A shame Redstar's tactical insight doesn't translate to the real world (i.e. xpert11).

Haha, fraid not mate, I swore off that after it was part of a giant hoax convincing me that Stevie would be back in the team for the opening day of the season, that was a crushing blow

that was a really great read redstar. do you think the style barca currently utilise could be transfered elsewhere or are they only able to do what they do because they have supremely talented individuals?

I think its the system thats successful rather than the individuals but it could be replicated with other players, there are certain factors in Spain that play into Barcas favour like the uncompetitive nature of the league and the academy system they have that has produced players for a specific system of attacking passing football for the last 30 years. They have some amazingly talented players obviously and any system is dependent on the personnel involved but Im not sure I completely buy into the train of thought that 'it wouldnt work if Messi or Xavi was injured', of course any team would miss a player of that quality but they also have a back 4 thats regularly contains midfielders so its not like they are a world XI or anything like it. There is no reason it couldn't be replicated by another club in another country, possession is the key factor so having a squad full of players who are comfortable on the ball would be a good start, that would be hardest part.

I think it would take time, it couldnt be done overnight but most similarly successful systems are copied by imitators. As I said I think Fergie is shaping his team on the Barca model all be it with his own way but he has clearly seen ideas in it that he wants to replicate. There are certain factors that wouldn't require a list of international superstars to make them work, Id love to see us play a high line and squeeze the opposition into their own half where you can easily press them the way Barca do, you dont need a team of Lionel Messis to implement it, and the generally poor standard of passing in the premiership would mean the opposition turning the ball over quite regularly. What you do with ball when you win it back is a whole other problem, thats where the gifted players come in handy

I've been an advocate of holding a high line for ages the problem is having a rock solid offside trap, also to press the opposition in their own half, front to back you need players comfortable on the ball and be able to more often than not lay the ball off with one touch.
I would love to see the barca model at anfield but I don't see it happening anytime soon, I'm just pleased pass and move has returned.

I agree the pressing is only a part of the jigsaw but probably the easiest one to replicate, Rafa had us pressing pretty far up the pitch at times to pretty good success. Unfortunately the whole pass and move system doesnt seem to be as fluid this season as it was in the second half of last year, for what reason Im not sure, trying to shoehorn signings into the first XI probably has alot to do with it. I think one of Kennys biggest problems is he doesnt seem to have settled on a 'style' yet, some weeks we are knocking it about on the deck looking tidy and the next week we are hoofing it long hoping for the best without any reason

That's because i think Kenny's style of play depends on the players he play. Carroll upfront, hoof ball. Suarez and Kuyt up front, pass and move.
