Ratings vs Birmingham

Status
Not open for further replies.
Reina - 7
Flannal - 7
Carra- 6
Skrtel -7
Robinson -8
Lucas - 9
Jay - 7
Raul - 8 (He went in for some great tackles)
Maxi- 8
Suarez - 8
Kuyt - 6

Reina - 7; Not sure how to score Reina. He had almost nothing to do but anything he did have to do he did well. His distribution was good as well. Clean sheet.

Flannagan - 7.5; I like his tackling and gusto. Not the most polished but he's a kid and has to be given some time. He got caught out maybe twice and a couple of poor passes but otherwise he shut down everything.

Carra - 6.5; Was wondering how he'd come back after last week but didn't seem to show any symptoms of the clash - except he wasn't quite so quick to give someone a bollocking.

Skrtel - 7.5; Sixmonths ago I wouldn't or couldn't have imagined giving him a better rating than Carra but he was great at the back. Looked composed, tough, fast and in the right position. Gave Robinson the one talking to he needed and came out of defence nicely too.

Robinson - 7.5; I like the look of this guy. He's not as quick as the fastest out there but he reads it pretty well and he's quick enough. I think he's going to be very good.

Lucas - 8.5; Someone correct me but I think he gave away one free kick. Completed countless tackles, seemed to intercept everything, showed some strength to move opponents off the ball, passed it beautifully and was the main reason that Raul had so much freedom to wander everywhere. Almost looked to have picked up an injury at one point which hinted he wasn't really Lucas but then ran it off.

Jay - 7.5; Was pretty close to getting an 8 but wasn't at the level of previous weeks. He started badly with a terrible pass to an opponent in a bad position but is such a terrier with the aggro that must have opponents a little edgy. Also passed it better as the game went on and set up the first goal with a stinging shot for Maxi to get the rebound.

Raul - 8; I thought he was really good. Provided the freedom to show up anywhere and he seemed to find space every time. Thought he could have used it better on a couple of occasions but he was a constant threat and looks a good partner for Suarez.

Maxi - 8; I really struggled to give him a better rating than Spearing. Scored three goals but probably touched the ball about 8 times. End product was outstanding but he did almost nothing else. I could be disuaded from giving him an 8 fairly easily.

Suarez - 8; Needs a goal. Beginning to look as though he's ignoring everything else in search of it at the moment but a ripper of a cross for Maxi and his movement; dribbling; vision are a constant menace for the opposition.

Kuyt - 7.5; I'll warrant that was as hard and fast as Dirk has run all season. He didn't go 3/4 pace for anything, scored a good goal and basically did the work of two men up front which again allowed Raul the freedom to go anywhere, anytime.

Top post, analysis and all. Think youre being too generous though or I might be the one being harsh.

Reina 7 - Not the busiest afternoon he has ever had, bizarely chose to punch a couple towards the end when he didnt need to but a clean sheet is a clean sheet

Flanagan 6 - Defended really well and offered support going forward, his distribiution was poor but you cant have everything from a 17 year old
Robinson 7 - Picked up a rash booking but otherwise it has to be said this kid looks the business, quick aggressive and mostly pretty composed. Of the two youngsters I think hes probably the better prospect
Carra 7 - Normal service resumed despite the concussion. Marshalled the line supported the younger players and passed eraticaly
Skrtel 8 - Hes playing as well as at any time in his Liverpool career. Perhaps being a senior player alongside the more inexperienced fullbacks has given him confidence, knowing his place is safe from Aggger til next August probably helps too

Spearing 6 - Didnt think he offered a lot today, he is tenacious but he doesnt bring much else to the party
Lucas 8 - Its hard to overshadow a guy who scores a hatrick but Lucas came close, over the 90 he was our best player today, he was everywhere snapping into tackles linking the play and pushing on to support the attcking players
Meireles 7 - A bit off colour in the first half but when the space opened up in the second half he grew into the game. A really intelligent midfielder, worked his socks off today

