Where do they come from?

Two goals the past week, this week's being a fantastic touch and turn winning goal against Almeira. I had never heard of this kid before this year, and now he's winning Cups (albeit the Super Cup) and becoming a regular part of Guardiola's rotation system.

The next one for Barca? Either Tiago (Silva) or Gai (Assulin) ...

I can't see it though..

Not when Messi, Iniesta are still at the club..

Watched that Barca game earlier. A few thoughts:

I think they lack the thrust and pace Eto'o gave them. Ibra's obviously great replacement, but they realied on Eto'o to stretch sides and get in behind. Everything they do now is in fornt of you.
I fucking love Busquets. He's a joy to watch.
That Layton Maxwell's gone onto good things since he left us.
The way Barca surround the referee everytime one of their players is even breathed upon is irritating as fuck. Get on with it.
At times they only bother playing with Puyol as a defender. Marquez roams wherever he likes.
And yes LTW, lovely goal from Pedro. But how did he have the time to take that touch and turn in the box. Gash defending.

Great to see a club like Barcelona giving their youth products a chance in the side.

Real Madrid on the other hand......

Given the money they've spent this summer, did you really expect any different?

They're just not that sort of club.

Neither are we, really.

Pedro is a good little player that is making the most of his time in the first team, but it's worth pointing out that he's actually 22.

Don't like Marquez.

Really? I thought he was a kid still ... Btw Keni, you saw that Assulin made the champions league squad last week? The problem is Guardiola rates him far far higher than the Barcelona B coach does!

Ryan - you don't give him enough credit for that finish ... No keeper in the world saves that imo.

To be honest, I know very little about Assulin (FM aside). I didn't catch any of the CL so missed that. Jeffren is another 'not so young' attacker that has been making the bench for league games, so presumably Assulin will have to get past him in the pecking order as well.

Ryan was talking about the defending rather than the finish itself, which was stupendous.

I haven't seen Barca yet this year, but if one could possibly have a criticism of them in the past few years, it has been that they tended to play through teams, trying to pass the ball into the net, rather than taking a more direct outlet.

Assulin made his debut last night in the cup, started and play 50+ minutes. Didn't watch it obviously but the media in Israel is reporting he played well and held his own.

Like Arsenal with trophies then yeah??

Nah, this season with players like Ibra and Keita (in great form), they're more than capable of going direct. Posted at the weekend that they seem to score from a lot of headers.

what happened to the wonder kid spurs bought from barca? I think barca done spurs like a kipper.
Dos Santos?

He needed more time in La Liga before attempting to make it over here, and his attitude was appalling apparently, they loaned him out to a championship side last I heard.

Busquets is utter class Ryan!
Honest question. If Busquets is as good as most people make him out to be and Keita is also there. Why the hell are they in for Mascher.

Posshibilities for esqawd?

I've wondered that myself to be honest and who knows, maybe their interest has cooled since the summer. That said, it's quite possible that Toure won't be there for that much longer, so that'd leave them with an open spot in the squad. Even so, it doesn't seem as though it'd be easy to find a balance, but then I thought the same when Henry joined.

I have plenty of time for a club like Barcelona.

I respect them for their commitment to youth and home-grown players.

Real Madrid on the other hand ....

Mascherano would not be a top priority signing.

They do need a better goalkeeper than Valdes though.

Could you imagine the team they could have had, had they kept Fabregas and Reina...

Btw World Soccer has a little report on the most promising players from La Masia and they are Gai Assulin, Pedro Rodriguez, Jeffren Suarez, Andreu Fontas and Marc Muniesa.
You can't really make that point here as in both cases the two players have improved and developed into world class stars because of first team football. Cesc has been a first team regular in the Premiership since 2004. IU agree that the Barce team as it is now would be greatly improved with these two players as they are now, but I think they would not be anywhere near the level they are had they stayed at Barca.

I don't quite agree in the case of Fabregas. He would've made it into the first team eventually, it would've just taken longer (see: Iniesta). Valdes on the other hand seems to have a job for life there, so Reina would've struggled.

Surely being exposed to first team football from the age of 16 has aided Fabregas though Ken. He would have been getting a run in cup games and dead rubber Champions League games but when it would come to a big game he wouldn't have been selected for Barca.

Does Iniesta not play in important games?
Yeah he does.
But would Iniesta and Fabreags both have developed to their current level had they been competeing with each other? I think that Fabregas has improved a lot by moving away from Barca than he would have had he stayed.

Fabregas is three years younger than Iniesta, who doesn't always play in central midfield anyways.

Would Fabregas have gotten his chance to become a first team regular at the age of 17? Unlikely, but he would have eventually made it through to the first team, no question. The reason he left is because he didn't want to wait like others have done.

It's impossible to say whether or not he would've become the player he is today, but the example of Iniesta, a brilliant player who only really established himself as a key first teamer in the last few years, suggests that not breaking into the starting eleven at the age of 17 isn't the end of the world at Barca.

Luckily they tied him down to a crazy bumper contract this year, I may be wrong but I remember a number of the order of 130,000 per week . So hopefully they will not be after Pepe this summer.
