Gomez has the pace but worry about getting done by the high ball over the top. Don't see another option though. Moving Tsimikas or Robbo there would be a gamble.

Jesus , from about 15th minute onwards that first half was brutal , they just passed us death , foden has got milners number and were just lumping balls forward looking for mane time and time again , no idea how klopp saves this one ...

...solute shambles..long time since I've seen such a shagged out first half performance..Hendo..worst, followed by Milly...sloppy passing, non existent marking..leggy...tired looking..witless performance. Bound to be better in the second half..they will be fuming that they haven't scored..

All is not lost....

Games like this make you wonder what the fucking point of Neco is?

Get Konate and Gomez in there, and play four CBs. Park the bus or we are going to get bummed.

I honestly can't remember any of our midfielders doing anything with the ball. Matip has been our most creative player.

Milner, Henderson, Mané have been dreadful. Fabinho, Jota, Jones non existent.

Milner is getting sent off or giving up a goal here if Henderson keeps leaving him 1v1 against Grealish/Foden.

We need bobby dropping deep to open up more passing lanes to the midfielders. At the moment it's either mane or Salah on the wing, and then there's too much to do..bobby adds a different dimension.

Milner is getting fucked, so I'd bring on Gomez I think, solely because he's pacey and strong. Moving Kostas or Robbo to right back is a risk.

Next, keita for Jones IF those subs don't change anything

Ok first off I'd bring Tsimikas on and move Robbo to the right (or we could bring on Gomez - but I like that solution better), no way Milner can continue because he's going to get a second Yellow or we'll concede from that side.

Next off we have to do something about the midfield. That means either Jones off for Keita or Mane off and move Jota to the left and put Firmino through the middle. I prefer Mane off.

Foden is killing us.

I'd consider taking off Milner. He'll get a red at this rate.
I don't think so. Milner is the king of professional fouls. He got away with one on Foden just outside the box and made another to make sure we went in level. He won't do anything so risky now he's on a yellow. And there's no one better on the bench.

There's a tactical problem here.

We've been playing a more traditional front 3 this year with Jota as a more classic no. 9 than a false 9 in Firmino.

To accommodate that, we've done a couple of things to get more control in midfield:

1. Create an overload down the right with Salah, Henderson and Trent almost as an auxiliary midfielder

2. Have Thiago take on Firmino's playmaking from a deeper position

We don't have either Trent or Thiago today, so for me, playing Jota against such a tactically adept side like City is a problem.

Milner doesn't have the legs to create that right-sided overload, and we don't have a deeper playmaker in midfield.

The front 3 are just being left too far forward without supply. Which is why you're seeing Matip trying to break lines continuously and move the ball forward.

The solution to this is being Firmino on for Jota, and play the false 9 system. I'd also bring Gomez on for Milner.
