Whether Evra is a prick or not is pretty irrelevant, Liverpool fans boo'd him over Suarez getting banned for racially abusing him, it is a dreadful look.
He had to have been absolutely certain of what Firmino said, if he was being sincere, to have made the decision to potentially ruin his fellow professional’s life. How he heard ‘fucking n****r’ from Portuguese sperted out in anger, and was certain that it was what he heard, and how you balance your idea of probability towards Holgate’s innocence is beyond me. Again, not one individual around them, including he referee who was between them, misheard anything. We all saw what was said before the referee was between them through replays, and it would be impossible for those words to have been interpreted as what Holgate claimed.
And the FA are absolute cunts coming out with their statement.

I’ve misheard a lot of things. I tend to get words confused with those that sound alike though.
You may well confuse “Ce ta Louco? Ce ta Louco? Filho da puta” with “You fucking n****r”. To each his own.
It's a bit like my moan about how people are so used to watching slo-mo replays of fouls/dives they unthinkingly project about two minutes of premeditated deviousness on to the action. Even though the Holgate/Firmino exchange was over in a second, people watched the slo-mo replays and developed a whole narrative, good or bad, as to what each man was supposedly thinking/scheming. Personally I think it was all pretty instinctive. I do have a problem with Holgate's subsequent refusal to even consider that he might have misheard or misunderstood Firmino - we can all react wrongly in the heat of the moment, but any sensible person ought to be sufficiently self-critical to question their own angry response - but crowds should certainly shut up now.
As for the homophobic tweets, I think all of this retrospective nonsense needs to stop. The FA should draw a line now and say, 'Okay, we're not going to react to what someone said when they were fifteen or whatever. But from this point on, any racist or homophobic tweets will be punished. You've been warned'.

If it was so cut and dried and obvious, even to the informed layman such as yourself, why did the FA employ Portuguese and Brazilian linguistic experts to examine the footage? Why bring in lip-readers?
There was also footage that nobody else has seen, from lots of different angles, including when parts of the exchange were obscured from the Broadcast pictures.
There was no case to answer, we know that, but they had to ensure there wasn't, rather than just what some twats from the internet think.
I don't know if we should give them credit for their 7 week long and thouroughly investigation, or they have been spending too much time on something which seemed quite clear from the go. But when they actually spent all this time and all this effort it is fucking lame to come with a statement where they leave doubts about his inosence hanging in the air....
With all that video analysis, they would easily have transcribed every single word he did say - yet they omitted this objective evidence totally from their finding to make Firmino look possibly racist. There was no analysis which could read Holgates mind for them - yet they speculated on this to make a finding that he was genuine. That should tell you everything you need to know.
@Insignificance Dismissing a racism charge case in which the accusor isnt stepping down overnight doesnt sound too smart, slow-burning this shit into the past was a smart move by the FA - not dealing with Holgate battering Bobby aside, dont think they handled this badly at all *

The FA brought in Brazilian Portuguese experts to check Firmino's account of what he said, which is understandable as far as it goes. What isn't fair enough is that, having established what FIrmino said, they then didn't ask the question which they ought to have asked themselves and to which juniormember rightly alludes, namely: how plausible is it that Holgate could genuinely have misheard what Firmino said in the way he claimed? Answer: it wouldn't have fit their preordained agenda because it might have forced them to find that Holgate's a lying sh!tehawk and to take action against him on that basis. They were dead set on giving Holgate a free pass right from the off - witness also (a) their non-action against his original foul and (b) the stuff in their statement about total belief in his good faith, an endorsement they conspicuously denied to Firmino. The whole thing was a disreputable sham.

12 people who were interviewed, and who were as close to Firmino as Holgate was, heard nothing that sounded like "fucking n****r". Surely in seven weeks Holgate could have said that he thought he heard it but could have been mistaken, instead of waiting for the FA to make a decision.
And incidentally, who were the twelve? Three Liverpool players were mentioned as well as the ref and 4th official. Does that mean seven Everton players, and none of them stood up for their teammate?

You’re right, I’m not smart enough to land a job at The Lying Rag, but considering opinion seems to be split, I don’t think it’s too crazy an idea. Do you? Can you not see it at all? We’re trying to figure out what The Truth is, and evidence seems to suggest, as you mention yourself, with multiple linguists examining what was said with more camera angles, that Firmino never said anything racist.
And again, how does Holgate say with certainty that Firmino said ‘you fucking nigger’ when the guy was talking in Portuguese? But whatever. Let the ‘I’m really balanced in my views and dead clever’ approach win.
I wouldn't be surprised if some jobsworth put the file at the start of week one in a desk drawer, then at the end of week seven he took it back out again and typed up a judgement. That's usually the impression I get when they complete their 'exhaustive' investigations.
I agree that taking their time and incestigate it is fine. But after spending time and resources on lingustic experts and witnesses and other cameras and god knows what, they could have come out with something more favourable for Firmino. If there was a hint of racism in the situation they would have found it after that investigation.
Jack, Firmino's words were "Ce ta louco (repeated), filho da puta". A reputable investigation of the incident would have asked itself whether, on the balance of probabilities, it believed that someone could mishear that as "F*****g n*****r". I suggest the answer to that is obvious, which is why the FA steered well clear.
