Does klopp actually learn?

Theres a gazillion examples from the past 12 months to suggest he doesn't.

Aside from that:

Origi just isn't what we need. Sure he may score 10 plus league goals for newcastle or whoever but he just isn't fitting in at all.

Were missing hendo so i guess its er excusable ish but that midfield trio is just horrible to watch, sideways passes into the thousands.

Sturridge can clearly offer a threat for more than 20 minutes of the next 180. Id go as far to suggest his inclusion may be the difference between 4th and 5th.

Firmino looks shagged. Hook him and start lallana in the next game.

I'd have taken a +1 point over United at the start of the weekend. It's not great but it could well come down to that point at the end. The concerning thing is we are not playing well. Even basic passing is now us. Too many players just aren't good enough week in, week out Origi, Firmino, Wijnaldum, Coutinho. Can you bank on any of them putting in three 8/10 performances in a row? Can you fuck. Even producing one from some of them is expecting too much. For me it's obvious Sturridge just has to start now. Our chances of scoring go up about 5000% when he's on the pitch compared to Origi. Wijnaldum should be docked his wages this week. It's like playing with ten men. Not once did he do anything to threaten Southampton. Even Lucas offered more. When Lucas is more of an attacking threat, you know you've been proper shit. He scored 12 goals last year for a relegated side. Now he couldn't be arsed breaking into more of a jog. Firmino and Coutinho were too far apart all match and never combined. No idea why. Those two should be in each others pockets through, linking up with flicks and one-two's, etc. If we're going to play through the centre at least give yourself a chance.

None of that fills me with confidence for our remaining fixtures. West Ham and Boro will do exactly the same as Southampton did and Klopp will produce another turgid 11, trying to play through the middle and ultimately getting nowhere. Subs will come on too late. Klopp will sit there discussing options with his assistant for 25 minutes before doing what any fan would have done 20 minutes previous. He's too busy berating officials to make the decisions to influence the match. We hadn't scored against Southampton in the three previous fixtures and we didn't try anything new. Opposition managers know exactly what we're going to do before a ball has been kicked and because of that we're just too easy to play against; pack the central areas with DM's, keep organised, keep your lines, and Liverpool will offer fuck all. The fullbacks aren't good enough to go on the outside and get a ball in the box, and even if they are Origi will be nowhere to be seen. It's a point or more guaranteed. We've been facing this all year but yet we are no more effective at breaking teams down than at the start. They all need to be sat down and shown a tape of how City destroyed Palace yesterday.

We need to improve massively next week because that was nowhere near good enough.

I dont think showing them a tape of city would do anything , they have a far superior squad .

In fact, on paper were over achieving given how bang average our squad is.

We are clearly running on embers and have been for a few weeks now, Milner was fucking gash today, truly awful, Origi was even worse, conversely I thought Lucas was decent, and Matip had a good game too. The Arsenal result was a good one for us, I think I'd have slightly preferred a draw, but there isn't much in it. We have two completely winnable games coming up, but we're going to struggle, we're so burnt out it's ridiculous, thankfully I think we only need another win to take the fourth spot, no way do Arsenal win all five of their remaining games, and you'd think a United team still having to face Spurs and clearly concentrating on Europe would have some trouble too. There's some massive problems in this team, a complete lack of depth, a lack of a dominating midfield presence, and absolutely no game winner when Mane is out and Coutinho is hiding, we need a big summer for sure, but for now let's just hobble over that fucking finish line.

Pretty much and yet people are still surprised on here that we draw against the likes of Southampton.

I don't think people are surprised at all, I just think that people are sick of losing/dropping points to teams like Southampton. I don't really buy the squad thing as any excuse and that we should accept that that's where we are. We spent relatively big in the Summer, people can talk about net spend, blah blah, but we whacked nearly £60m on two Premiership players and we got lucky with the contract Matip had, if we're bang average then we can hardly bemoan transfers and squad depth, it's exactly our own fault we've struggled. That starts with previous years spending and ends with last Summers transfers and Klopp's tactics and shortcomings. We spent money and we have a relatively good team that we should have been built on with more than the returns that we've had from Klavan, Karius, Wijnaldum and Grujic.

The teams we've lost to this season all have one thing in common, they're all teams that have struggled this season and they're exactly the sort of teams that anyone with remote hopes of CL football, SHOULD be beating. That includes your Southampton's at home. People aren't surprised, we're just sick of the same old shite. Squad depth is neither here nor there, essentially we were only missing Mane today and once again we didn't have enough with what we had. Three of Klopp's other signings can't get a look in and he continues to sit there for 60-70 minutes before deciding on the fucking obvious.

Missed the entire first half so I can't really say much except that I thought we looked good in the 2nd half and we had chances to win it. Problem is, we still have about zero threat from midfield it seems. Like I said in the pre match thread, we didn't need Lucas today, despite him being involved in the pen situation.
Getting an attacking midfielder and a defensive midfielder this summer has to be a priority for Klopp. I just don't see how we will ever cut it with this bunch. Oh yeah, forgot about Mané but we have no other option except Lallana who doesn't carry the same threat. Squad needs a revamp.
With all this said, I can't see how we'll beat West Ham away.

