Yet Argentina played him as a 6 in their last game as well.

Me oh my, a different manager with different tactics and different players around him played him the same way as we do for 1 game against a vastly inferior opponent??

Wait. He wasnt that good and the WORST of the midfield 3??

Nah, not buying it.

We need a fucking dedicated DM who's better than our options, or pair Mac with a relevant mildly competent high energy midfielder.

He's too good a player not to do an OK job as a 6, but it isn't his best position. Unless we're going back to playing without one, we need to strengthen there IMO.

That's all my point is. He's arguably our best LCM. He could be great in a double pivot. Klopps setting him up to fail

His stats clearly, CLEARLY, shows that isnt true. But keep on being wrong.

I find it so weird that some cant give him time to develop in the role.
Anyway, enough of this chat.

Come on you Reds, we need a win. If we dont win we can always blame Macca for being in the stands.

Have you watched us this season?

Except they do when you look at the additional important stats I requested.

We bought premier league proven LCM who won a world cup in that position.

Why on earth should he learn a new position

Alisson, Trent, Konate, Virgil, Tsimikas, Szoboslai, Endo, Elliott, Salah, Nunez, Diaz.
Midfield is a worry.
It is a worry but players need to step up and
show some bollocks when called upon as well.

Harvey has done well, really well in fact in near enough all his cameos, time he stepped it up from the start now.

Endo has been hit and miss, likely another chance for him to step up in a big game.

Kostas needs to pull his finger out his arse and show some of his earlier form because he’s been way below par this season.

Then there’s Trent who needs to remember which club he plays for and why he was made VC.

That’s a pretty straight forward answer, we have adequate players to play that role and we don’t in the no6.

So we bought 4 midfielders in the summer and none happen to be a 6 then?

Mac hasn't any redeeming qualities as the 6, he's not quick, he's not strong, he doesn't sense danger and he doesn't win many duels....it's pretty obvious he's better in and around the opposition box than his own. We saw that at Brighton and we saw that at the World Cup, he makes things tick.

We started off pre season with Mac and Szobo as the #8s and it was working perfectly until for some strange reason Klopp decided to play Mac and Jones in a double pivot and when you're conceding goals against 2nd division German sides, what did we think would happen in the Prem?

Endo and Grav should battle it out for the 6 at least until Jan.

Actually the first half of Benny’s stats show he has a hell of a lot of redeeming qualities just not all the ones that matter, most notably losing the ball in his own third.

Who requested?
I did, then you replied saying you were thinking the same (thinking and asking are not the same thing). You actually said it blew the whole he can’t play the no6 argument out of the water and if you changed Macs name for Andre people would be creaming themselves. Thats simply not true as the stats I requested and Benny subsequently provided shows Mac is one of the worst performing no6’s in the league when it comes to two of the stats that are most influential in coughing up chances to the opposition.
I like Mac, he’s an exceptional player but he’s an average DM.

I have no idea how some people can choose Jones aver Gravy. Jones is almost worthless as an attacking midfielder, if you just want him to keep the ball and slow the game down - he can do that. But Gravy has excellent possession stats AND has some real attacking nouse, it's just great watching him play.

Gravy - Mac - Szobo our best midfield, but I could be persuaded to change Mac or Gravy for Endo for some games.

Jones offers overlapping width on the left more than any other midfielder, which means the LB doesn’t need to do it and the left sided attacker can invert more successfully.

He’s also very good at ghosting in from wide and scoring a few goals.

Our other left midfielders tend to stick to the 1/2 space or central.

Gravy v Curtis cones down to what sort of shape we want from our forwards and whether we want our LB high up the pitch leaving space.

Curtis is an important asset for us.

Pity Jones availability is pretty poor. He would have been ideal for us in this game but is yet again unavailable.

Reckon Jones also has a left foot which it seems like none of our other midfielders do

So move grav there? Move Jones there. Hell, we've pissed around with Elliott's development enough, move him there.

It's complete mismanagement of transfers.

TBF we have Jones, Gravenberch (and Thiago) all who favour the LCM position, so the more he's able to adapt the more minutes he's going to rack up. I'm not saying we don't need another six, but it is in his interest to be flexible across the 3 midfield positions and I'm sure he knew that before signing with us.

I'd wager Jones could also do a good as job at six, so it shouldn't all be on Mac, but ultimately they'd all rather be playing than not.

I don’t think any of those options are as good as Mac currently is and it seems Klopps agrees. I would say it’s only mismanagement of one transfer if that.

Szob
Mac
Jones
Grav
Endo
Badger
Thiago
Elliott

Only 4 of those available and only 1 of them you’d say is a regular starter. The midfield depth isn’t as it seems on paper, we’re still short.

Hopefully we play well today but I’m not going to be surprised if things look disappointed.
