Shay Given is a decent keeper, but overrated.
I tend to agree with you - he is a great shot-stopper but not so good in other aspects including his kicking. I think that explains why Joe Hart has the first-team place.
Those other aspects of his game haven't ever proven much of an obstacle in practice though. I'm not sure I agree that he is overrated, and I suspect Hart's ascendancy has got at least as much to do with the fact that Given's much nearer the end of his career, so they may as well try and cash in on him, which I reckon was always the eventual plan when Hart got the nod. They won't want to sell him to a competitor, which IMO means the Arse won't get him. It'll be interesting to see whether they're willing to sell to us if Pepe does leave and we make a bid.

Who's the lad at Atletico?

De gae.

As many have said already, if Pepe goes our list of targets should include, Alder, Neuer, Lloris and De Gae. I wouldn't mind Given as a stop gap but the whole drama of would City sell etc.

If Pepe goes and I'm inclined to think that he may, I'd have a go at Neuer.

A big dominant keeper would be brilliant.

Great timing Pepe. Not ruling out a move to the fucking Scum, right before we play them. Bellend. Don't want to be here, then fuck off.
Yeah what a joke. He wants the club to show ambition in signings, and they really do have to if they are to hold onto players, but WTF, do you think Fergie would sell one of his key players to us? Since when did we become weak kneed sheep that do whatever our players want. No way. Sell him to Serie A, but not to anyone in the PL. It sends COMPLETELY the wrong message.

But in truth, it's just another indicator of how we let the squad get weaker and weaker under Hicks and Gillette with no investment and investment in the wrong players (Keane, Acquilani).

this is getting the Diouf thread from a while back. Where's Avvy with his photoshop skills ?

Those comments about scum and arse looking for keepers are from 3/4 weeks ago arnt they. When he gave a Spanish radio interview with Torres. Calm the fuck down lads, they are only being rehashed because we have a big game tomorrow.

he's a fucking gobshite. I'd sell him to madrid so he never plays again. He's just a poor mans jaskerlainen anyway

I don't think he's a goalkeeper that will age particularly well so if we have to sell him and get a decent fee it might not be the end of the world

I still can't quite believe how much of a twat he was for west hams third.
That was pathetic, but everyone needs to remember these comments were made when Pepe was away in Spain, when players turn into cunts after coming into contact with those Barca wabs.

This interview is from the same time, but it was obviously a one-on-one interview he gave to Sid Lowe of the Guardian, because these are new quotes. They held it over to get maximum impact of course, but Reina knew perfectly well what the effect of that statement would be. Is he the first LFC player in living memory NOT to rule out a move to United? I can't believe he's getting such an easy ride on here.

Where does he mention Utd? If he goes to Utd then we burn effigies. We never should have allowed him to have a release clause.

I think we need to stand back a little from this.
It seems to me , this is a piece designed to draw the reaction it has, and to imply what he the writer wants, with all this emphasis on buts.
In truth Pepe has said very little, and no more than we knew some weeks ago, and in saying little people are drawing conclusions.
He has said never say never, which is fair enough.
He has also said in the interview some very positive things as to why he signed an extension.

I bet another journalist making a slant on Pepe is staying could do a good job of that perspective, Sid Lowe needs to sell stories, from what I can gather he is a freelance who has an arrangement with the Grauniad, oh and TalkSport.

The timing is nothing to do with Pepe, as has been pointed out , it was when he was in Spain, the timing is to do with the publication, they are out to sell papers.

regards

I don't think 'never say never' IS fair enough when the question (to a Liverpool player) is 'Would you consider signing for Manchester Utd?'
