Webb was fine but for that gigantic horrendous wrong desicion. Would it have changed the game? Who knows, but we would have been in a much much better position.

It was shocking from someone who is supposed to be a top International ref

What decision? If you're referring to the Sterling incident it wasn't a foul.

Gerrard had a bad game and gave away the ball for their goal, but the goal wan't Gerrard's fault at all.
He gave it away in the final third ffs.
We're shaped to be so damn vulnerable to counter attacks, it's unreal.
Either that's the manager's fault, or the positioning and repositioning of players tasked to cover the fellas at the back.
Center backs were far too far apart for that goal as well.

Suarez and Mertesacker in the 50 odd minute. They've showed the replay 10 times in the studio and noone can believe he didnt give a penalty. Both hands on his shoulders and then holding him back.
Ridiculous.

it was a slight pull but Suarez went down like he was dying, the overreaction was probably what made the ref dismiss it entirely

Except for the diabolical call on Mertesacker & Suarez.

Nonsense. Suarez dived. Funnily enough, if he'd dived sooner, he might have got the penalty, but he delayed it and made it too obvious. Coupled with the fact that he'd been throwing himself to the floor at every opportunity, it's hardly surprising it wasn't given.

Whilst I don't agree with the ref being a huge issue. How Suarez reacted is irrelevant. it's either a foul or it wasn't. Whether he stayed on his feet, or beat that ginger British chap to a long jump Olympic gold, it doesn't matter.

It was a foul. But we were shit, so oh well.

He was diving all match. Early on he got a nudge in the back and his left ankle flew up as if it had been kicked. He's going to be suspended for so many games he's a liability.

I I thought rodgers wasn't going by pick players on reputation

Gerrard has been shite for a while and could have justifiably been dropped.

Allen, shelvey + gerrard/sahin should have been the midfield

Reina 4
Johnson 6
Skrtel 6
Agger 6
Enrique 5
Allen 8
Gerrard 4
Sahin 6
Sterling 8
Borini 5
Suarez 5

Shelvey 7
Downing 6

Gerrard deserves to be dropped.

Couple of points.

Firstly, suarez, well off form & dived constantly, had he not have we may have got that pen.

Secondly, Gerrard is a liability, as I keep saying, rest him every third game.

Thirdly, Allen was great, however, he was at fault for their first goal. He didn't track back so their midfielder (forgot who) had a free run on goal. Watch it again.

My thoughts:
Reina 4.5 - difficult shot from Podolski, but top keepers usually save those. At fault for 2nd goal. Poor distribution. Where is the Pepe we know and love? He looked so down on himself after the 2nd goal, he knows something is wrong.
Johnson 6 - I liked how far he pushed up in the 1st half - Dani Alves like. Not sure why from the start of the 2nd half he dropped deep on the same level as Agger and Skrtel. Did Rodgers tell him to? Big mistake if so, we lost an outlet on the right, Borini couldn't do anything by himself and Arsenal started dominating possession.
Skrtel 6 - decent game.
Agger 6 - should have scored from a corner in the first half. He was completely unmarked, did he take his eye off the ball?
Enrique 6.5 - he might be a little too creative for a fullback. But today his tendency to dribble inside our own half didn't backfire. Liked his energy.
Allen 6.5 - he is kind of wasted in the Lucas role, he should play further up the field. He made a few passing mistakes, uncharacteristically, but he was fighting Arsenal midfield almost all alone. At the moment he is our only midfield player who can receive a ball under pressure and not lose it.
Sahin 4 - a non-factor. Played incredibly conservatively, only going for the simple pass, almost no forward passes. Whether it's getting settled in the team, or adjusting to the speed of the Premiership or physical condition, he looked far from comfortable and contributed almost nothing.
Gerrard 4 - where Sahin was too conservative, Gerrard was the opposite: tried to do too much, too soon. It's hard to establish any flow in possession when one of the midfielders tried hollywood balls all the time. On today's evidence Gerrard is simply not patient enough to be one of the central 3 in Brendan's system. But he also doesn't seem to have the same burst of speed any more, so unless this improves, he will not be effective in attack either. This is a big problem for Rodgers. You can get rid of Hollywood-ball Adam, but what do you do if your captain and legend is undermining the system? Oh, and one more thing. That tackle against Vermaelen was ugly and unnecessary.
Borini 4.5 - once again, he looked a bit shit, didn't he? Just doesn't have the technique or creativity to play on the wing. Maybe he is a poacher. I don't see much else.
Suarez 6 - the usual. Tries hard, creates chances, misses them. Falls over in the penalty area, refs don't buy it because of his reputation.
Sterling 7 - much quieter in the 2nd half, otherwise it would be at least 8. He is 17 and looked our best player. Love his ability to shield the ball effectively with his torso (unusual for a young player), his anticipation, energy and quick thinking.
Subs:
Downing 6. Better than Borini, but no end product as usual. To be fair, it was tough to change the game in these circumstances. Still, to think that Downing might be our best option on the RW is fucking depressing. Rodgers can forget about converting him to LB, now he simply doesn't have enough people to fill the front 3.
Shelvey 6. I wanted him to come on for either Sahin or Gerrard for the 2nd half. He is more suited to the system than Gerrard and more integrated into the team than Sahin. Played OK, got his usual yellow card.

Rodgers - he tried to beat Arsenal at their own game, but it was impossible because they are better at their game than we are and we couldn't challenge them with a plan B (Andy Carroll is in London now, although some of our players still apparently believed Big Andy was standing somewhere in the Arsenal penalty area, judging by their crosses). Taking a long view, maybe it's better without a plan B because we don't have a working plan A either, so we need to focus on getting that right first. It's a tough road ahead, I wish him luck and optimism, no matter how difficult it gets.

Nope sorry absolutely, categorically, wrong (except the diving bit). Whether he dives or not should be irrelevant as far as the referee is concerned. Mertesacker knew he couldn't get there ahead of Suarez and had hold of his shirt for a good 5 yds, Suarez dived when it became obvious that the pulling back was going to prevent him getting to the ball. The foul should have been punished with a penalty and a 2nd yellow for Mertesacker.

Despite this assertion you are clearly wrong and were shot down in flames by just about everyone on here last time you said this.

That said he was absolute shite on Sunday. Maybe being dropped for a match will help focus the mind and energise the body.

If someone throws themselves to the ground at every opportunity, then it's hardly surprising when a 50-50 decision doesn't go their way. Besides, the contact with Suarez was minimal - he wasn't getting there, and for someone who dives as frequently as he does, you'd think he'd be a bit better at it by now.

Forgive me, but I think the hard done by routine got old about 10 years ago. We just weren't good enough.

But whatever, it's done now.

Agger 6 - should have scored from a corner in the first half. He was completely unmarked, did he take his eye off the ball?

It's not the first time he's done that, in fairness. I think he must be overestimating the size of his forehead, because he quite frequently glances the ball when he should be getting more on it. Hopefully some forehead awareness training will fix that.

Except it was nothing like 50-50. Though I think you are right, I don't think he needed to throw himself to the ground at all, just stop and turn around showing he was having his shirt pulled may have won the pen. since it was that obvious. His antics probably cost us more pens that they win.
