Liverpool: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Tsimikas, Endo, Szoboszlai, Gakpo, Jota, Salah, Nunez.
Subs: Kelleher, Diaz, Elliott, Chambers, Scanlon, Doak, McConnell, Quansah, Nyoni.

Trey Nyoni is an attacking midfielder who signed for Liverpool FC from Leicester City in September 2023.
He started Academy life with the U18s and on his home debut in Kirkby netted a dramatic, stoppage-time winner in the mini-derby against Everton.
Nyoni spent 10 years at Leicester's academy before the Reds swooped to sign him.
An England U16 international, he scored and assisted on his debut against Italy.

TBF we have Jones, Gravenberch (and Thiago) all who favour the LCM position, so the more he's able to adapt the more minutes he's going to rack up. I'm not saying we don't need another six, but it is in his interest to be flexible across the 3 midfield positions and I'm sure he knew that before signing with us.

I'd wager Jones could also do a good as job at six, so it shouldn't all be on Mac, but ultimately they'd all rather be playing than not.

I just don't agree with it. We shouldn't be thinking "how can we make this consistently technically brilliant attacking mid (who was instrumental in a world cup trophy) in to a single pivot DM?". We fucked the window by leaving us a plethora of attacking talent, yet leaving the defence to stagnate. Again. A DM should have been priority after szob and Mac were picked up. Yes we had dreams of grandeur with caicedo, or fuck around with lavia. To then think a 13m 30 year old and ANOTHER attacking mid for 40m is suitable is insane.

I'm guessing I'm missing some stuff here... are we struggling with injuries and suspensions?

Why is Gakpo in midfield and why do we have no-one on the bench?

No idea what is up with Joe and Ibou but I can't say I'm surprised both are out. I'm sure Klopp will tell us in about 10 mins.

Post 21

To recap:

Mac Allister - suspended
Gravenberch - in training but a doubt for today
Curtis - back after international break (mild hamstring)
Bacjectic, El Muerte - out until new year

Hence Endo and Szabo only 'first teamers' with Gakpo, Trent and Elliott as midfild options playing out of position

1. Few injuries
2. Mac suspended to endo starts
3. Gakpos in midfield because klopps a meff

It was either Harvey or Gakpo, there isn't really an obvious choice there especially when Harvey's looked great when he's come from the bench and pretty poor whenever he's started.

I would imagine the physicality of Brentford would come into Klopp's thinking here. Endo Elliott Szobo would get eaten alive.

... and so who would you play at LCM?

Elliott. He holds the ball well and is creative.

Gakpo can come off the bench for Jota, Nunez or Elliott when it inevitably goes wrong. This team leaves us with no backup cf for when nunez woke up on the chaos side of the bed
