He attempted to rake his studs down Manes Achilles it was both dangerous and worthy of a red card. The cunt deserved a sending off. Please do t make excuses for the player or the team they're all shithouses

Agree it was harsh, but by the letter, I don't think it was necessarily wrong... There was no attempt to play the ball and he did rake his studs across Sadio's calf / ankle.

Like you lot, though, I reckon it would only have been yellow if he'd just walked to the ref to actually get it.

I thought Owen had it bang on, it could have gone either way and even if the ref was torn, Felipe made the decision for him. You could argue a yellow for the challenge and a yellow then for dissent would be fair.

The ref did it by the book, whereas others would have let it go as a yellow - if Mane gets an Achilles injury because of a deliberate attempt to bring him down aggressively, then our opinion suddenly swings the other way.

Are we basing punishment on how damaging the violent conduct is? All this grey area, using your discretion bullshit is why you see dumb decisions like the Pickford vs VVD challenge last year. No one would ever know if the intent was there, but the rash and damaging challenge off the ball has the same potential for injury. Griezmann got sent off for a high boot, so did Mane, the intent is debatabe but the decision arguably more clear cut. I don't get the difference.

Wasn’t a red for me. But considering the way they usually play and all the tactics/antics they employ, it’s possibly karma.

Like I say, I only saw it the once. There was a challenge a few mins earlier in the same place that was definitely yellow worthy that only got a free kick. Maybe that came to mind.

Also, I was sat next to a very depressed Atleti fan. Couldn't figure out why he'd got a ticket in our end when there was loads of space in there's. Either way, was funny singing ADIOS ADIOS ADIOS with him sat there looking like he wanted to top himself.

For what it’s worth, this is exactly how I saw it too..

He had both. Called him back 3 times. Before sending him off.

I think it was more a case of, 'will book him for a cynical foul.. come here... come here.. come here... well if you're going to be a cunt, so am I.. will upgrade that cynical foul to violent conduct as it was from behind'.

He was hellbent on showing who was boss, and Madrid were hellbent on trying to show the ref who was boss. Something had to give, or you have the 'ref has lost control of the game'.

Was the red harsh on it's on merit? For me yes. But it was two yellows on it's own right for me.

I said it makes sense, I have no issue playing Konate

I'm just saying that after the stick Klopp got last year for daring to play one or two first team regulars in the final match and arranging for one of them to get injured, he can expect more of the same if Konate so much as breaks a toenail

Fair enough.
But I would hardly call Konate, Gomez or Phillips a first team regular at present unless thay mean sitting on the bench. (Not saying you) But how do people excpet those player to gain that experience and be ready to be called into action unless they are played. And these dead rubber games give them and Klopp that opportunity.

I know many here do not think it, but I like to think that I am pretty balanced in my jugdement of players, and The Ox had a decent game last night, Yes he ded the Ox thing trying to take on too many players a running down blind alley's, and yes taking on shots when he should have pssed the ball; but I put the last down too being desperate to prove his worth. Even Origi was begining to look like his oldself. Maybe I am wrong in my jugdement of them. Maybe they need the game time.
Or maybe Klopp has told them that if they will be starters in the last two group games and they need to prove their worth or come Jan' they will bring in other players to cover Salah Keita and Mane come the AFCON.

Time will tell if I am being over critical of they or not

I know I'm getting old and it's a bit soppy, but I really love how we seem to make a point of welcoming all of our former players back, when they visit... Seeing Nando meeting Harvey, then Jose, and then seeing Kenny genuinely happy to see Jose there at the end, with Suarez waiting for his hug was lovely.

Is it just me, or is this a relatively (5 - 10 years or so) new thing, that it's such a deliberate thing for the club?
