Well only deeper when the opposition have the ball. This is part of the quandry with our current midfielders; against the likes of City away from home - they're perfect. Energetic, sharp, can nick possession, run all day, and can break or release Frimino, Mance, Coutinho, etc.
But at home to Burnely and the equiavlent, none of them are good enough in possession to alter the shape of a game. They can't create pockets of space, they can't raise or slow the tempo, they aren't dilligent enough to wait for or manufacture an opening. They just ping it from side to side nauseatingly.
Wijnaldum, Hendo and Can are all too similar unfortunately.
