Is this a good or a bad time to play Ipswich? They could be on very low morale, or they could have just had a huge wake up call and come to us planning to keep it tight.

I’d like to see

Ali

Trent
Konate
Virgil
Tsimikas

Gravy
Macca
Szobo

Salah
Nunez
Gakpo

Another win to confirm the “blip” to history please boys.

Worth noting there’s a storm warning in Liverpool for the day before.

Hard to ask for an ‘easier’ fixture.

Ipswich can be dangerous on the break and like to play football so hopefully we have enough to get it done.

Tsimikas played 90 mins yesterday, Robbo will start.
Konate in.
Diaz, Salah, Gakkers up front.

Every game worries me now that Jota is out.
We clearly have trouble scoring. Only won yesterday due to a lucky deflection.

I'd still stick with Nunez up top.

He makes the runs, opens up space. If he scores it's a surprise but I think the alternative makes us too easy to defend against

If morale is low then playing away to 'the best team in the world' (not my claim) isn't going to be high on the agenda to fix it !

We clearly don't have a problem scoring but we do need a plethora of chances to score them. Luckily we continue to create them.

Elliott starting might be a wild card, as Szobo played more minutes than planned versus Lille. Otherwise I think it picks itself. I haven't seen much of Ipswich this year, but the standard in general of the newly promoted clubs is well off it compared to the PL. Ipswich are the best of the bunch, but still... If we don't play like dickheads then we'll be fine.

PSV is now a dead rubber which gives Slot some flexibility, but the game is still worth a few million quid and under FSG/Klopp we've typically names stronger sides than we thought in these ties. Hopefully we can turn up in the first half and make a few early subs. We've got some very motivated players on the bench and now we're into the 2 games a week schedule until May, it would be wise for us to start being more clinical/decisive in the first 45.

Mildly concerned by Robbo, and I wish I wasn't, but it is there. One rash moment leading to a goal combined with 11 men behind the ball feels like the biggest likelihood of an upset.

Yeah I do not really want to see Robbo up against Omar Hutchinson. With Tsimi playing well, I'd rather Robbo was used as the leader in our cup games & rotated teams. He deserves to lose his spot.

Regarding the last game, it's worth noting we played it safe after scoring the second. They had ten men. We had essentially confirmed the top spot. There's some context needed - bar the lapse in their goal there was a lot of game management in play throughout the 90.

Looking at the next 3 fixtures :

Ipswich Sat 25th
PSV - Wed 29th
Bournemouth - Sat 1st

We need to protect and rest our players for Bournemouth who have a week off before our game (and a week after before the FAC).

Will Slot rotate heavily for PSV is THE key question. If he does we go full strength here, no extra rest/rotation required. Robbo & Gakpo will start because they were rested.

Only thing I'd say is that Diaz, while great on the break, is the one who looks like scoring the least. I'd put Gapko in there for sheer goal threat. If they sit back we're less likely to hit them on the counter, which is where Diaz is most useful. Gapko can get into good positions to score and is more likely to score from outside the box.

Rubbish, if we hadn’t scored then the last 35 mins would have been very different. We didn’t need to push for a winner.

I was thinking the same yesterday - the goals aren't going in as easily as they were earlier in the season.

Ipswich will come to defend - particularly after getting battered by City - so I can see it being a frustrating afternoon if the trend continues.

The main thing is not to concede and give them something to hold onto.

On all things title race, Arsenal have Wolves away, Forest have a tricky away game to Bounemouth and City and Chelsea meet in the game of the weekend.

There will be points dropped, but I'd back Arsenal to get the win. They have a days less rest, but Wolves are fucking shite and get taken apart. If Sean Dyches Everton can get four goals against them then it says it all.

I'd like to see more of Freddy, he currently looks like our most dangerous option from the bench. Slot should give him at least 30 mins.

Also Gapko?

We totally bossed the game other than one aberration. It reminded me of peak 80s, Hansen and Lawrenson pass it between them and the keeper a thousand times and when the opposition falls asleep, then boom! Rush scores. Then back to the same dance.

Interesting weekend. Wishful thinking maybe, but I think that Wolves can get at least a draw from that game.

We always seem to snap these teams out of poor form. Look what we did to the skanks albeit temporarily. And our attack is wasteful.

I think it’s time to give Elliott a start, for two reasons:

1. He is our most incisive lock-picker against a low block. I think other than Mo he is the most likely player on the pitch who can create an unmissable chance for Nunez.

2. He had two superb substitute apperances in a row, producing actual game-winning contributions. If that is not rewarded with a start, what’s the point in having players compete for a spot?

He'll get a start, but not against Ipswich. Slot subbed or rested the entire midfield yesterday. No chance he's starting.
You'll see Harvey start against PSV midweek.

I do agree with you that his sub appearances have been good but he started against Accrington and looked meh.
