Race to the Top 4

The same stuff was said about spurs with their recent tough fixtures. They came through thoses mates with flying colours

So, we're 18 points behind the top team and only 2 behind second. Last season we ended up 23 and 10 points respectively. This is the stage when our season stumbled, stuttered and eventually wheezed over the line in 4th with some seriously inconsistent performances. Here's to a better run in.

No we were stuttering before now. We barely won a game through January and into Feb. It was at this stage we started getting results and finished pretty strongly.

Last year when we also had a break in schedule and used it for training the team came out from the mini-break looking rusty and tired and lost the next game. Hope Jurgen learned from this.

BTW I can't see the image.

I think the difference this season will be the rotation before Christmas that we were able to do, which probably presented some injuries.
The players look in top physical condition now, but last year we looked extremely tired when January was finished.

The good thing about Man U-Chelsea game is that any result will make some cunts suffer while still be ok result for us. I think a Chelsea win will out extra pressure on Jose and he will go full busparking against is to avoid another defeat. A United win will cause Mayem in London and is Conte is still there the week after (depending on Barca result as well) he will probably not manage to establish any momentum to beat City.

Still best scenario is Chelsea winning at Trafford and loosing at Etihad as it will really koser Jose.

I actually worry a little having a succession of home games tbh.

It could easily kill our momentum if the first of those teams stop us scoring.

Updated table below shows the last 5 results in the corresponding fixtures.

Hadn't taken notice of how important the 0-5 was in the context of having the opportunity to rest or sub off early key players ahead of the United game. I think in other circumstances West Ham & Newcastle would sit back and play for the 0-0 by 70 mins before attacking - but in the context of it being Moyes & Rafa, i can't see that. If Palace find some form then it could be interesting given they play all three of our competitors in this chart - but without Zaha and Loftus-Cheek that might be challenging.

You're right, of course. We had a pretty awful time just after Christmas.

We have a huge bonus following that 5-0 superlative display against Porto, cos we play Newcastle the game before, which could be tricky & don't really need to worry too much about resting players, & we don't need to play our strongest side at Anfield before we play Utd a few days later.

That could be a huge bonus.

I'd take a draw at Anfield in return for resting key players & potentially getting six points from the fixtures either side, despite my slight worry about momentum being lost.

No momentum will be lost if we win at OT, to the contrary in fact 😉

We’re capable of letting in a shit load of goals, we’re that inconsistent. I actually hope we play a full strength side, at least in terms of attack and defence, then if we have a goal or two, rest the attackers.
I really don’t want us risking things in a one off game of such significance.

When is the last time we lost by 6 goals at Anfield ? If ever !

Not that I think we'd even get close to that even if we should we rest our important players (Salah, Firmino, Mane, Milner, Hendo, Can, Robertson, Gomez - who I think will start against the Mancs, though I'd prefer TAA to match Martial's pace) and instead play something along of the lines of :

Mignolet, Moreno, Klavan, Matip, TAA, Wijnaldum, Ox, Lallana, Woodburn, Ings, Solanke. OK that may be too many changes for most people (and definitely for Klopp) but you get the idea .. whatever we put out, and let's use the squad because this is what they are there for, it's not going to be an awful team (in fact it's likely that that defence has played as a first team !) and they are not going to lose heavily if at all (besides which the genuine first team players will be on the bench if needed).

I hate this topic. We're capable of beating and being beaten by anyone, and Maureen is going to try and shithouse a draw or one nil win when we go to Old Toilet. I don't think timing or the kinda run we're on will impact his influence on that game. The twat always stifles us. If we win those two home games before we go there I wouldn't be surprised if we were already second, but I'm scared to even predict that. Both West Ham and Newcastle will be looking for a draw too.

I think we’ll twat them all, including the pricks down the road. But say it a few more times and you might convince me otherwise.

We are nowhere secured a top 4 finish and the next fra games will be very important. Er need 6 home points and will get some help from others as they play each other. I think West Ham should be beatable.more so than Newcastle.

I'm just hoping that we finish second and city does something stupid off the field and ends up getting 20 points docked. Let's face it, unless something like that happens our luck doesn't seem like changing. Both under Rafa and Rodger we definitely had a season worthy of champions...it was just that the two Manchester team's ended up having an even better one.....look at Leicester, i have not seen the rest of the usual contenders being so listless ever.

I still want us to win the home leg against Porto - lets not leave ourselves open to a potential confidence drainer. But lets also remember some of the rotation we did in November when we might have say Mane and Salah on the bench with Firmino ear marked for an early sub. I'd like to have a first choice defence out to keep them building those links.

Fucking hell @Frogfish .
How offended could you have been to have posted the thing 4 times?
You have no idea how fucking slow the internet here is, especially when using a VPN. It's torture. Hit the reply button and go and make a cup of tea.

Then when I come back and the reply/post has still not loaded/posted I furiously mash the enter button in frustration - and lo and behold every one of those damn mashes registers and enters a repeat post !! The damn cunting computer was just waiting for me to do that !
-------
Fuck me it took 26 mins to edit this damn post. I'm off to watch a Chinese stolen Hollywood film because I deserve it and those Hollywood pricks/cunts won't be getting one cent of my money.
