For me KHL, it's not important who out of Agger and Skrtel that leaves. As they're pretty close interms of ability. Agger isn't that good in the air though, and that is a concern. He was much better regarding starting attacks, but seems to have backtracked for the last year. Those excellent long balls and creative runs seems a very distant memory.

We desperatly need a big hard core centreback that wins everything and is a commanding presence.
Someone like Hangeland or Samba. At the moment, we look without bite at all, execpt the stupid fouls Lucas gives away.

Same.

It was surreal.

You must've been VERY drunk yesterday mate.

Nothing really parted them in terms of poorness at least untill Lucas was subbed and then Poulsen improved his game slightly.

I agree that we need someone big and strong in the air.

I disagree that Agger and Skrtel are close in terms of ability and that Agger should be any worse in the air that Skrtel. That's quite simply wrong. And as the former is FAR better at bringing the ball out of defense as well as positioning himself it's obvious who we should keep.

I don't think Skrtel crossed the halfwayline once against Brum as he's always hitting the sideways pass or short forward pass which isn't helping us one bit when the other half of the CB-partnership is Carra who's never doing anything but exactly that too.

Having Carra, Skrtel, Poulsen and Lucas starting at the same time we're asking for troubles and mediocrity.

At least I'll give you that KHL, Poulsen looked much better next to Gerrard, but our enitre team got lifted by the sub and with the introduction of Meireles.

It wasn't difficult either.
Meireles: Pass and move, pass and move.
Lucas and Poulsen: Pass and stand absolutly still, pass backwards and don't move.

Shame it took 75 mins before it happened.

Ok. But he did.

We were in danger of looking half decent when the portugeezer came on, the pace improved. Whether that was because there were only ten mins to go and they realised they hadn't had an attack yet or it was because of the personnel or both I dunno.

Players that struggle to improve weak teams are called 'weak players'.
It was well-known that Michael Laudrup had little to no positive effect when playhing for the rather poor Danish Nationalteam at the time because the players around him wasn't up to the standards at Barcelona. He struggled to get his game going at Int. level whilst he was playing like a world beater at Barca. Whereas his little brother Brian took both Denmark and Rangers to a new level as he could make a poor to decent team much better.

The comparison between these players and Poulsen stops there of course but the fact of the matter is that some players are better alongside one type of players whereas other thrive whatever dross beeing placed around them.

Untill proven otherwise I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that he'll at least plays to his own standards when Roy's getting closer to the best XI we've got. If he does he can be an asset. If not then it'll be a long kiss godnight for his Liverpool career.
Oh no you don't, Kris..

You nailed your colours to the mast and said Poulsen was a good player.

If he is you'll be vindicated.

If he isn't, you can take your medicine and admit being wrong.

There's no point now talking about how he's secretly very good but it's just because he's playing with shit players.

That's a cop-out, ;D

It's like trying to imagine how good Torres would be if he had Messi with him ;D

with poulsen and lucas I think it's more a case of;

'oh look, I have the ball and there is a liverpool player in space unmarked, I'd better give him the ball, but it may be a trick, let me hold on to it a bit longer to see if that player is 'really' unmarked, yep, he's unmarked, let me control the ball first, look around to see if the coast is clear, okay, now I can pass it...hey, there is someone marking that player now, he wasn't there a minute ago...'

Hard to say.

I just hope it wasn't down to the players suddenly wanting to play good as soon Lucas left the field. Would be kind of harsh on the young man.

For everyones sake I just really hope Roy starts to bench him more often.

Haha you seem very eager to make me look like a fool with regards to Poulsen. I can often manage that all by meself but fair enough, help's always appreciated.

No matter how his Liverpool career turns out no-one will suddenly say that Poulsen was always a bad player because he wasn't. He may or may not prove to be a bargain at £6M but the fact reamains he needs to play in a ball-controlling team with options right, left and center.

