Actually, Xabi won 2 trophies in 5 years.
Pepe's won 1 in 5 years.
So the point of him joining later isn't that relevant. In any case, the critical point is that Xabi was an integral part of why we won those two trophies, and also an integral part of why we had our best ever run in the league in the last decade. Great though Pepe is, he's not as integral to the side as Xabi was - more to the fact that the centre of the park is always likely to be a more critical position than the goalkeeper's position.
You're probably right about Pepe being sold for triple his value though. As I said, this comparison would be interesting to make 5 years down the line (provided Pepe stays). Right now, it's hard to argue against Xabi.

You are right for his on the field skills and his position, but for me and my opinion (which is obviously irrelevant) it's pepe.
i just enjoy pepe for his leadership skills. He screams at the defence like a captain. We need players like that all over the pitch. xabi seemed to quiet and hapy to get on with his role. Which i respect as he was obviously good at it. I just think attitude and character and it's importance on and off the pitch can never be overstated

I always thought Xabi had a quiet leadership about him. So many games where he stepped up in Gerrard's absence and ran the show - the derby, Juventus are games I can think off the top of my head. Also, the CL final, what I loved about him is that he actually baby sat Traore and picked the ball of his feet. That's a sort of leadership that often goes unnoticed, and very wrongly so IMO.
