Rafa's Interview with The Times: Part 2

Status
Not open for further replies.
From what I've gathered, Rosco is effectively saying Rafa knew he could spend what he raised from sales, i.e having control of a small budget. The bottom line is we don't know either way if more funds were promised and then taken away, but it's clear the initial outlook is more probable. I think he was promised funds when he signed his new contract but when the summer rolled around, they had to be significantly reduced; however he still knew where he stood. He may have been 'tricked' into a new contract as it were - a contract he was fortunate to receive - but I believe he knew Johnson and Aquilani would be his only signings this summer and prioritised the pair of them.

I haven't disagreed with anything Ross has said in this thread, and I've got no agenda against Benitez.

Well given we had our best season in the league I think you've got to credit Parry for not allowing the sale of Alonso on the cheap and buying Barry to play him out of position.

We'd have been worse last season had Rafa got his wish, and we're worse this year because he did.

Rosco, this is pure speculation or educated guess as you put it.

It could have gone our way IF Barry came in 08 and we could have been better at the beginning of this season. We will never know.

We have argued till our face is blue regarding the sale of Alonso, as to whose fault it is.

I have entered this discussion late, so just my tuppence worth.

So, let's get this straight - "he was in full control this summer" despite there not being "anything to spend".

Rrrrrriiiiight.
You've lost me Ryan.

I think you're completely misunderstanding me. Deliberately.
no Ross, I'm simply pointint out the gaping holes in your flawed argument. "He had full control this summer" yet didn't "have anything to spend".

How was that full control?

I might use that argument with my missus. 'Honey, I'm in full control of purchasing your Xmas present. I've got no momeny like, but I'm still in full control of the situation. Would you like an Andriy Voronin in a box?'
I've explained it to you Ryan - but once again, because you're being even more tedious than me, Rafa Benitez was given control of the buying and selling of players because nobody would second guess him and veto a deal like happened the previous summer (for our benefit).
Ross, if you're argument wasn't so weak, I wouldn't need to be "an arse about it". I think you've recognised the holes in what you've put forward, hence your backtracking. It's clear Rafa wasn't in full control, hence the majority of the 30M going straight into paying off the fucking debt.

Why haven't you addressed the comment I made about not being impartial towards Benitez? You seem happy to give Rick fucking Parry undeserved credit.

You can debate with the best of them Ross, but you're continued one-eyed rants about Benitez are making you look idiotic.
The reason I'm "backtracking" as you put it is because you are constantly misunderstanding me to suit yourself. You're well aware of what I meant, but because you have not been able to rebut any single piece of evidence I've put forward you've tried to drag this down to a simple twisting of the meaning.

I haven't answered your questions because you haven't got the courtesy to answer any of mine. Which is typical of you and it's why I don't generally get into debates with you. You're not capable of discussing things without trying to twist meanings, adding in snide comments in some sort of effort to win an argument. It's exactly this sort of nonsense we're trying to cut out on the forum, and really when I have to put up with this shite why should I bother posting out my full thoughts ? If I thought you were going to take things on board I'd go to the trouble of responding to you properly , like I did with Farkmaster. All you're going to do is focus on one tiny little aspect and repeat it over and over until I get fed up and go to bed. Then you'll claim victory when all you've done is annoy the fucking hell out of me. You haven't put a single decent argument together in the thread.

So here you go - am I impartial when it comes to Rafa ? Yes. To briefly summarise why ...... I think he's a manager who's philosophy on football is all wrong. He is unable to build and keep a squad happy. He is extremely wasteful with the resources he's been given. I think we'd be better off without him in the short and long term. I think Steven Gerrard and luck are the reasons why we won trophies and I think Rafa is a better manager when he has fewer choices to make because he tends to overcomplicate things.

Do you want to go back and answer my questions ?

Rick Parry refused to sanction a deal for Alonso at a cut price, that's the reason Xabi was with us last season. Xabi was excellent for us last season. Hence I'm glad Rick Parry refused to sanction the deal, and I think it's deserving of credit. He acted on what he thought was best for the club, he turned out to be right and he got sacked ultimately because of it.
Really Ross, you were giving it the big one just before threatening people with warnings in accrodance with "the forum's new principles" then you go ahead and attack me in exactly the same manner.

1 - You're flip-flopping about like mad. It's hard to actually construe what your main point is that there's that fucking many of them. 'He is in control, but not of the budget, he didn't have money to spend, and he should have known that blah blah blah' and then a whole fucking heap of opinions dressed up as facts; "he's lost the dressing room" - Would you like me to c & p all ou current footballers claiming this to be shit? What about yesterday's "He picked Kewell over Didi" effort? We won that Champions League Final, due in no small part to Benitez, yet you're so fucking wound up by him you can't see the wood for the trees. "He's relying on Gerrard and luck" - Yes Ross, despite the fact we played most of last season without our two best players playing togethor, we still amassed more points than we've ever done in a League campaign. All down to luck I'm sure. "His philiosophy on football is all wrong" - what does that even mean? He's won every trophy in the game bar the Premier League. Fuck I could go on.

2 - Is it irritating you that just about everyone's lining up to point out you've been a bit quackers of late?

Your Honour, I would like to move for a change of venue. A new stadium, likes? Also I question the competency of counsel.

Everyone else in the thread seems to understand what I'm saying, is it really that hard for you to understand ? I haven't flip flopped at all, I've tried to clear up a misunderstanding you're having but you don't seem to want to listen.