That's the way Denmark's always addressing their game and that's the way Sevilla and Juve are addressing it too. In control. He's not good if he's going to run after opponents all game but he can be an influence in a ball-possessing team. That's why I believe there's a good chance for him to be a success at Liverpool.

PS Posters on here where queing up (even the Norwegian ones) to have a go at me because I suggested one Brede Hangeland from FC Copenhagen, and this so after only his first 4-5 games in England for Fulham. Look how that turned out. Whitey. Amongst others. Footie fans are fickle as fuck.

I cannot handle watching another match with these two massive whoppers playing in the team, just agony, and why the fuck did it take Roy 76 mins to figure out we were shite!?

Not really, I'd much rather you be proven right, Kris..you being wrong would just be yet another transfer mistake by the manager and after years of that we really are at the end of our tether.

Just thought after seeing how emphatic you were about Poulsen, you'd do better than simply trying to fob off his crapness on the quality of players around him.

There's no need to bring up Hangelaand, your record in noting players is still very good...it wouldnt hurt to raise your hand if you have a stinker though 8)

just in case they play together on sunday,i look forward to being absolutely smashed before kick off

While I'm pretty certain that Toolson isn't fit to lace Hamann's boots, I'm sure we'll never see the 'best' of him playing next to another backassward gaytard like Lucas.

I'll raise my hand alright especially if he plays as poorly throughout as he has started.

I did not however suggest Poulsen as you probably know I've only defended the signing as soon as it became obvious we were in for him. Because he's a GOOD player and one I could see why we'd want.

*I only mentioned Hangeland to underline how premature criticism can look if you're basing your judgment only on a few games.

I suppose the very best thing you can say about Crapsen is that he is a really, really shit version of Hamann, in terms of playing style

Hooray!

in what way? didi passing was pretty crisp and he positioned himself superbly despite his lack of pace. I don't think poosen (classic) even merits being called a shit version of hamman.

hey bren, would you take momo back now? 😉
Gents, lets not get fucking hysterical - Poulsen hasnt been very good but MAY improve, Sissoko WAS (fact!) a fucking disaster area.

However, I'd even take (anti-hero of the board) Hayden Mullins over Lucas

At least Brains could get about the pitch at speed and kick people - the Cunt Twins can't even do that

Although I did enjoy seeing Lucarse getting twatted

I'd take Momo any day. He was athletic and tended to destroy play off the ball and on it.

I'd take that over the do-nothing machine of Lucas and Poulsen.

I'd have momo back over those two, no fucking question about it. think hard about liverpool midfields, has there been a worst midfield than lucas and poulsen in liverpool's history? I say with no exaggeration I think poulsen and lucas are the worst CM in the entire league and I include the newly promoted teams.

One has only played 4 games for us however and is a good footballer no matter how poor he looked today. At the very least could you give him ten games to disqualify himself?

*Not that it matters but he's probably alraedy played more games than Aqua managed.
I think there's some promise there, some of his passing can be very good, maybe his shortcomings won't be so magnified once he plays alongside someone with some actual ability rather than Lucas. It was the same last season with Masher, the onus was on him to do something in an attacking sense and I guess it led to alot of criticism too.
Was about to right something very similar before I re-read the thread.

Im clinging to the fact that Lucas would conspire to make any midfield partner look utterly utterly shit, regardless of their ability.

Just when we were telling ourselves that he couldnt get any worse, and had lowered our expectations to the level of "oh, he wasn't so bad today, he managed to put his boots on the correct feet, not to cry in public, stand upright for over 50% of the match, and mouth breathe whilst jogging" he suddenly goes that extra step and becomes a total fucking shithouse - actively making himself unavailable by taking positions behind opposition midfielders, delaying-delaying-delaying-delaying the pass, and then..... sliding it straight to the opposition centre back.

Fuck. me.
He's been doing that since he got here. I thought it was just him being clueless at first but I do actually think he tries to avoid the ball at times.
