Arsenal 1-0 Celtic, the tie is over. Eduardo has just dived in the box for a penalty and it is now game over. Fucking disgraceful dive, how Boruc never ripped his head off I will never know.
I seemed to get all worked up, such a clear piece of cheating always gets me mad. Especially when it is one of our players, Gerrard has wound me up on several occasions. In light of the current Blood-gate scandal in Rugby union, where a player has been banned for 4 months for cheating when video footage was analysed and investigated, is it possible to start coming down hard on these overpaid spoilt brats in football?
I would love to see some big bans thrown out, maybe 1 month in all competitions, for the likes of what i have seen tonight. Only then will players start to respect the game and referees.

Perhaps we ask Martin Taylor to tackle him again. I wonder if Wenger "saw it".

Of course it is possible.

A number of issues, simulation, goal line injustice, penalties, corner vs goal kick are all easily remedied with video evidence. Football is just too slow and stupid to implement them.

If anyone could find a video to this cheating I would be very greatful, nothing can be as bad as the infamous Maradonna goal or Rivaldo simulation mind.

Yep. The dive was wrong. So was every other dive seen before Eduardos. Cant beleive the fussing done over his. He's not English, i suppose

I'd like to see something done about this. Like others have already said maybe we should start using the technology available.

As it is though, I've got no problems with our players going down easy if it helps us get the desired results.

Eduardo defended over dive claims

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has refused to condemn Eduardo after the striker was accused of diving in the Champions League win over Celtic at the Emirates.

There appeared to be no contact between Eduardo and Celtic goalkeeper Artur Boruc but referee Manuel Gonzalez still gave a penalty that Eduardo converted.

Following the 3-1 win, Wenger said: "I do not go as far to say Eduardo dived.

"He went down, for what reason I do not know. Having seen it again on television, it doesn't look a penalty."

The Gunners boss added: "I believe really that it was not a penalty but I am also not sure that the keeper didn't touch him with his right knee, having seen it again.

"I do not think he (Eduardo) would have complained if the penalty was not given.

"Is it acceptable? I never asked in my life any guy to dive to win a penalty but sometimes the players go down because there is no other way to escape the tackling of the keeper. Sometimes they dive."

Wenger attempted to shrug off controversy by claiming that the Gunners were the dominant side as they booked their place in the group stages of the competition.

"I must still say that we were likely always to score the first goal because Eduardo had a great chance before the penalty," he said. "We always looked in control of the game."

He also felt Arsenal had been the victims of dodgy penalty decisions in the past, recalling an incident in the Champions League defeat against Liverpool in 2008.

"We got a penalty two years ago in the quarter-final of the Champions League at Liverpool that made the difference when Ryan Babel dived," said the Frenchman.

"Nobody ever apologised to us. It was a blatant dive and nobody spoke about it."

Ryan Babel dived? What a joke. It was a shoulder barge and he went down... as did an Arsenal player in the first leg.

Wenger is a bitter little twerp and a hypocrite to boot. He's like a footballing Ted Kennedy. 'Someone else was in the car? I did not see her'.

I fucking hate that prick so much. no one said anything because it was a clear fucking penalty.

Scottish Football Association chief executive Gordon Smith has urged UEFA to punish Arsenal striker Eduardo for diving in the Champions League play-off round second leg against Celtic.

Eduardo won a penalty in the Gunners' 3-1 win at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night after appearing to throw himself to the ground in the area.

Smith wants European governing body UEFA to act retrospectively to punish the Croatia international, in the same way they dealt with Lithuania striker Saulius Mikoliunas, who cheated to earn a spot-kick against Scotland at Hampden Park in September 2007.

Video evidence was used to sanction Mikoliunas, who was banned for two matches.

The SFA recently applied that precedent to punish Rangers striker Kyle Lafferty, who feigned being headbutted by Aberdeen defender Charlie Mulgrew during a Scottish Premier League game in May.

Smith said: "Eduardo is a terrific player who has battled back from a serious injury to resume playing at the highest level.

"However, last night he showed disrespect to the game by his actions in winning a penalty against Celtic.

"Since I came into this post, I have raised the issue of simulation time and time again - both here in Scotland and with FIFA and UEFA.

"I don't think that I have received enough support in my efforts to eradicate what I believe to be one of the most serious threats to the integrity of football. Last night showed exactly why we must take this issue seriously.

"We have shown the courage to use retrospective punishment when it comes to simulation and I would urge UEFA to do so in this instance. Everything that can be done to stamp it out must be done - starting right now.

"Wednesday's incident also brings the whole issue of video evidence to the fore."

If Babel dived how come no Arsenal players complained and Wenger said nothing until now?

It was tongue in cheek FFS. I see that Wenger saw fit to mention the Babel penalty from two years ago.

Plus with Eboue, Diaby and now Eduardo you've got a nice set of diving little cheats to call upon. If they want this stamped out then they need a punishment that puts people off. I'm all for the same system of the rugby citing.

Make the bans long and the we'll soon see whether players think the "risk" is worthwhile.

cheating, harrassing referee's and being arseholes is acceptable if the outcome is victory, that is the reality (see Mancs, Chelsea etc) . I wish Liverpool did it more we're far too nice.

We done our fair share of ,errr, "professionalism" too

Didn't see the dive by Eduardo - I can only pesume it's very blatant given the fuss that's been kicked up. Virtually every team has a diver or two though so i'm not sure where all the righteous anger comes from. Our captain and best striker are prone to diving to get decisions after all.

It's a bit weird that wenger brought up the babel thing though - that was hardly a clear dive even in replays. if he wanted an example of how diving goes on all the time there are about a thousand better examples he could have picked, and i'm sure plenty have happened against arsenal.

The diving and cheating in general in football is pissing me off though, and i agree with whoever mentioned video evidence being used in retrospect. I'd probably go one further and make it a (points) punishment for the club too - if you make it a problem for the clubs rather than the referees it'll soon disappear
