.

Kuyt (5). Not having a great time of it. Couple of decent efforts, but largely ordinary.

Casper (4). Didn't do anything of note. Unsurprising really, because he is an inconsistent squad player.

Voronin (3). Fuck off.

Torres (5). Not fit, and didn't have many chances.
