Pre-season already!

Jones has looked decent in possession, but he doesn't naturally have that defensive awareness. He's spent his career as a playmaker and it's going to be a hell of a journey for hlm to develop the insticits to sniff snuff out play and prevent opposition attacks.

Matip can't replace what Konate offers, but that's been known for months. It's just more fuel for the fire.

The right back experiment isn't working without someone covering for Trent. We're back to how it was in the start of last season.

Might sound like I'm defending Matip but I'd argue that even though Konate can handle a few of the situations Matip was put in with his pace, we shouldn't be opening ourselves up for those types of attacks.
Right now it's as if we're saying please, attack our right flank Konate will handle it.
But the moment he doesn't, maybe he slips or misses the tackle, that's it, penalty or a one on one with the keeper. It's a high risk game we're playing.
I don't remember Trent being positioned in the middle of the pitch in the seasons we won the league or the CL.

So much for pressing from the front working out so well in the absence of Nunez, like I said last night to a certain poster, if you leave big gaping holes in midfield, you’ll get punished.

Are you actually suggesting Nunez would have made a difference?

Thats’s brand new players full of running in midfield - they were all over the place positionally, defence and all - not just Trent either.

Correct.

I’ll add - with Matip as the RCB.

It's also worth saying that I think with that sort of set up, you're asking for trouble with Konate's fitness. He's covering alot of ground per game and eventually will get injured as a result.

Exactly

Yes… bite us on the arse by him not getting any game time and therefore not developing so that he ends up on loan to Aberdeen before leaving for pennies.

Van Dijk isn’t injury prone.
No VVD isn't injury prone but he can't stop opponents trying to break his legs.

No that’s exactly the contrary to what I’m saying and have been saying, irrespective of high press from the front….you’ll get punished and concede a hatful if your midfield is disfunctioned and leaving so much space behind them.

Nunez pressing from the front there, ball gets played downfield and Trent gets rinsed…Ibou? Where are you going.

We’re in for a long long season.

Klopp’s seething at someone, looks like Gakpo?

Tbf, he's being asked to handle some top class players. It's not exactly Dwight McNeil

Yeah, but some poor touches, losing possession to easily and over commiting in some of the tackles are uneccessary even against Bayern

OK, I don't know if you've noticed it, but our attack seems to have collapsed after Gakpo and Jota were subbed.

Gakpo’s still on? Got booked giving a foul away tracking back.

Edit: Now he’s coming off lol.

No he's not been great, that's for sure. I think Trent has been worse.