Again you've failed to discuss any of the points I've made in the thread, rather pretty much confirming that what I posted about you is absolutely spot on. All you've done is commentate on how you think this thread is going, you've got no arguments with anything I've actually said. You're only response is to make up an argument you think I've made and argue against it and then have a pop at me.

Ryan it's been pretty clear you don't understand the posting principles, since you somehow thought it wasn't okay to call Lassana Diarra a cunt. So in that respect it's probably best not to talk about them.

One of the other things actually that was suggested by some of the lads recently was that we wouldn't put up with any questioning of moderator decisions and that anyone who was constantly niggling at someone would get a ban.

In that regard you'll have no trouble understanding if you end up with a day off very soon.

We have no way of knowing what happened and all you are trying to do is ask people to speculate further. It's pointless. For all we know, it might have been Rafa that valued Alonso at 15M (or whatever it was) at the start of the summer, it might have been a joint decision... who knows.

You and I know Alonso wanted to go. How can anyone stop a player from wanting to leave? We can only hold on to a player up to a certain extend, like Ferguson tried for a couple of years regarding Christiano.

Rafa tried to stop Alonso from leaving before the beginning of this season. When the team was on tour in the far east, there was an interview which he said he spoke with Alonso asking him to stay. But there was only silence from Xabi, that despite all the pleading of the fans over here for him to stay. That much we know from available published materials and my personal observations while the team was in Singapore.

How can you speculate otherwise, bringing in Parry etc. For debates, you know more than anyone of us what is admissible or not, not conjectures or speculations.

Sorry to respond to just a part of your post but I'll leave others to debate the rest.

On the above though whether Parry deserves credit or not for keeping Xabi is debatable but hindsight tells us Xabi got a rude shock when he realised he wasn't as valued in the football world and upped his game and yes we benefitted and got a massive fee for him when he handed in a transfer request.

I would suggest though that decision by Parry is not enough for him to keep his job. He was piss poor at best as our CEO and the Standard Chartered deal has already shown to what levels.

what would i say? - rafa out perhaps, he's brainwashed too many of you. lower league spanish football, just wait and see - that's his level.

far too many posters on here won't answer a simple question because it will show rafa for what he is - its like refusing to come home early when you know your mrs is playing nice in the bedroom with next doors dog whilst you're busy at work.

the truth hurts people - false promises, failed dawns and out of the title race in october.

still it made me laugh - only the deluded would bring in barry to play left of a 442 and occasionally at left back.

Yeah, it's exactly like that. What a sad, strange, yet very typical analogy

A load of biased speculation from Rosco once again.

If you want to argue with what I posted, fine go ahead.

Comments like this however are effectively against our new principles and represent little more than goading. So for future reference if you want to avoid a ban, don't make them.

Ouch. Thats got to hurt.

Ross, it's all very well what you've said about Rafa etc, but any chance of a positive spin on something?

Everyone else in the thread seems to understand what I'm saying, is it really that hard for you to understand ? I haven't flip flopped at all, I've tried to clear up a misunderstanding you're having but you don't seem to want to listen.

Again you've failed to discuss any of the points I've made in the thread, rather pretty much confirming that what I posted about you is absolutely spot on. All you've done is commentate on how you think this thread is going, you've got no arguments with anything I've actually said. You're only response is to make up an argument you think I've made and argue against it and then have a pop at me.

You're even attributing things I've never said to me, which isn't a new thing either.

Let's get a moderator consensus then.

How many of the mods believe I should be banned for what I've typed in this thread?
2 points.

1. If I thought you deserved a ban for what you posted, you would have been banned.

2. You got a warning. Take it and learn from it, posting in a deliberate attempt to wind someone up won't be tolerated. Next time you will get ban.

Jesus calm down Ross. I dunno what and all the mods discussed but threatening to ban for this is bad. I have not seen anything in the last 2 pages which remotely even deserves a ban.

He has looked rather absurd, especially when your post was threatened with a ban, too

I think you are owed an apology, a big man would offer one

I think Ryan also gets under your skin rather too easily and obviously

It wasn't harmless. It was an attempt to drag the thread down to a slanging match. I can see four times where he's attacked me, rather than the post, in this thread alone. If I'm not mistaken you got banned for that recently.

EDIT: for the benefit of Peekay - I'm perfectly calm this evening. Ryan's most recent post in this thread was an example of misplaced confidence he has in thinking that sending lots of PM's to and being pally with the other mods will keep him immune from the new rules.

What was wrong with what i said Rosco?

Was "biased speculation" too abusive?

And as for "attacking you", get over yourself!

I was being childish, swearing and stroppy for no good reason, though

And whatever your feelings about Ryan's motives, there was something horribly dj syd-like about your threat to Rafa4pm, who can be a bit of an annoying div - or has been in the past anyway - but was largely blameless in this thread

It was a bit depressing really

You need to get a fucking sense of humour (and perspective) back, and sharpish

And for the record, I'm not fighting Ryan's corner here, because I hate him, his fucking chalk-board posts and his bootcut jean gayerisms

I want that on record

I might troll him on styleforum actually

If Rafa4pm had got banned for what he posted, this site would have immediately leapfrogged from the most easy going LFC forum around to the most draconian.

Brendan if you're going to troll Ryan on StyleForum I'd like some advance notice so I can take a day off work to watch/participate.
