First impression of Matip is that he's a very savvy, intelligent defender. God knows we've needed a player like that at the back.

Good defending and run on the break by Ilori there. Meanwhile, Markovic and Kent have switched flanks. Markovic has immediately looked better on the left.

I think with Markovic is that he needs an overlapping full back constantly so he has the option because he's actually a clever player.... put him on the wing with moreno and clyne and you'll see a different player.

He's a good player and I've been impressed most of the times I've seen him. I don't know whether it's a problem with his frame size, or injuries, but he looks a talent.
