Rafa being in charge of transfers

i think it's obvious to all but the most blinkered that our transfer dealings have improved markedly with the departure of Parry. the only slight black mark has been the fee for Johnson, but hopefully that will prove to be worth it in the end.

the alonso and aquilani tranfers have been handled superbly.

i don't think it's worth selling him for 4 mill or whatever. that get's you fuck all in the current market, and he could well be needed as cover for the whole left flank.

But it is worth mentioning that fuck all is a vast improvent on Dossena.

all this optimisism is nice to see but there were loads that wanted him gone in jan. LOADS.

Yeah, well, you'd know, neil.

so our squad improves every year yet the last time we won anything of note was with someone elses squad.

imo for a club like ours the only thing success is measured on is trophies, not how much money we may have made.

i like his stubborn approach with madrid but then why wasn't arbeloa tied down to another contract? would alonso had been so eager to leave if rafa hadn't tried to swap him for barry the year before? would we have wo the title had we bought better than degen, n'gog, keane and doseena the summer before.

i also think aquaman is a huge huge gamble.

i honestly hope things work out for us this year but i don't think we can judge this to be successful just yet.

Given the bust up Arbeloa had with Carragher at the end of the season, it's easy to speculate as to one of the reason it was thought moving him on was best.

Would Alonso have been so eager to leave if Benitez had not tried to swap him for Barry? Who knows. It's a bit like asking would Alonso have displayed his best form for the team had Benitez not made it clear that he was underperforming and his career was in serious danger of stalling.

Acquaman is indeed a huge gamble, though.