Suarez 8 - Deserved a goal but it just didnt come, he wasted a few decent oppurtunities but its no exageration to say that his overall play was the driving force for us creatively, he will get better and better
Maxi 8 - MOM - Im not a fan but he was in the right place at the right time today so fair play to him. Nice to see him play with a bit of conviction, seemed to be really enjoying himself out there
Kuyt 7 - Another game another goal, hes become the personification of our revivial under Dalglish

Subs:
Shelvey 7 - Its easy to forget hes only 19 given his physique and the amount of times we have seen him already. A 19 year old right footed central midfielder thrown on at left back not only didnt get embarassed but got forward and created a chance for Kuyt that he really should have done better with, what else do you want? This kid doesnt look out of his depth in the first team and I think he has a big future for us
Cole - 6 - you know a guys career is in trouble when hes embarassed to score his first goal in the league
Ngog -N/A -dont remember him touching the ball

Dalglish 9 - Given the numbers missing this looked like a potetntital banana skin against a team we have a surprisingly poor record with. Dispatched in style with a minimum of fuss and the peripheral squad memebers looking like more than just jersey fillers, nicely player sir. If he can keep the momentum going with 2 wins ahead of the Spurs game then we will be in a fine position

Wow, Modo, those are pretty harsh ratings. I thought the whole team played really well. Maxi was one of our least outstanding players - and he scored a hat-trick!
I don't know, I try to look beyond the scoreline. The game was boring at times, we kept losing possession of the ball and our passing was generally average.
Three of our goals were the result of long balls from our own half and the last goal was a counter-attack. What I'm trying to say is that Birmingham were really, really poor defensively.

I don't want to be mean towards Flanno and Robbo considering their age and inexperience. I want to judge the players fairly and in doing so I'm comparing our young fullbacks to how our first choice fullbacks are expected to play. With that in mind they definitely didn't deserve a rating above 6.

I can't give a player that just scored a hat-trick a rating below 8. He was in the right place at the right time three times during the game and that counts.
That's ridiculously critical, like the commentator who said during the game, "it's hardly a five star performance".

We snotted them with a patchwork side.

I thought Lucas had an excellent game but Spearing, and 'what he brings to the party' seems to be woefully underrated on here. The fact is that whilst both Lucas and he are recycling the ball and keeping it ticking when we have the ball and closing down the oppo when they have it, Spearing is also bringing an attacking danger that Lucas isn't. As instances, his shot resulted in the first goal (certainly a welcome addition to the party, I'd have thought), and he hit a beautifully weighted slide-rule pass through to Ming near the end that could easily have resulted in a sixth. Yes, he hits more intercepted passes than Lucas, but he is attempting to be more ambitious with the ball than Lucas. I thought Spearing had another great game.

Agreed. Spearing has been key to our recent form IMO. Not only does he offer the energy in midfield we've missed since Mascher left, he's also a very underrated passer. His passing is quicker and has more zing to it than Lucas'.

So Lucas was excellent again and is turning into a quality performer? Just who would have thought that possible.

It's days like this I wish Brendan was still on here.

Almost.

Did you see the game? I'd really appreciate your view on the game.
Cause I don't think I was being overly critical in my assessment.

If I was to start hacking your leg with a pen knife just below the knee. And making you suffer such horrific pain for hours upon hours. Then after your leg inevitably severed, I continued hacking away. Would you think that because you could no longer feel the pain that dantes had improved his hacking technique to the extent that you should praise it?

I'm slowly starting to accept that. Not long before I start writing the opposite of what I think.
no... he wasn't.... he went missing quite a bit in the second half. he did well, hence my 7, but not fantastic.

Can't agree popcorn man!

Fabio's wronger than incest. How many chances of assisting a goal was Lucas involved in? I'm not saying this is his prime role, but Spearing was involved in one goal, and several more near chances. He is proving a good partner for Lucas precisely because he is more ambitious in his play.

lucas is a quality perfomer because thanks to him and a few others, we are now competing for 5th/6th/avoiding relgation. in those circumstances a good performance is to win your home games and not get beat away. so lucas is performing at that level. if you ask anymore of him then he becomes a liability

I honestly think that Meireles is one the biggest reasons for our comeback. He more or less won us 4 games since Dalglish took over.
