Pre Match Pre Match - Lille (CL) - Tues 20:00

Yeah, like any fucker with half a brain cell was ever buying that "just a niggle" bollocks.

The truth will always come out, so just tell us to begin with the cunt's dead.

More "bad-ish" news apparently Konate has been playing injured. Been taking pain killers for his knee injury.

🚨Ibou Konate pre-match Lille press conference⤵️

🗣️ Konate on Nunez's heroics v Brentford: "I'm very happy for him. I know he works very hard to have this moment. I said we really need you in this game and he was laughing."

🗣️ Konate on overdue clean sheet: "I'm a defender. For every defender in this team it is important to keep a clean sheet."

🗣️ Konate on his fitness: "I tried to come back at 100%. I rushed my comeback for this team. I still have pain. There is pain-killers, but it is enough."

🗣️ Konate on trying to maintain 100% UCL record: "It's our target to finish top [of league phase table]. Lille are a very good team and we have to be ready. We will aim for the three points tomorrow."

🗣️ Konate on coming back from injury: "I was very close to coming back anyway [when Gomez got injured v West Ham] but when I saw Joe I said I have to come back quicker. I didn't think about it, the pain...day after day, it's fine. For sure the medical staff did a great job."

🗣️ Konate on Liverpool medical staff: "The physios and medical staff have done a great job. I don't know how many hours I spent at the club every day when I was injured. I thanked them with some cookies!"

🗣️ Konate on being a leader: "I came to Liverpool when I was 21. I was really young. I think I have grown up in every situation, as a human, as a player. The club helped me a lot to be captain of the France squad. It was a great moment for me. I have to keep working hard."

🗣️ Konate on partnership with VVD: "This season [it has been the best centre-back pairing in Europe]. Everybody knows Virgil and his quality. For me he is the best in his position. I just want to be better than him one day! That's why I work hard."

🗣️ Konate on playing through pain barrier: "I just talk about my situation personally. Everyone takes their time to come back fit to play. Of course, I wouldn't be surprised if others did that. I want to fight for this club. We have to sacrifice."

🗣️ Konate on whether Liverpool offered him a new contract: "I have been offered a deal, yes. Am I close to signing it? That's another conversation!"

🚨Arne Slot pre-match Lille press conference:

🗣️ Slot on Thomas Frank describing Liverpool as the best team in the world after Saturday:

"His opinion means something to me, but it's too early to say [we're the best in the world]."

🗣️ Slot on likely 1st-place finish in UCL table: "We think 1st is best position to end up in but it's a strange league table. Maybe if you end up at No.1 you can face [a tougher team later on]. It is not possible to say because of this weird format, not in a negative way but a strange format. Being on top doesn't say you're the best team, like 24 doesn't mean you are 24th best either."

🗣️ Slot on Lille: "I'm impressed, not surprised. 2-3 years ago I faced their current manager and I was impressed by his team. I've seen many games of them and they have deserved every single point for now. I'm impressed and an unbeaten run of 21 games says a lot."

🗣️ Slot on Champions League format: "It's tough to judge as long as the season is going. You can't judge the table and say who is the best right now as we haven't had the same teams. In a draw, you can lucky with who you have or unlucky. That's why it's easier in the cups."

🗣️ Slot on Liverpool's performance levels: "You tell me our attacking stats have gone up. That's probably true that we scored more but we've conceded more too, so we've needed these goals more. We're working longer together with the team and know even better what we want."

🗣️ Slot on UCL form so far this season: "These players are not impressed with wins against Leverkusen and Real Madrid. They liked it but five minutes later they are already thinking about the next game. With Feyenoord, there would be a party in the dressing room."

🗣️ Slot on what he expects from Lille: "I'm expecting an open game. They press high against every team they face and are not afraid to carry it out from the back, so it's a change of style compared to recent teams we've faced."

🗣️ Slot on trying to finish UCL league phase with 100% record: "A badge of honour? It's a motivation to keep it going and we want to win every game, but we just want to finish in the top 8. We know we need a point for that but we never go out playing for a point."

🗣️ Slot on whether Gravenberch will be rested: "Maybe we don't have someone exactly similar, but that is true of all of them. Every player we have is unique in their own way. Wata can play there, Macca can play there, Curtis can play there. There is always a balance."

Interesting on his contract offer, he’s been offered but not signed it. Another player waiting it out joining the queue.

I know plenty of you are still on a high from the Brentford game, but now that Jota is out again aren't we back in "needing a striker" mode again?
Or do you trust Darwin to just start banging them in now?

Slot will obviously continue playing Diaz up front even though it has looked ineffective the last few games.

Will Slot give Danns a shot now?

I guess Slot’s thinking is Diaz for open see-saw games, Nunez against the low block. There is also an option of Chiesa as a false 9.

in my mind we never left "needing a striker" mode. Jota was always going to break, nunez will probably be nunez and danns isn't trusted yet.

He's pointless though. You cant plan long term tactics and rotation with him in and out all the time. He'll score 1 or 2 goals a month (which admittedly is better than Nunez) as he's always injured
I can't disagree with that but do we have an option?
I wouldn't give it a second thought if we had a reliable striker in the squad.

This this summer we need to go and get a first choice striker, and worst case scenario keep Jota and Nunez.

Ideally get 2 strikers in and wave Nunez and Jota goodbye.

I made a thread on this here : https://www.sixcrazyminutes.com/threads/cl-table-and-final-16.209033/

I've got PSG finishing 20th, Celtic 18th (they'll lose at Villa) and City 17th (assuming PSG & City draw with each other and both win their other game). City could be a Last 16 opponent for us or Barca.

Did another bit of playing around with that predictor.

I think there’s a fairly good chance that Real and City land in those 15-18 spots - they’re the big beasts (along with PSG) that I’d prefer to avoid.

The other teams I’d prefer to avoid are ones that like to sit deep and counter - Inter & Athletico Madrid spring to mind and I’d add Atalanta because they’ve become a bit of a bogey team for us.

So what we want, first of all, is a PSG win against City, because they’ll beat Brugge at home in their last game, but 12 points will probably have them finish 19-22.

Real are slightly different, they’ll likely win their remaining 2 games and finish on 15 points - so we need enough teams to get to 12-14 points to get Real up into 14th or above.

A Celtic win takes them to 12. We need to beat Lille, then it’s up to Slots old club Feyenoord to take points of them in their last game last game to potentially get themselves above City and Lille below Real.

ideally looking at the likes of Sporting, Monaco, Benfica, Celtic, Feyenoord, Lille, Stuttgart, Brest and PSV possibly filling in those mid table positions and keeping City & Real apart.

Although - Real drawing City in a playoff with the winner playing Barca is an even better result.

In terms of QF - Dortmund, AC Milan, Villa or Juventus would be likely - Inter, Atletico, Bayern, also possible.
