The Premier League finally agreed to scrap the pre-match handshake between players, but only after it had been suggested that the QPR players applaud their bitter rivals out on to the Stamford Bridge pitch.
“They were looking for solutions, with the Premier League throwing things out there and saying at one point an alternative would be to form a guard of honour and clap Chelsea on to the pitch,” said Hughes on Friday. “I was thinking: ‘absolutely no chance of that’.”
