I agree with your assessment to a point, but it fails to take into account Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Now I've not watched any of their games in preseason (why would I?), but I would have thought that Henrikh would take the number 10 position leaving Pogba to play a similar role to the one he played for France at the Euros. Granted, he may get some game time at No.10 but I'd expect Pogba to play a more withdrawn role the majority of this season.

I could also be utterly and totally wrong!

Mikitargaryan will play as one of the 'wide' positions in the 3 behind the striker.

If he does, he will be much less effective than in his last season in Dortmund. He is not a winger, not enough speed to beat players consistently; he needs to play with the ball, touch the ball all the time, to control the game. I can see him only in the #10 position in Mourinho's system; possibly also as one of the 3 CMs in 4-3-3, if the other two are playing in a more disciplined way.

If Mourinho plays him on the wing, it will be putting square pegs into round holes. No advisable with a player in his prime who can be a potential leader.

Rather you than me, Ahmed. 😉

Judge not joking i think i have made myself clear on thi forum. The players in world football are really the most rubbish ones i have seen since watching footy. Average at best and at this rate the likes of Messi and Ronaldo wu

He had his best season last year while playing mostly from wide positions.

Let's hope so. I think there are potentially a few players who you could say that about if Mourinho plays the side that's been trailed as his first choice in a 4-2-3-1. You can make the argument that Pogba won't fit in a midfield 2, thingy from Dortmund won't play as well wide and Rooney isn't good enough at this level at all.

You tell 'em, Ged lad, you tell 'em!!!

Former Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier believes Paul Pogba's world-record transfer to Manchester United proves the Old Trafford giants are no longer a football club, but a factory.

"Manchester United generate impressive income. €120m over five years? That's an instalment of €25m per season - it's reasonable when you have a budget of over €500m.

"Because Man U carry out purchases or sales every transfer window of around €50m. It's no longer a club. It's a factory."

If he sticks with Rooney in almost any formation we won't be competitive. Possibly enough to get top 4 if we are lucky but no more than that.

I can see how the new players can work without Rooney in either 4231 or 433.

The one thing about Mourinho is he is ruthless and if Rooney isn't playing well I can see him being dropped.

Did you actually watch him play? He nominally started on the right, but Dortmund under Tuchel played a possession-based game where players would constantly exchange positions and everybody would get plenty of touches of the ball, kind of like how LFC played under Rodgers only with better players. So even though in most tactical schemes Mkhitaryan's position was listed as RW, his role was very much of a #10.

Moutinho's style and tactics are very different. A winger is a winger and a #10 (Sneijder, Isco, Oscar, Fabregas) is a #10 - very different roles. As far as I understand Mour's tactics and Mkhitaryan's qualities as a player (and I know this player from way back when he played for Shakhtar, which is my childhood team), I can only see him being effective in the latter role.

I do love reading platitudes about manc employees. It really brightens up the morning, and saves me visiting redcafe for that invigorating fix from The Theatre of Dreams.

God Maureen is still the most pathetic, tedious, odious little shitbag. Every time he tries this bullshit the journos should hold up a picture of Ranieri. I really don't think I can be arsed with this ridiculous pantomine and pissing contest again this season.

Sorry but I'm with Red Astaire on this. I don't like ManU any more than any other LFC fan does, but I'll chat with any decent fans of any other team and Chastened seems to me to be in that bracket.

Obviously one doesn't want to be rude or inhospitable. But, purely personally, I don't have ANY interest in discussing what the mancs are doing, except in an entirely derogatory way, and I have no comprehension whatsoever as to why you'd want to go not just onto another club's forum, but onto the forum of your bitterest rivals, to chat about anything, let alone the minutiae of mancdom. Surely life's way too short for that kind of perversity!

Bravo!
