If Ronaldo had Evra, Ronaldo and Rooney out for long periods last season,
you mean fergie 🙂

let's not kid ourselves, if manu lost their key players they would still be there, or there abouts come the the end of the season.

Interesting write up Ryan. Your comparisons to Manure's 'CMs' doesn't work imo as Rafa rarely rotates his middle. How many times have we seen Gerrard-Masch or Aqua-Masch? We haven't because he prefers Lucas-Masch most of the time. So Sheikh, I think, is right here. If there was more balance in the midfield partnerships we'd have seen, I would have agreed with you.

Also, you have to admit we play far better footy with Gerrard/Aqua in the middle ...

It was a decent display again by our boys, owing a lot to that radical 4-4-2 system.

They wouldn't have been competing for the title.

I guess I agree on that part, but part of me think even without rooney this season people would step up and take responsibility, fergie would push them until they did.

Interesting line-up. I, like a few others expected to see Aquilani start, but so be it. Goes to show that it doesn't really matter who you put in there, so long as the tempo's frentic from the off, and we pressure them deep into their own half. Gerrard allows you to attack
I stopped here.

Because it does matter. Quite fucking obviously.

Interesting thread as per.

Can I just add that when we approach the game and play like we did on Saturday I can't think of one central defender in the world I'd rather have than Daniel Agger.

Away from home with one foot on the break against the likes of Stoke he may not be the best choice outthere but in these games he's one of a rare kind.

Can anyone name me a defender that would make us looker better from the back when we're dictating play? I dare you.

Oh and Torres is the best striker in the world.

EDIT

I've just read an interview with Agger today where he's quoted saying something along the line of; I can't remember the last time I felt a 100 pct fit. I'm improving but I'm not there yet.

Agger played really well yesterday KHL.
It's been a while though since he's looked that good but you could probably say the same about most of our players (Reina and Masher aside).

It annoys me that he's still not there though in terms of matchfitness and general shape. When he's at a 100 pct it's obvious he'll have a great positive effect on our performance on a more regular basis. We need that.

We do and for the record I like Agger he's got lots of talent. Unlike that other Danish clodhopper Bentdner. 😀

Haha...

He's like the footballing equivalent to Bambi.

But he's still going to be an awesome top-class forward.

I know you know I know it. You'll know it soon enough too.

You know that I know that you secretly know what I know. He'll never be top class.

I wasn't really making that comparison, just noting that Fergie likes to play two holding midfielders quite a lot too mate.

Hmmm, to me it was the same 4-4-1-1 formation as always only with Kuyt playing in the Gerrard role.

Anyway, when we attack like that it nearly always becomes a back 3 of Carra, Agger and Masher. With the rest of the side attacking. It's what every other top side does though to be fair.
