Just to weigh in on Eduardos oncoming ban...

Whilst i think banning players on the bases of video evidence for diving is a good idea, i think it's a disgrace that Eduardo has, all of a sudden become the victim of a "witch hunt" Why, all of a sudden, has everyone gone bananas over a dive when simulation in the past has been taken with a pinch of salt? Why is Eduardo going to be banned and not Gilardino for his dive against Celtic? Or Rooney for his dive against Spurs? etc

If something like this is to come into place then Uefa, or whoever has the power these days, need to come out at the start of the season and lay down the law.

The law is the law NG, it's there already.
If they are clamping down and Eduardo was the first one to make an example of then that's just tough.
The time to feel hard done by is when other equally obvious cases might go unpunished.

I never knew there was a law to say divers were to be punished based on video evidence?

There is a law against simulation. If the authorities wish to look at the evidence of the video they can, just as they do for off the ball evidence that the referee has not seen where a player should have been sent off.
In this case the referee did not see the simulation.
Just take it on the chin and stop sounding like your wingeing manager

I can understand why you are upset by this as it reminds me of when Mascher was made an example of with his sending off at OT by Steve Bennett for doing something that United and Chelsea players in particular have been getting away for ages.

Hopefully UEFA will be setting a precedent and continue to punish diving retrospectively unlike the gutless FA with their 'Respect' campaign that just all but disappeared after the FA had been seen doing something about the lack of respect shown to officials.

I agree with you and Wenger on this one. Whilst it was a terrible dive there have been worse dives in the past that haven't been punished. FIFA have dug its own grave by letting all the previous incidents go unpunished meaning people are more willing to dive in the first place.

They should have made it clear they were going to start punishing divers via video evidence before the season started rather than suddenly deciding to invent a new rule as soon as there is a media outcry. If it was a Liverpool player that had been punished I would be very pissed off so sympathise with the Arsenal fans.

Do other clubs' forums get these characters? There used to be that brainless buffoon Cal, who seemed compelled to come on to LFC forums and ask what people thought of a reserve manc right back, and now there's this lad. 'Multi-tasking,' that seems to be their response, but it's a bit weird.

Article 10, para 1c of the UEFA disciplinary regulations (Misconduct of players): Players may be suspended for two competition matches, or for a specified period, for acting with the obvious intent to cause any match official to make an incorrect decision or supporting his error of judgement and thereby causing him to make an incorrect decision.

Shouldn't be too difficult to prove that, even using Wenger's copy of the video.

While on the topics of dives, Tony Hibbert's dive against Burnley was an absolute disgrace. Does he escape being critisised just because he is rubbish?
[/quote]

Haha I suppose so

The problem is that everything gets enforced selectively.

There have been multiple occasions where they make a show of cracking down on something, there is a significant increase in cards about something, then they moderate.

Why can't they announce what their policy is, and carry it out?

Open. Can. Of. Worms.

We'll see if they'll continue with this 'crackdown on diving' from here on out.

Will the FA follow suit and start to ban cheats? Or are they spineless and wont follow UEFA? Massive can of worms, box of frogs, and any other analogy you can find.

Just reported on SSN, 2 game ban for Eduardo. I cant wait for Wengers' comments.

Just in:

Wenger: Whinge, whinge, whinge, boo hoo, whinge, whinge, whinge, whinge, boo hoo, whinge, whinge!

As Wenger said, I wonder what the ban will given to Messi for his headbutt in the Super Cup match when video evidence is used?

If they're going to punish cheats then it has to be consistent. Wenger is right in that respect.

I think UEFA, FIFA and the various FA's are probably understaffed to deal with all cheating in football.

But if they were to actually make an effort and do it consistently their workload would soon decrease.

Much as I hated Eduardo's dive, Wenger's got every right to feel aggrieved here.

Why make an exmaple out of Eduardo specifically? And what, is every single player that dives from now on in any game going to get a 2 game ban?

A dangerous precedent has been set here.

I just wish Wenger shut his gum... He and the rest of the football world will benefit from this. If he looked at a broader picture he should know that all his whinging now disqualify him from ever claiming a cheater to be punished again!

Why does The Lying Rag go on shining
Why does the sea rush to shore
Don't they know it's the end of the world
'Cause you don't love me any more

Why do the birds go on singing
Why do the stars glow above
Don't they know it's the end of the world
It ended when I lost your love

I wake up in the morning and I wonder
Why everything's the same as it was
I can't understand, no, I can't understand
How life goes on the way it does

Why does my heart go on beating
Why do these eyes of mine cry
Don't they know it's the end of the world
It ended when you said goodbye

Why does my heart go on beating
Why do these eyes of mine cry
Don't they know it's the end of the world
It ended when you said goodbye

There's enough cheating going on in their own offices, lets be fair.
