Pep's gone mad

Probably the only one I can think of. None of the major Barcelona players made their debut under him. I didn’t follow Bayern enough to know if he did there.

Yeah, he brought Busquets and Pedro with him to the first team. He was managing Barca's B team before getting the big job.

Technically, Pique got his debut at United, but it was Pep who got him back to Barca and created the Pique Puyol defensive partnership. I don't like Pep, and I don't think his style will work unless he has access to infinite sums of money or high-quality talent. I also find his consistent failures in Europe, both at Bayern and City, funny.

But at the same time, we should not be downplaying his role in the growth of Barcelona. He had access to all-time great talents, but I don't think any other manager would have put the pieces together like he did. Yes, other managers did win the treble at Barcelona but that was by following the template he setup.

He's not the manager you needto save Man United from obscurity, but he's exactly the manager you want when you have a set of world class players and you need to mould them into an all conquering juggernaut.

It sounds easy but many have been in his position and failed.

Might have chucked in some racism there as well, for shits and giggles.

Somewhere over the rainbow bridge, Ross is making a note of it to bring it up in 2028 to justify him acting like a cunt… again.

That’s probably true, actually. Kane is a much better passer of the ball. Haaland will be a plan B in many games under Guardiola, I think.
I was thinking about this topic last week when it was announced. Worth a thread perhaps. How is he going to improve them? Yes he's a better striker than anyone they have now but he's not been playing against PL defences, we've seen players coming in from the BL take time to adapt and some flop as well as others being a success. Few have taken the league by storm though.

The other interesting factor is that sure he can finish but when he's playing their ratio of chances will drop with one less creative player on the pitch. If it were Kane (he's a lot older so if you are going to pay that money then I see why they'd go for Haaland) then that may not have been the case.

Yet seemingly not one player close to making it to the first team. Player or manager issue? 🙄

It's not quite as simple, really. I remember our youth teams winning a load of trophies 20 years or so ago, but none of them were first team material. Hard to judge individual players via team performances at youth level.

Pep claimed Stones and Walker were out for the season. Both back in training yesterday.

Sure, I understand but Pep doesn't seem to be interested in blooding in young players during his tenure at Man City. That's one area Chelsea's youth academy is excelling at - even if they don't make it at the club, they manage to fetch decent amount of money.

Through showing off their talents with loan moves. Not necessarily with their managers playing their youth in the first team.

They do get their loan arrangements work quite well - and bringing back the successful ones (James at Wigan, Mount at Derby, Abraham at Villa). Those that left are thriving too (Lamptey, Tomori, Guehi to name a few). Man City's loans have been those meant more to help their sister clubs. >_<"

My brother in law is an old etonian and I had to listen through his best man recounting how he went to china with nothing but two pennies and built a business empire.

He had millions of dollars in seed capital. I had to make it through that speech, so I'm afraid I can't handle punk rock pep fighting the establishment with his sling and a loan.