Klopp, once again is annoyingly persistent with the whole 'let the players have 25 minutes after HT to get it right before making changes thing'

It's odd, cos he's proven himself time & again capable to masterminding turnarounds at half time with changes of personnel, but fails to do so by making changes in normal play.

I don't know whether it's down to him not believe the players we have can successfully adjust without it being explained to them, or for some other reason.

Whatever it is though, it's fucking annoying.

Players look absolutely dead on their feet. I know we've had injuries to key players but this is like a totally different Liverpool side to the one we seen in the first half of the season. So flat, so lifeless. Yuck. Let's just hope we can bundle over the line and end the season on a positive note

60m isn't a lot in today's market. City and United are happy to spend that on one player.

We do have a weak squad compared to the others in the top 6, but right now our league campaign is better than United and Arsenal's. Who on here thinks we SHOULD be finishing higher than Chelsea, Spurs, City, United or Arsenal?

We had a relatively good team when Klopp arrived? What utter nonsense... Rodgers lost his job because of how poorly he and the transfer committee had bought. It's a massive job to get the squad where want it.

If we end up top 4 this season, we've overachieved.

Klopp's had one full season and this is the best league campaign since we came second under Rodgers. Yet people are acting to results like today's like we should be challenging for the league or something.

This. Given our improvement this season, I'm surprised at some of the comments.

I don't get it.

We're right in the mix for a top 4. Don't know what others were expecting but I didn't expect us to be near it.

Starting the season with James Milner as our left back said to me it would be another transition season. Not a slight on him btw as I think he's really done a good job out there until recently.

I've said before that the way we started the season has coloured everyone's opinion of it, including my own.

Were the results a lot more random across the season length I think it'd be easier to take that attitude. Also, if it wasn't always the 'lesser sides' who seemed to take points off us it would seem much less annoying.

No, it hasn't been when we've had a good team, but we've been dropping points to the 'lesser sides' for the past 3 seasons. It's not a new thing that only started this year.

So predictable. If this happened after payday I'd have £50 on this and I'd actually have some money.

Anyway, Puel knows how to stop Klopp.. Its gonna be real interesting to see how he goes about this tactically v West Ham. If he doesn't, then we'll lose and that's hello Europa League. Meh. I'm not optimistic

I'm going out on a tactical limb here, but how about we stop whatever is left of our gegenpressing, sit back and invite attacks from these crappy teams and hit THEM on the break. Seriously, every time I see 10 defending players packed into a 30 yard area and us passing around the perimeter I want to cry.

When we stop all of their attacks before they get out of their half, they never start moving forward and spreading out. LET THEM OUT!

Its the predictableness of it all that is getting everyone down. We are stumbling like a drunken first week fresher towards the finish line.

We had a few counter attacks against Southampton and they all broke down because we lack pace and didn't (or couldn't) break with the numbers and energy levels we did earlier in the season.

But even then teams know now not to leave too much space in behind after the first half of the season. They're careful.

I think we're just gonna have to try and ride the season out as is. Hopefully Sturridge can come through for us and give us some of the quality we've been lacking up front.

Finish top 4 and it's been a successful season no matter how we got there.

Horrible game. More inaction from that genius Klopp.
We really do need 3 or 4 blockbusters who can come straight into the first 11 and drag some of the others along; too many coasting. Will be an interesting summer alright.
We'll be gutted if we don't get top 4, it's been handed to us on a plate about 40 times and we've still not grasped it. I think we might have to win our last 2 games and, tbh, I wouldn't put money on that.
Couple more things -
- I don't agree that certain teams or players save their best for us; it just looks that way because we labour so much. And, why would they? It's not like we're a massive scalp or anything.
- Why are we so tired? Is it the way we play? If so, doesn't bode well for a season including Euro Footy and, hopefully, much improved Cup runs.

Our full backs offer nothing going forward, and it seriously inhibits our attacking play. It's so important for your full-backs to get beyond the penalty box with the ball to stretch teams, and move the midfield 20 yards closer to the goal. Clyne is very tidy, but he lacks ability to press into the remaining 25 yards, and Milner is about as ineffective an attacking full back as there is in the league.

Given the rest of our side all fancies themselves as a number 10, the need for our full backs to get far forward is imperative. We get nothing from them.

Lucas (4) The usual club-footed display, when his lack of movement and quality on the ball makes his continual presence at the club an ongoing fucking disgrace.

Someone should print this out in big bold letters and staple it to Lucarse's forehead.
4 my arse.

Can should have come off, not Lucas. He was the only at least attempting the probing balls and spreading the play. Remember a few quality diagonal balls over the top to the fullbacks (who did fuck all with them)
