West Brom should have won that. Blatant pen from Young not given, & Utd were under the cosh for the last twenty minutes too.

The De Bruyne comparison to Gerrard is one that I found myself making during the City/Spurs match on Saturday too.
It's a kind of fearless energy that drives them forward when others around them want to sit back and let someone else take the bull by the horns. De Bruyne's goal was also amazingly Gerrad-like. God it makes me miss the days we had a good midfield.

Keith Haccket has some nice ideas about consistency!

He believes that Dejan Lovren's was a foul on Calvert-Lewin but so was Young on MacLean, Rose on Mangala (same referee who gave Everton the penalty.) Pogba's tackle on Bellerin was red a card but so ought o have been Alli and Kane's against City.

Lennon dives and Everton are awarded a penalty. Rooney misses but Calver- Lewin scores from the rebound.
1:1.

It seems like the refs are intent on giving Everton and Allardyce every 50-50 decision!?

I mean, all these penalties fall under the "soft, but i've seen them given" argument.. but how many more of them are they going to get before one is actually turned away or given against them.

All of their players seem to have a problem with their balance. They don't even attempt to stay on their feet.

There is gotta be some bias towards domestic "stars" like Rooney or even English managers like Fat Sam. They seem to get the benefit of the doubt more often than not, both in winning penalties/free-kicks for their team and not being given ones against them – just yesterday when Lovren got penalized for a totally clean side-tackle against a Bournemouth player I wondered if the same decision would be made if it were John Terry, Cahill or Stones. Judging from his reaction, Lovren was probably thinking the same.

Behave

I actually think that refs only a handful of years ago did think that Johnny Foreigner was more prone to diving and based their decisions accordingly. They know that 90% of players of any nationality are cheating fucks now, and plenty of British players have had reputations for cheating, like Ashley Young. No doubt he ended up being robbed of a few actual penos in the end because refs knew he had a predilection for diving and waived away anything he was involved with.

I've been thinking this for a while.

Admittedly, we got the benefits of some generous decisions when we had Carragher and Gerrard. I guess that's the English premium people talk about, when you're trying to buy these players.

Yep. Although there were a few foreign players who somehow managed to ingratiate themselves with the refs just enough to be judged by a milder standard. Lucas comes to mind.
