I agree Vlad, I'm not that bothered about getting rid of too many players at the moment.

We could do with signing a DM and a winger that will become integral to the side, and then after that Kenny will have to make some shrewd decisions about exactly how we line up and who we are relying on week after week.

Putting steel back in the midfield and improving the creativity going forward would make a big difference. Aurelio/Wilson ought to be able to cover left back, up front I think we should make do with Kuyt/N'Gog or even Suso as partners for Torres. Everywhere else we should be able to manage.

It's clear where the greatest deficiencies are.

Bit confused by all this to be honest.
We all seemingly now (the vast majority) agree that bar about four or five players the squad is absolute shite.
However when Roy was here (a week ago) it was the general feeling Rafa had not left him a shite squad and it was all down to him for not getting the best out of them.
Now Kenny has arrived to universal acclaim it seems to have opened a few peoples eyes.
I think we need to make our minds up what the truth is here
I am not defending Roy in this particularly as he brought in Konchesky and Poulsen, but that is just two out of a load of dross, and the truth of our situation lies somewhere between Hodgson and Benitez, with , in my opinion, the latter sharing the majority of the blame for the state of the squad.
Blackpool were a much better team than us again yesterday, linking passes, nipping in and around our players, great movement looking confident. If they had Torres, Gerrard and Reina they would we a gazillion times better than us.
Kenny needs to convince the owners on the dire state of our squad. I don't think that involves selling anyone at the moment, it needs building up.
Oh how we miss Javier.

I agree with a lot of what you say there, Vlad.

Of course Roy had to go though and the first good thing to come out of his sacking is that it should now be obvious to everyone how bad our squad is and they should have at least a bit of clue about what needs to be done. Roy's sacking may not bring instant improvement but at least it should open a way for us to get things right.

and I agree with you, I like this mutual back slapping .
Roy did have to go. I was one of the naive fools who thought Roy would be a steadying influence play his best team, play round pegs in round holes, and handle the press well. I was wrong.
I also thought he had a decent team , but lacked another top class forward, but ultimately had a shite squad. I was right.
It was the exact same situation in Rafa's last season too, but magnified hugely when Mascherano went.
Roy had to go, mainly because he was making the same mistakes in team selections, shite substitutions, showing mind boggling stubbornness and talking crap to the media, the Wolves game epitomised all of that, but just the same reasons why I wanted Benitez out.
Kenny has to get a striker in, and someone with pace and skill out wide on one side or the other, preferably the right , so Dirk can sit on the bench. I am also now worried about our Centre back positions. Carra can probably get away with it this season, Skrtel is a time bomb, you are just waiting for an error, and Agger is either injured or playing catch up. Wilson needs games, and should either be played or put out on loan, to see if he is viable for next year. In the summer we then need a left back, a centre back, and someone for the other wing....unless by some quirk, the youth get a chance and prove themselves , but we just can't afford to take those chances at the moment.

kenny did himself no favors yesterday. when a manager (regardless of reputation) picks a settled, balanced side with people familier with their positions or at the very least more comfortable in their position than someone who isn't comfortable in that position then I will continue to bang the 'squad is that shit' drum.
kenny's selection yesterday was shocking and we got what we deserved.

I really don't know what to think Neil anymore Neil.
I was aghast at Roy playing Poulsen and Lucas together so often when it was clearly a disaster, at least that stopped, but then for Kenny to re-introduce the pairing, I could almost cry.

The only thing missing is the best midfield in the world, like we had a couple of years ago.

Other than that, and the defence being shit and Torres being crap and Gerrard being suspended, we're fine.

It's incredible how the midfield is failing to adequately protect the defence AND provide support to the attack.

You could introduce training dummies on the pitch at matchday and they'll offer about as much resistance to the opponents as the likes of Lucas and Poulsen do.

I've never really thought about that but it's so true. It's fucking criminal.
